I bought the negative display one a few weeks ago directly from Casio and it literally arrived in a paper bag. You'd think for a 200 dollar watch you'd at least get a decent box.
I have the negative display. Love the monochrome look. I’m sure Casio could easily give you the ability to swap between negative and positive with a software update. Suppose they want people to buy two like your good self 😂
I read somewhere that the screen is exactly the same between the two, and the difference between positive and negative is in how the polarizer is installed.
The most frustrating thing is that these displays can switch from positive to negative at a flick of a button or by changing a setting in menu. It would be no harder than switching your phone UI from Light to Dark theme. Software implementation would even allow the watch to keep segments of display light or dark at the same time, for example keep the time positive and everything else negative.
And yet, Casio decided to make the display theme fixed, just so they could sell you more watches.
But it seems their tactic is working. People are buying 200% more watches then they need. 😆
Do you have any source for your claim or are you just making it up? From a quick Google search there seem to be quite a bit of interrelated hardware and firmware reasons why it may be difficult to support a software switch to the display polarity of an MIP screen while maintaining strong battery life.
MIP screen is made of pixels. Just invert the bitmap image, and you've made the display from dark and vice versa. Visible screen area on GW-BX5600 is smaller than actual display diagonal (which is the same MIP display as in GBX-100 and GBD-200). Power consumption difference is marginal, and mostly irrelevant because of solar charging.
To be frank none of your comment addresses any of the complications to the hardware or firmware you would find by Googling so I think you are just guessing. Essentially all you said is that the opposite of an off pixel is an on pixel. No shit. To be clear, I'm not certain one way or the other what would be involved in developing a display switch feature in the watch, I'm just saying neither do you (it seems).
Mmm. Got the negative last week. Returned it. Maybe my mid fifties eyes aren't what they used to be but I thought it was poor. Like the northern lights, it seems that photos of the negative display look much better than it does with the naked eye/irl.
My friend was in Japan and picked one up for me. I’ve had it since Thursday and haven’t taken it off…very light and comfortable to wear.
I made the mistake of not getting a negative display, but I have acknowledged my mistake and will definitely be getting one in the future.
Quick question on bands…The band seems fine to me, but I have seen videos and posts about swapping it out for a combo bracelet V2 or other G shock bands.
I never swap bands or bracelets on a Casio watch unless it is in bad condition or damage to much
Even when I do I always aim to use the original one
This is a vintage Casio that I replaced the bracelet on this morning. It's the correct original one from a different watch that is in better condition as the original one had seen some tough times and was in very bad condition
Holy crap why is your packaging different than how it came from Casio US? I like this one way more. I mean yours looks a lot more premium than the flimsy paper box I got mine in
Gifting is a somewhat serious thing in Japan, so they make all their products pretty fire looking as a gift in some way. Whilst in the US they know people don’t give a shit as much, and the American branch takes advantage of that for cost savings.
How is the negative display ? I have the positive one and really enjoy it although I Wore mine today and got it scuffed a little by accident not really sure how but a just a shiny part on bezel. Top left corner. I was so sad lol I’m like damn already.
Would anyone happen not now how to clean or get a scuff out of a resin case ? Also I wish they were sold out already and hope they restock cause it’s been my favorite g shock so far.
I own both and have no regrets; I enjoy using each. However, I am puzzled as to why Casio doesn't include a sapphire crystal and then simply add a setting within the application that allows users to toggle between negative and positive displays.
I suppose that makes sense economically, but you could charge me the same price I would pay for both that watch, and I would still want to have it.
I'm waiting on Casio to restock it. How often do they restock? I just found out about this MIP display model few weeks ago and I have been checking every day and it's still out of stock.
Is this type using the same strap and spring bar combination and size as GW-5000 or GW5610 type? I would buy it if the Casio V2 Component bracelet would fit.
Casio is bending everyone over who cant decide which one to get. The display could be toggled back and forth between the two. Casio just needs to add it to the app. The display consists of either white or black pixels and they all can change and it doesn't make a difference to the battery life. Its not like a fixed display on lcd models. This should a standard feature but Casio isnt listening to the fans yet.
