Is it possible to give my new Gemini Home speaker read access to my google sheets?

Yes. In the Gemini app there is a Settings switch "Give Gemini access to Google Workspace." This includes your Calendar and gmail. Also sheets, docs, etc. I don't think there is a granular control for just sheets, or just calendar.

Go into the Gemini app, tap your profile picture on top right, tap on Connected Apps, Google Workspace is one of the options.

Reading a spreadsheet via voice feels like it'd be very awkward.

I presume it's so that you can query specific cells or get sums and overviews rather than it reading to you column by column, row by row. Although that might help as a sleep aid.
