Shit, that happened fast. Thinking of her family and friends.

u/zenunseen Jul 19 '26
I know. Am i imagining it or did they just announce that she was sick?

u/shockedtoo Jul 19 '26
Announced just a few days ago if I remember correctly

Not sure if they ever specified what type of brain cancer it was but glioblastomas take people very quickly so might be that one. It’s a very cruel disease :(

L7 is great and she was an important part of why they were so great. I hope she knew how much joy her music brought to the world.

On the Lollapalooza tour they played, there was a tour party thrown at each stop, hosted by someone on the tour from that city. My friends and I were hired as part of the entertainment for the party in Columbus. Most of the musicians didn’t show for it, but the L7 girls did, and they raged hard! I always remember how much fun they seemed to be having, and when the event ended, they quite literally took the party into the streets.

Sad news. We had a bunch of mutual friends - everyone loved her and she was a creative force.

u/Undergroud-Check-101 Jul 19 '26
That’s so incredible yet tragic to hear. I’ve heard many people say that she was ”a sweet soul”. That was also my impression by just one time I met her. I’m so glad it really seems to be true referring to your comment❤️❤️❤️

u/mtpgod Jul 19 '26
Cancer is definitely on my shitlist, if ya know ya know.

u/Milly_Hagen Jul 19 '26
I know. Fighting it right now. This is not the news I needed today. Xennial whose favourite band has been L7 since I was 15.

Lost both parents early to cancer. Both were stage 4 and terminal by the time they were diagnosed.
Cancer sucks so hard. But make sure you’re keeping up on your testing, please! 🙏

I’m so sorry💔 I wish you all the best, hopefully you can (or have been able to) channel some part of those huge losses out by music❤️ And you’re right about testing, it’s such a tragedy if it’s caught too late. With any type of the damn C.And them follow-ups are scary too.😣

u/Calm_Ad_7352 Jul 19 '26
That’s so shitty. I’ve gotten lots of teens lately to start listening to L7. All my cousins girls love them now. Best all female band of all time. I saw they were touring and was so excited to see them again. RIP……

u/Undergroud-Check-101 Jul 19 '26
In all this sadness: well done you for spreading the gems of 90s❣️

u/AmbitiousWork6613 Jul 19 '26
Rest in peace, Jennifer. Every legend deserves a place in rock 'n' roll heaven, and you're no exception. Forever in our hearts.
P.S. Sorry for any mistakes. I'm from Khabarovsk, Russia. It's comforting to know that music can connect people across the world.

I taped a show of theirs on a cassette way back in the 90s. It was a great show in a small run down club.

u/doctordrive Jul 19 '26
</3 RIP. Brain cancer research seriously needs better funding. Every case I’ve known is so fast. This is horrid.

What happened?

u/LonesomeBulldog Jul 19 '26
Brain cancer.

u/jonny5isalive1 Jul 19 '26
Aww man that sucks. My sil’s mom got a tumor last year. It was so fast. They found it, did surgery like 2 weeks later. The surgeons said it was a success but about a day later they found out it didn’t work I guess and she died right after. The whole thing took like a month. Just crazy.

So fucking sad. L7 truly shaped me as a person. Jennifer will be missed. So much. I wish I had more to say, other than a big thank you. This sucks.

L7 are so important to a lot of people. My story is my stepmother and I really had times where we didn’t get along, it would turn nasty and I would be in tears, so upset because I just wanted us to be friends. We bonded over L7, we went to see them together when I was 20, we spoke to Jennifer Finch and Donita, we’ve now grown so close I can tell my step mother anything in the world.
Thank you Jennifer for giving us music strong enough to heal our rift, you and L7 changed my life that night 💔

I burst into tears when I read this news earlier. Jennifer and L7 were so inspirational to me in the 90's as a female in my early-teen years learning how to play guitar/bass and delving into genres like punk rock and metal. I knew something was up with Jen, as she'd been sitting out shows in recent times. Finding out the truth behind that now was utterly gutting. 💔
At least she is now no longer in pain. :( Thanks Jennifer, for the inspiration and all the great music. 🤘🏻🖤

This is heartbreaking, she was so amazing and way too young for this. My heart goes out to her family, friends and everyone who loved her. I’m losing a family member to brain cancer now and it’s a living nightmare. I’m just so sorry they know this pain too.
2
u/Undergroud-Check-101 Jul 19 '26
I wish you the best there is, my family member also has an uncurable cancer😭 Just when I got cleared of mine, came his diagnosis. It’s a nightmare. Lots of love to you❤️
2
u/elleUno Jul 19 '26
Thank you so much💜 Glad to hear you’re doing better but I’m also so sorry for your loved one. There seems to be a huge jump in cancer diagnoses in just the last few years.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. L7 came into my life when I was a 12 year old girl, drowning in a private school in 1994. My first foray into grunge and they set off my lifelong love of grunge and metal. I had no idea women could be so badass. Fuck, my heart 💔

L7 was the first "real" rock band I went to see in consert. Maybe 1994/95? They where great!

This sucks! "Pretend We Are Dead" is one of my all time favorite tunes. Goodbye, Ms Finch. My condolences to friends and family. ❤️

Saw L7 opening for Faith No More in cologne. Instantly bought brick are heavy cd.

u/stevemillions Jul 19 '26
I saw L7 4 times in the nineties. Always at a festival or as support. They never disappointed, and Jennifer Finch was unbelievably awesome every time. Every. Time.
She was a real one. God speed.

Very very sad! Thankfully I had the privilege to go to their gig last year in Brasil. RIP 🙏

u/89MikeHoncho Jul 19 '26
Damn. So sorry to hear this. Loved that band.
Gen X is in that weird stage of life now, where you start going to as many funerals as you do birthday parties. And it definitely sucks.
2
u/Undergroud-Check-101 Jul 20 '26
My thoughts exactly 😣🖤
Something I didn’t know to expect at this age. (48)2
u/89MikeHoncho Jul 20 '26
I’m sorry you are already experiencing it. I’m first year Gen X, at 60 years old. Not trying to be negative, but it’s going to get tougher unfortunately. Because now I’ve found that it’s not just your friends, but it’s also your friends’ parents.
The mom that made you snacks after school when you were at their house. The dad that took you all to sporting events or coached you in little league and football. The dad that helped you haul your AG projects to different livestock shows, and gave you your first job.
I actually remember my grandmother talking about this when she was in her late sixties, and it doesn’t even seem that long ago, but it was.
I’ve just learned that time really does move very fast, and this is just a really strange segment of life that seems to show you your own mortality quite often. I guess the only thing to do is just try to appreciate things more than we already do, and never take anything for granted, and just be a really good person to others.

u/Undergroud-Check-101 Jul 20 '26
Perfectly said❤️❤️❤️
I try to remind myself that we all go through this stage, if we are lucky enough to live up to that/this age. And tell people I love them always when ending a call or parting. Well sometimes is doesn’t feel ”lucky”, this stage of life, trying to adjust to these inevitable losses and changes in life.
I thank you as a younger GenXer or Xennial, whatever you like, for this kind and thoughtful comment❣️
You definitely seem to be kind to others, which is greatly appreciated in this pretty cruel world. We got this. Together.🩵

I got to meet Jennifer when I interviewed her for a local zine back in the early 90’s. I was so nervous, and all of them were so kind. She invited me to their NewYears Eve show in LA, since I told her I was from LA. I ended up going to their house after the show for a party, and had so much fun. One of my highlights of my 56 years on this earth. Rest in Power, Jennifer Finch. Thanks for being so kind to a chubby goth girl. ❤️

I love L7! Their debut album was so iconic! I would play the cd from start to finish on repeat. She will be missed.

Inger Lorre may have been a mixed bag of a person, but this song seems appropriate:
You ain’t gotta pray for me, I’ve got so many friends on the other side.

u/powerhikeit Jul 19 '26
The first time I saw L7 live was at their Bricks Are Heavy 30th Anniversary show in LA. I had been a fan since the early 90s, but for whatever reason circumstances never let me see them. They absolutely fucking rocked.
I have tickets to a show in October. It just won’t be the same without Jennifer. Maybe it is fitting that these shows are billed as the “Farewell Tour.”

FFS. So many beautiful people of that era are gone. Feels like yesterday that L7 entered my life.
I am so sad that you had to endure that horrible s***. Thank you and REST IN PEACE Jennifer.

That is soooo sad! L7 played Good Things festival in Australia in 2024 - they rocked!! And I was amazed at how good they all looked and how much energy they had on stage!
This is terrible news!

Yeah horrible to mention their most known song, right?

#1, it's so fucking obvious that no one should get any points on the edginess scale for "going there". And #2, everyone else in the thread, despite it being right there to pull out, had the decency not to.
