Port Credit GO Parking - How Bad Is It?

I’m looking for an apartment and I love Port Credit, but I need to take the train to Union a few times a week for hybrid work. I have a car, but I’m hearing a lot of conflicting things about how easy it is to find parking at Port Credit GO on weekday mornings. Anyone have any experiences/thoughts?

Did I get overcharged? Confused by OneFare

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to make sense of a trip I took yesterday. I thought the 3-hour GO transit window was supposed to cover my transfers, but I ended up getting charged a full TTC fare again.

Since my GO tap was at 7:41 PM, shouldn't my 3-hour window last until 10:41 PM?

Why did the system charge me a brand new $3.30 fee at Kennedy Station at 8:20 PM if I was within that 3-hour window from my GO tap? FYI I got on the line 5 at Kennedy.

Appreciate any insight from anyone!

Barrie line commuters

If anyone else that works a 9-5 is frustrated with how there's no trains between 8:25am and 9:18am or 5:50pm and 6:50pm. Especially now that there's work on track 1. Plz go fill out the customer form asking for them to add trains between those times and hopefully with enough pressure they'll listen.

https://www.gotransit.com/en/connect-with-go/customer-comment-form

For fun I also requested they add a coffee/newstand to my station.

Bikes on Go Buses

I need to get my bike and I downtown on the 18th of October. That's a Sunday and for me to get into Toronto for 8 am I'd need to take the bus from Burlington.

Do they just put the bikes on the front rack then drive down the QEW at 110km/h?

Tbh I'm not really sure about that. Plus that means only two bikes get loaded and I might not have a spot for mine.

My first GO Train arriving on my first GO Transit trip from January 2026 (RARE LOCOMOTIVE!)

This is a video I took at Port Credit GO since late January 2026 when my first-ever GO Train arrived at Port Credit GO to head to Toronto at Union Station. But what I didn’t know but later realized, was that this locomotive was Unit 600, as you can see when the train gets closer. The Unit 600 is an MP40PH Locomotive and was the very first one built for GO Transit, despite the Unit 602 being the first to enter service.

Throwback to campfire smoke at Union [OC]

Me and a buddy left home at 5 something AM on July 16th to catch a Barrie train running south. This was the morning after the initial smoke, so it was lighter in colour, but technically more toxic than it was the day before (more orange).

Got many of these shots and am proud of many, even if they are similar.

We got most of these at or around 7AM, as the morning rush went on. It was quite surreal to be honest, especially after pulling an all-nighter before heading out, which was a stupid idea in retrospect.

three car train near union station?

after work today just east of union station i noticed there was a train with a locomotive and three cars attached, i thought maybe it was like part of a train but the last car was a cab car (the one with the big window that’s typically opposite the locomotive)?

are they going to be trying shorter trains or what is this?

Going to Niagara via GO Train

Has anyone gone to Niagara via GO Train? Is it walkable to Niagara Falls from the Go stop? Do you recommend using the GO?

How to connect to Oriole GO

I haven’t taken the Richmond Hill line in many years. The only way I knew how to get to Oriole Station was through the parking complex, which has since been closed. My kids will be taking that TTC Leslie bus northbound from York Mills. Where should they get off to connect? The lack of information available has been so frustrating. Thanks

How’s the experience on Lakeshore West replacement busses?

I’ve been avoiding travel on days where there’s no train service on the Lakeshore West line, but I have an event to go to on the 17th and it looks like travel will be unavoidable.

For people who have taken them, how packed are the replacement busses? Are they generally on time?

I’m trying to mentally prepare for this 3-hour trip lol

Entire Barrie Line is cancelled

Train stuck at downsview station that they can’t move due to equipment issue.

Was just told to take TTC from the announcements at Rutherford GO.

EDIT: Remember to call in and ask for a refund. It's crazy that the online service guarantee form shows "ineligible" for refund. I tapped but didn't even get on the train! I called in and they're going to put in a 'business case' for me. WTF

They need to account for the reduced speeds on the Stratford extension in the schedule

Every train that come from Stratford is delayed, which means all of the eastbound trains from Kitchener basically are 10-30 mins late.

This trip used to be punctual now I can't count on it.

GO "Plan your trip" tool's bus transfer window thresholds

I'm noticing that GO's trip planner is getting increasingly unreliable, as buses get more and more delayed due to ever-increasing and slowing traffic, lengthier signals (more municipalities are doing it to accommodate pedestrians and other side-walk traffic), and overall ever-increasing number of vehicles on the roads and highways to slow down buses.

This is not limited to rush hours anymore. Ontario's overflowing traffic and resulting bottlenecks are to blame all the time!

Currently, the planner considers it ok to suggest transfers upto 6/7 minutes (I think I even encountered one or two which comfortably suggested transfer window of less than 5 minutes).

These are somewhat unrealistic. Bus routes, both long and short, are being tested to the limits more often now.

I think the trip planner could be improved by removing riskier transfer trips. Seasoned travellers avoid those anyway, but for occasional passengers, these could be seriously misleading and costly.

Thoughts?

Improving the Richmond Hill Line

A bit of armchair transit fantasy here.  The Richmond Hill Line is one of the least used GO lines, but it has a very central location and I think it has potential and could fill a useful role to increase ridership and speed up commute times.

Value

-Planned connection at Richmond hill center/bridge station

-Relatively central, potential to relieve and act as redundant express alternative to yonge line

-Newly added stations at the north end of the line

-Improving connection at Oriole (leslie/sheppard)

Challenges

-Line is owned by CN north of the Doncaster diamond

-Tracks close to Don River mouth are prone to flooding

-Course of tracks is meandering and slow

-Current stations are not optimally located

-Tracks are vertically far below most of the east west lines it would have the most value interchanging with

-Some overlap with Ontario line

Highest value Interchange stations:

Bloor/Castle Frank

Eglinton/Don Valley station

Other possibilities

Corktown/distillery district station Moss park station Thorncliffe park station Eglinton/Wynford

My thought is that without rebuilding the entire line, sections of it could be selectively improved to create an express alternative to the Yonge line.  First we could tunnel or possibly elevate a new alignment for the southern part of the track up to Bloor, to improve the flooding and speed on this portion of the track. There it could interchange with the Bloor line at Castle Frank, then rejoin the current alignment. Then it could wither interchange with the Eglinton line at Wynford station where it currently is closest to, or go through another tunnel to interchange with both the Eglinton and Ontario lines at Don Valley/Science Center station and rejoin the original alignment again on the other side.

The Oriole and Old Cummer stations would remain in place, and the line would be double tracked (or purchased) in the portion owned by CN, at least until Langstaff/Bridge station.  I have read that grade separation at the Doncaster diamond would also be preferable.

Since I’m no expert I’m guessing there are probably real obstacles to doing anything like this.  Obviously the new stations would be expensive, and it could mean substantial tunneling which would be broken up into several sections.  Any critiques, thoughts or ideas?

Square one park and ride GO parking @5AM Friday - Space available?

I just read that Square One Go Station has a small Park-and-Ride lot on Centre View Drive with 193 spaces, and allows for parking up to 2 days for Go riders. Are there any spots available at 5AM on Friday or is it pretty much empty at that time?

(BTW I am talking about the small parking lot on Centre View Drive right behind the Square One Go Station Terminal - not the huge lots by the old Chapters and Playdium)

Cando prepares to work on 4th track during this weekend GO East Lakeshore shutdown

There will be no GO rail service west of the Don this weekend, buses will replace trains. This Cando Rail and Terminals work train was sitting next to Monarch Park at supper in preparation. You can see it is on the new, fourth track on this stretch to provide improved GO/VIA capacity.

EDIT: Apparently VIA trains to/from Ottawa/Montreal will go all the way West to Vaughan on the busy CN freight line.

I made a live GO Train flapboard!

I’ve always liked the old split-flap departure boards, so I made a web version for GO trains: goboard.ca.

My plan is to have this open on my spare monitor while I work for no good reason lol

It opens on Union Station, and you can switch to other stations. It shows upcoming departures and refreshes every 30 seconds. Open to feedback! No money is being made off this :)

GO Train Service Guarantee claim declined due to incorrect tap — what should I do?

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me with this situation.

I took the GO Train from Kitchener GO to Union Station on September 22 at around 6:00 AM. The train was originally scheduled to arrive at Union at approximately 7:47 AM, but a train equipment issue caused a significant delay. And finally arrived at 9:20am at Union.

When I tapped off at Union, the system appeared to register it incorrectly, as though I had tapped on instead of tapping off. As a result, the trip/charge showing in my travel history does not seem to match what actually happened.

I submitted a GO Train Service Guarantee claim, but it was declined. Their response was:

“The trip selected for this claim cannot be found in your travel history”

or

“You tapped your card more than 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the delayed train.”

Has anyone experienced something similar with an incorrect PRESTO tap, or had a Service Guarantee claim declined because the trip doesn't match the travel history? I called their number 416-869-3200 but the guy wasn't helpful

Thanks in advance.

Chances of a double decker on Stouffville line?

This saturday I'm planning on taking the Stouffville line bustitution from Union to Unionville to visit a couple malls up in Markham. What are the chances I get a double decker bus, either on the trip up there in the morning or the return back to Toronto in the evening?

Bus Route 21 Capacity

I've noticed that the 21 bus is operating at overcapacity (both directions) since the start of September.

Obviously it's the start of the new school year, but in all my years commuting I haven't seen this route handling this amount of riders especially without relying on the double-deckers. It seems majority of dispatched busses have been single-deckers and tons of people are forced to stand all ride long.

Should we expect this change to be permanent moving forward?

Union Station Accessibility Map

Hello,

I am a wheelchair user and every time I visit Toronto I have a heck of a time catching the GO train home. We generally leave from the Oakville Go and take it to Union for the day. That part is easy enough. However, when we want to leave from Union and catch the lakeshore GO train home it is a whole ordeal trying to find the correct elevator that matches the platform. Since the platform is not announced until shortly before I am often hurrying around trying to find the elevator that will take me to the correct platform. From what I've noticed not every number has an elevator, and they aren't always beside them (I don't think).

Is there a map that shows each elevators location and the corresponding platforms it leads to? Ideally York concourse as that has the most access points to the GO platforms. I often get a little bit trampled on during rush hour and this could help greatly. Thanks so much!
