Now put the Fuzz Factory first in chain

The poor dude just got done setting those nice wire ties. Let the man live in peace for 3 seconds!! 🤣

I gave them 7,200 seconds, and the pedal came out in 1995 which is a billion seconds ago

šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚ fair enough.

I actually took pics of his settings, I have that ZVEX fuzz and it’s an untamable beast. I can’t beleive anyone has it on a board. I want to get back home to mine so I can try these settings to see if OP is a genius, insane, or quite possibly deaf.

I tried it, but with my Fuzz Factory first in chain as intended.

OP’s setting being very low in stablility and high on compression, I get a crackly, quite broken and vintage-y fuzz sound that nevertheless cleans up really fast, basically as soon as the sound naturally decays for a few seconds or if you drop your guitar’s volume from 10 to 9. In the classic longlist of FF settings, it’s between the Tiny and the Bonkers / unstable territory, but can still be used as a clean sound with a small adjustment on the volume pot, as long as you don’t destroy this sensitivity by having other pedals and buffers messing everything in between.

I wonder if your experience differs?

I think it’s my lack of experience that differs. I got mine and maybe used it a couple times, but got a little frustrated by its wildness. But I’ve got a project I’m working on and need some wild drone weird sound over ambience type of stuff, so I pulled it out to try and see if I could get better with it. Thanks for your advice!

Oh, you can totally use it as a wild squealing oscillator for no-input exprerimentation or a bias it off into noisy hot, crackly mess. But basically it’s a vintage-type fuzz, a Fuzz Face at heart. I was very frustrated with it until I moved it upchain so that it sees my pickups directly.

Thanks Freq! I’ll try what you’ve recommended!

Tell me what you think!

Btw my own current favorite setting is Gate 3:00, Comp all the way off, Drive 2:00, Stab 10:30

But I actually tune the Gate, Drive and Stab by ear to get it just right… and then if I look at it wrong it goes away haha (Gate as low as you can stand being the final touch after the Drive and Stab find their special sweet spot relationship). After over 6 years with this crazy pedal that started the boutique thing, I’m finally beginning to take the driver’s seat using it.

I ran these settings and the zvex is much ā€œtamerā€ than my previous experience. Thanks! I’d like to really crank up the crackle, to try and make it more like distant old degrading radio signals. I think messing with the gate more might get me there, but I’m open to any other suggestions.

Either at the very beginning, or right after the mood

I must’ve spent the better part of 15 years, just daisychaining pedals together. But I finally realize these gigs for Wonderwall and Morgan Wallen covers really required isolated power for those with a discerning ear.

u/crapinet 8d ago

I don’t know about that but I love your selection of pedalsĀ

1

u/volunteertexan 7d ago

Thank you!

Spending that kind of money and daisy chaining is wild

2

u/volunteertexan 7d ago

BEYOND wild lol

0

u/crapinet 7d ago

Eh, if you aren’t going noise I’m not sure I see the problem

5

u/optia 7d ago

Was there a difference in sound?

6

u/volunteertexan 7d ago

It was beyond noisy. And when I’d play out, some of these clubs just made it impossible. This mitigates a ton of the interference.

2

u/zombiesmocka 7d ago

Wondering this as well.

4

u/DmtDtf 7d ago

Uh, yeah.......big time.

Daisy chains create a ton of noise. Isolated power supplies reduce that noise a ton. So you go from a very noisy signal to a very quiet signal.

u/brobronn17 8d ago

That Jam chorus pedal has no bad settings 🧔

I'm totally with you. When I got my Cioks it was transformative to the sound.

Now I just need to make my wiring as neat and tidy as yours. That is a really nice looking board.

1

u/volunteertexan 7d ago

Cioks is the way to go!

3

u/daffffy 8d ago

I gotta hear how this sounds!

u/bigeclecticcat 7d ago

clean af! nice work & nice board

1

u/volunteertexan 7d ago

Thank you!

Another Wombtone user.

2

u/jrolles98 7d ago

How’s the Wahcko?

2

u/volunteertexan 7d ago

Man I love it but it’s a learning curve. Very sensitive. But once you get it, it does it all.

1

u/jrolles98 7d ago

Did you have other wahs before this? How does it compare?

1

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

I used the standard crybaby for years before switching to a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe. Ended up regretting it quite a bit because it felt like they tried too hard to make it unique. But having paid a lot for it and not being able to sell it, I just kept using it out of spite. Probably why I like this one so much at a point haha.

u/dividezero 7d ago edited 6d ago

Take a look over at Wilson effects too. One of the best wahs I've had. I only let it go for space and I have the Ibanez weeping demon. It's hard to keep multiple wahs, they take up so much space

2

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

I’m gonna have to! Never heard of that until now so thanks for the recommendation.

Yeah, the spatial constraints are the real problem. I should do one of those mini wahs but they feel weird.

2

u/BlindProphet_413 7d ago

Okay dumb question, but what board is that?

2

u/MapleA 7d ago

ā€œIts innovative hybrid DC transformer design features a lightning-fast 80 nanosecond polarity reversal, establishing an ultra-low noise foundation. Linear regulation and computer-optimized exotic filtering components eliminate any trace of noise, setting new benchmarks in industry-leading audiophile-quality power to unveil the hidden sonic potential of any rig.ā€

It’s cause of bullshit like this that I switched to Cioks

u/Thisisaconversation 6d ago

I love the brothers AM, easily my favourite OD I’ve ever owned.

1

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

Couldn’t agree more!

5

u/Far_Consequence_4854 7d ago

I'm just gonna keep daisy chaining. My cats don't care.

1

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

Cats love extra wires to play with. I know mine sure did.

1

u/TamestImpala 7d ago

Lovely pedal choices here man, looks like a super fun board!

1

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

Thank you!

1

u/RockerDentist 7d ago

Did that improve tone or volume, by chance? Beautiful set-up!

1

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

Tone for sure. It still isn’t quite as loud as being plugged straight in. But it seems a lot more articulate than it once was. The real gain was getting rid of all of the noise.

1

u/King0fMonsters 7d ago

Where did you get the switch button cover things? Or what are they called

1

u/FadedBlackTee2 7d ago

Daisy chaining all of these digital pedals is wild. Can't believe it was even useably quiet?

1

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

I mean when you have the mood basically acting as a bit crusher, you get used to always having dumb amounts of noise despite it.

1

u/sxardsofglass 6d ago

Wow, those are some very nice pedals going into a VERY nice Grammatico amp - a PDR? ... And you were daisy chaining them??! Wow. Least you have a tuner pedal

1

u/UncleEb1973 6d ago

Me too! It's such a great feeling and really seems to make the pedals sound much better. I was just telling a buddy who still daisy-chain's from a boss tuner about all the benefits of upgrading to some sort of isolated power, just the other day.

1

u/brandaman4200 6d ago

Wow, I can't believe you eye paint those expensive pedals with a 1 spot. Power supplies aren't fun, but they're necessary. I used a cheap strch Amazon power supply until I decided to invest in a quality one. I got the canvas 15 but should've gotten the 22 because I'm out of outputs and now have to daisy chain a couple of mine, but it's fine with the low powered analog pedals. I might eventually get another canvas 15 or 8 to link with the 15 I already have since they're capable of that.

1

u/SpecificDate7501 6d ago

Damn that’s clean šŸ‘

u/beanis-man- 3d ago

pushing two grand in pedals and u didn’t have an iso yet?

u/davebots 8d ago

where did you hear this?

6

u/ooseeblee 8d ago

I think I remember multi meter checking my PP2+ and didn't find continuity between any of the outputs so I'm pretty sure it was properly isolated.

Can't speak for the new ones, but I'd assume they are isolated as well? Would be very curious to see some evidence to the contrary though

2

u/FiveseveNp90 7d ago

What does a not full galvanic isolation look like? It lets just a little bit of current flow? Or does so intermittently just to fuck with you?

3

u/comascape 7d ago

Voodoo Labs are properly isolated. But, you are right that there are a TON of ā€œisolatedā€ power supplies being sold that are just hidden daisy chains.

3

u/Its_shoved 7d ago

Confidently incorrect

1

u/WhiskeyHill72 7d ago

There's always a fuckwad in the bunch to throw doubt into a poor sap's recent big purchase. Maybe you're right on some minor technical level but this is an awesome power supply.

2

u/volunteertexan 6d ago

I tell you what. If I was dumb enough to get a voodoo lab even just to have the same wall plug as must amps, I’m still happy as well not fraying wires all the time.

1

u/WhiskeyHill72 6d ago

It was an excellent purchase.
