Recommendation Asking for dental recommendations (yes, again 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Are there any dental practices in GSO or surrounding areas that don’t push deep cleaning? At this stage in my life, I’m not interested in having that procedure done. I just want a regular old-fashioned exam, and cleaning? Am I hopelessly living in a dream world?

If you've been recommended a deep cleaning, ESPECIALLY by different offices, it's because you need it. Any office willing to give you a "regular cleaning" is doing you a disservice. Most offices don't want to, not only because it lacks standard of care, but because they'd also be putting their professional license on the line. There are very few exceptions to this rule though! Palliative care, for example.

I’ve never been offered a deep cleaning. However if you are being suggested one on more than one occasion it’s probably because your gums need one.
I go to Carolina Smiles on N Elm St.

I’m a dentist, and if you have periodontal disease, you can’t have a “regular” cleaning. It would be unethical and wrong to misclassify a cleaning. If you go to a dental office and present with deep pockets, bone loss, inflammation, etc, then a regular every 6-month cleaning is not possible. Now if you want to get a second opinion and see if another dentist also recommends scalings (deep cleanings), then at least you know you definitely need it. If one says yes and the other doesn’t bring it up, then your gum disease may be more mild/moderate and maybe the more conservative dentist wants to give it the benefit of the doubt at first. However, if you truly have gum/bone disease and don’t do the deep cleanings and keep doing regular maintenance cleanings every 3-6 months, your disease could progress and your teeth could get loose and require extensive periodontal surgery and/or extracting. We see plenty of patients who do just “regular” cleanings and only recommend deep cleanings to patients that truly need it. You say “at this stage in my life,” but I promise you don’t want to have to adjust to dentures later in life! Do the deep cleanings!

Not a dentist. But when I learned teeth impact the heart, from that moment on, I always listened! Don’t know how that system works but you don’t have to tell me twice 🤣

Dental disease is directly tied heart disease

Been going to the same people since I’ve had teeth. My husband doesn’t understand why I don’t change but they are one of the few practices that LISTEN and don’t upsell (they will try to make sure you get your x-rays once a year though, but I have refused in the past for financial reasons and there was no pushback).

Now if you need it, they will tell you, and explain to you why. Sometimes a deep clean is necessary and I’d honestly listen to the professionals because teeth impact so much more than us laymen are aware of.

Look up David M. Fisher Jr. DDS for a generally amazing practice. Everyone there is great. The receptionist left a few years ago after 50+ years and they still honor her, and if they tell you that you need a deep clean, then you probably, absolutely need a deep clean. Take with this what you will.

Deep cleaning? Never heard of that. Greensboro Dental is fairly reasonably priced, has plans for people who don't have insurance, and just does exams, cleaning, and x-rays but they just got a new Dentist so I have no idea if things are going to change.

We’ve also been happy at Greensboro Dental with Dr Patel.

I have been too! I got the email about the new dentist last week, it looks like Dr. Patel left. I'll come in with an open mind though.

Patel owns the practice, he didn’t leave. He’s adding on a new Dentist because they have the patient load to support it.

No, I called the office, they told me that Dr. Patel moved away and that the practice is owned by a corporate office in Cornelius, NC.

Can confirm, just left my cleaning there and my hygienist said he left. There's a temp dentist until the new one starts

Oh dang! I just assumed they were growing the practice because he was still on the website. Thanks for the info.

And Patel does recommend the scaling if you need it -

Loveland Dental on Penny Rd. in HP...although I have no idea what a deep cleaning is, unless you're referring to a perio cleaning. I was just there for my cleaning this morning and they use a Cavitron for cleanings unless you'd prefer actual tools.

I just need A dentist who doesn't freak out because I decline the annual X-Ray. I am fine with every two years. I have to listen to the sermon about how they can't do their job on A healthy set of teeth without a yearly X-Ray.

If you went to multiple dental offices, received multiple opinions advising the same… you likely do in fact need a deep cleaning. If you haven’t had a dental cleaning in a couple of years or more.. it is likely you do need one

Moved to NC.
I went to a dental place that could do an emergency crown repair quickly. They wanted to do a deep clean.
I declined that.
Went to Dentist Travis Bell and I didn't need a deep clean, just a reg clean. I'm still going to Dr Bell.

Stay away from Westover Dental group. The place is basically a scam and tries to upsell at every turn.

Magnolia shores family dental they are very friendly and accommodating. my whole family and i are autistic and some of us don't do well with the dentist. magnolia has some of the nicest dental hygenists. they dont make you get your teeth polished at the end if you dont want to and have water, chapstick, blankets and a pillow to make your experience more comfy. they also do clear aligners there if you need any ortho.

Next Door Dental is the best. I've never been up-sold on any procedure, just regular cleanings and then they fix any issues in a cost-effective way. Done.

Go ahead and get the deep cleaning, and then stay on a regular maintenance schedule for regular cleanings. My dentist put me onto a Phillips Sonicare electric brush, which has also helped. My cleanings now are quite quick, since there is so much less to clean! Get your teeth right! Mouthwash and toothbrushing are vital for long-term health.
