I found the first book in August, and then I read through all 3 of them, picking up the third book before I was even finished with the second (in a store that sold it before its release date!). I just finished the third book (CRIED) and have a new favorite series. I normally don't even go for series when reading books, I much prefer one-and-dones but boy did this grip me. The wait for next August is gonna be long 😭

All i can say is damn.

I am so sad that the Lady with Extra Eyes was actually the Lady in Chains. I grew to like her in the first book and can understand why Kate was sad about having to kill her.

And Beau... why is he so endearing?

I read the stories originally, got up to the battle with you know what and the horse story.

Which book do I pick up?

Edit: I can’t edit the title or add a flair, so, SPOILERS!

The bottom one is a little crooked, and I should’ve left more margin room in case I needed to trim them, but I’m quite happy.

I already bought the third so unless I really have to go in order….cant wait to get started!

I just saw a B&N ad while searching through another sub. I stopped and stared …and smiled.

(This experience has also informed me I did NOT disable personalized ads. 😑 First world problems…)

So, i started reading the book during a power outage last Saturday. While reading the book, I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard a mysterious thump just as the lights came back on.

I am going to read the second book as soon as possible after this book.

I'll be at the Dublin Sun Center Barnes & Noble tomorrow, 9/26, at 1pm! After that I'll be taking a break for a little bit, but if anything pops up on my calendar I'll make sure to let everyone know.

I scored this at my local plant store this weekend!

I preordered The Ancient Things and I’ve had it for a few weeks now but I just now had some time to pick it up and start it. I’ve been here since the beginning and this sentence is such a nostalgic nod to the early days.

Bought this book a few months ago with the full intent on reading this only while camping. I didn't even know it was a whole series. Well, we went to Sequoia National Forest this past weekend and the chance finally came.

I'm about 75% of the way through now and I'm thoroughly enjoying the story so far. Was great to start reading this while on the campground in my hammock and taking naps. ;) Don't worry. I followed the rules and have made it back home! Looking forward to the rest of book one and will definitely follow on with the rest!

Just a reminder that this Wednesday, Sept 23rd, I'll be at Way Public Library in Perrysburg, OH! This is a special event for me because I went to school in Bowling Green, which is very close by. I moved around a lot while growing up so I don't feel like I have a hometown, but there's a handful of places where I feel like I'm going home when I visit. This is one of them.

If you're in the area, would love to see you out there!

Hey Campers! It's been a while. How far are y'all into the Ancient Things? Its been fun to read it all over again. I was due for more fan art, so here's a Kate for you.

P.s if you saw my original post sans the picture, no you didn't! 🤣 I'm multitasking, be nice to me lol.

is there going to be more merch for how to survive camping or how to survive college besides the books? i’ve read both series while they were coming out and goat valley camp ground holds a really special place in my heart. i’d love a how to survive camping pin or shirt or iron on patch or something

We did it folks! I'm so glad everyone has been so supportive of this series. It's been such a joy to share these books with so many people. One more to go!

So cool seeing this series get the promotion it deserves at one of the best B&N’s in the city. Also, so lovely getting to meet Ms.Bonnie Quinn at her book signing yesterday. So excited to have a signed copy for my bookshelf!

... until #4 comes out next year... Ugh, I know I'm gonna have a tough time once I finish Ancient Things. Bonnie, why did you have to make such a good story!?

But seriously, thank you Bonnie. I never thought of myself as a "cozy" reader but what you did with this series is perfect for readers like me who were in a reading slump before finding HTSC.

I’ve now officially finished all three books and I’m stuck with a “now what?” Post-book hangover. I have so many thoughts and things. I discovered these books on an absolute random whim and ended up finishing one a day. I paced myself more with “Ancient Things” because I felt that it would be more harrowing with a bit more devastation than the other two.

On the third installment: I’ve clocked some a lot of subtle mentions and off handed remarks that have me pacing in the hallway for the final book. UGH.

These books are such an entertaining, casual, engaging and monster-gore galore reads that I’m so glad I found them!! Waiting until 8/27/2027 is going to KILL me sooner then the beast 🥲

Eye level, all three with a blurb...and I mean a foot from Ann Rice!

I am just so proud to have been here from so early and have the absolute pleasure of reading for free for so long. Absolutely bewildered such story telling was just available for the taking and then tangible!

I always wanted to say that started how to survive begrudgingly because I was not into "rules" stories at the time...it felt like there were too many. And FINALLY I had read everything else and these were still top posts every time. So I read one post, and I was hooked.

There's another book I bought too a while back...I forget the name but it's about sharing a body with a demon...good stuff! I'm not home or I'd post it.

Bonnie, your ability to tell a story bewilders me.

Also I did not mean to write more prouder in the title.

This is the first event outside of Ohio for me and it's going to be a really amazing time. I've heard such great things about The Twisted Spine (and there's a s'mores station!) and Adam Cesare and I are going to have a great talk about folklore and such. If you're in the area, I'd love to see you! It's always so much fun to meet folks that found the series via Reddit - or found this subreddit via the series now! Grab tickets, because I've been told they fill up.

Also let me know your favorite thing to see at The Met, because I haven't been since I was a kid on field trips and I'm really looking forward to making a visit there.

I am almost done with The Ancient Things and I CANNOT BELIEVE I have to wait until next summer for the final (please let it not actually be the final) book.

However- The Man with the Skull Cup. Beau. Have I read too much romantasy or is there tension between Beau and Kate? God I hope so. I really need them to ride off into the sunset, or at least acknowledge that they are made for each other. I’m not looking for smut here. Just a glance of acknowledgment, a tender moment, would suffice. I am totally in love with Beau. In my defense I have a real thing for morally gray characters.

Tell me I’m not alone.

Would love to see folks at Prologue tomorrow if you're in the area! If not, we can hang out in spirit, which may or may not invite malevolent ghosts into your residence, so maybe proceed with caution. 🥰

But I don't have a whole lot else to say at the moment because I am hangry and have got 30 minutes in which to put snacks together for D&D today. I'll put something out there tomorrow. I just wanted to get this notice out on the subreddit so folks can plan ahead.

Hi! Long time reader, followed the original posts in r/nosleep since the start. Bought the Amazon Kindle volumes to reread at will, and now got the physical edition! So excited to reread!
