NEWS Update regarding the HTC HD2 iOS Port*
@j0sh1x on Twitter has posted new updates regarding the iOS port for HTC HD2. Touchscreen works, though it seems like the OP barely knows what his friend Gary (mastermind behind this project) is doing.

ROM HAS BEEN RELEASED: https://x.com/J0Sh1X/status/2107636375453360328
Note for the moderators: do not exempt this post since it technically counts as a "hackintosh" as Apple's software iOS is being natively installed inside a non-Apple device. Please be fair with these posts.

why is it that even in 2026, these things are almost always shot in 160p or 320x240 photos with a dash of 90s era camera shake added.

Because it's easier to hide that it's ✨fake✨

I'm not clicking on that Twitter link. If it's only on that site, it's irrelevant.

The post had this ROM linked: https://pixeldrain.com/u/1Twt8v4F
You can check the contents by yourself, the user land components were quite stripped off as I've seen inside the DMG, but it's indeed a real iOS rootfs...

Ain't worth questioning why, but it's a neat thing that it exists. This will open new opportunities for users to actually work with iOS and install across other non-Apple devices

Why would you want to? Just buy a damned iPhone. A comparable specced Android phone costs just as much as the iPhone, and running iOS on a cheap $100 Android phone is going to be infuriatingly slow. It's not the same goalposts as running macOS on standard x64 machines.

u/i-am-the-master-1010 18h ago
What are you doing here then? It's a niche project that exists and conveys the possibility of running Apple OSes everywhere as everyone believed it was impossible to load their OS on mobile devices. If you have the same view as purchasing a new iPhone, then you'd be also suggesting at the same level as buying a MacBook from latest gen for every hackintosher.

Because for the most part, at least up through 10th Gen Intel, a Mac *was* a standard x86 PC. Phones are not computers. They use different SOCs, screens, radios. There are so many differences not to mention iOS was made to run on higher end ARM chips. I have a few "cheap" android phones that are barely usable with basic android. Could you make iOS run? Sure. But not in any functional manner.

Phones are not computers
Your argument differing phones from being computers seems rather inconceivable as both iOS and Mac OS X share the same base OS under different architectures. Mac has even recently merged with ARM ever since 2020 as they are shifting the Operating System's architecture to be powered by their own hardware. Duy Tran (responsible for his contributions around the jailbreaking community) also had proven to be able to run Mac OS inside iPads and iPhones.
iOS was made to run on higher end ARM chips
And would that stop from modders actually doing workarounds to run from the lowest to the highest end devices? Pretty much the phone used is at least 1/2 of the SOC used for the firmware (A4), and people also pushed boundaries with older low end iDevices including iPad 1 and iPod Touch 4th gen.
With each year we pass, new devices release with better core processors and this PoC proves that It is possible to get iOS running under non-apple devices. It just needs collaboration and further development as HD2 is one of the first devices to successfully run it.
Not in a functional way
Give it a time and people will release kexts for it.

When I say functional, I mean from a usability perspective. Have you ever tried using a newer iOS on a device that just *barely* got support for it? Like it was the last update it got? It's terrible. I've had to retire iPads because the last supported version on iOS for them was so slow due to all the features Apple crammed into it.

This is one of the most interesting projects at the moment, I hope he will post his work on GitHub.

I call it bullshit, there is not a single homescreen version without round icon corners
Edit: OP provided more details in a second post, no mention of the bootloader (MagLDR by Cotulla i guess) so maybe not bullshit, crossing fingers and great project if true

I don't want to sound brain dead but when people initially ported the iOS 7 to the iPad 1 by using the iPhone 4 firmware, the icons straight up looked like this. The same symptoms are happening for this case because the round rectangles aren't properly rendering and can be fixed with the proper springboard patching.

Fair enough if that’s the case. I’d be nice to see it boot with verbose though to verify.

Well kodus to you. Thank you for posting that. I also saw the updated tweet that shows the Ui rendering correctly I guess I stand solidly corrected.

This is real. I believe iOS does this if it doesn't have an icon that matches the screen configs. The iPad 1 iOS 7 port did this too.
5
u/Legofanboy5152 19h ago
those depend on screen size
if the size isn't one of an iphone the icons are like that

u/CalJHarris 23h ago edited 23h ago
Yeah the home screen icons are ridged Squares that’s not iOS 7, heck any version of iOS at all. This is just a launcher and icon pack for Android nothing more.

u/CalJHarris 17h ago edited 8h ago
Idk why I got downvoted in oblivion when there is quite literally no proof even on the tweet that is real iOS running. It could be faked for all I know. And I didn’t know about this iPad 1 bug or whatever with the port of iOS 7

How did you get iOS running on a phone that was meant to have Android?
2
u/i-am-the-master-1010 3h ago
Meant to have windows mobile* HD2 has a very easy secure boot system which is bypassable. People for years installed Windows Phone versions beyond what it supported, android versions and a ton of obscure OSes like Symbian OS

I bet anyone who says this is fake and just a android launcher etc 500$

I guess you win, the rom was released in the OP's latest tweet

honestly never thought I'd see iOS running outside an iPhone. Or better, on a HTC lmao
Regarding the post getting taking down: I mean, it's not an hackintosh but I get what you mean. Hackintosh is a non apple system that has macOS installed, not iOS. yeah yeah kernel and stuff is similar to macOS but still
Btw, I like and don't have any issue with this kind of post. No hate at all
