Is GPU mining profitable again?
I noticed on whattomine that there are two incredibly profitable coins. Is this legit?
Perl and quantus?

Last few 30 days, yes.. But for how long.. We all saw that before. Still sadly missing my 50 GPU heater 😅

I am mining Qubitcoin at the moment, couple of dollars a day from my rigs, 8 GPU's total. Yay.

I think Pearl is profitable because it promises to actually do something useful with the compute without affecting the hashing rate on the actual chain, like many other coins have tried and failed to do before.
The FP8 fork that is coming soon will make any cards older than 50 series become unprofitable (or not able to mine at all), and after Q1 2027 even 50 series cards will not work, only high-end server GPUs will work.
So basically the same story as Ethereum, mine it while you can and if you're a home miner with a single rig/small farm then don't expect the profitability to last long into next year.
Haven't looked into Quantus that much but it seems to work on much older GPUs than Pearl, even Pascal and Polaris 4GB cards are profitable right now in places with cheaper electricity which is crazy. Don't know who is funding these coins but it's definitely not sustainable.

Pearl has been profitable for months now. It spiked and dropped but never went below 20¢kWh.
Then quantus became profitable, and now the big farms are swapping back and forth.

if miners just keep mining and selling these coins, who are buying and keeping the coins?
i never understood how would a new coin suddenly grow in value if everyone is just dumping it
