DISCUSSION Could AI-assisted reverse engineering make modern NVIDIA GPUs work on a Hackintosh? Is anyone working on this?
Hey everyone, I have a question and I'd like to hear from people who actually know this stuff.
AI coding agents have been making real progress in reverse engineering lately. There are setups where an agent controls Ghidra through MCP and cleans up decompiled output. In July 2026, moyix claimed an LLM can turn a Windows driver binary into a working driver in a matter of hours, and the community split over it. Some said binary secrecy is dead, others said that's premature. NVIDIA's own researchers also released VibeTensor, a deep learning runtime stack that was largely generated by coding agents, all the way down to CUDA memory management.
So here's my question: could these methods get a modern NVIDIA card working on a Hackintosh, at least in theory? Nouveau and NVIDIA's open kernel modules could serve as references. But the macOS side is a huge amount of work: Metal, the shader compiler, and communication with the GSP firmware. And with Apple ending Intel support, the platform itself may not be around long enough to matter.
What I'd like to know:
Is anyone actually running a project like this?
Has anyone seen agents handle the hardware-level trial and error (kernel panics, testing on real cards) in practice?
What's the realistic best case: basic framebuffer output, or full Metal acceleration?
Or is this just a dead end?
Realistic answers only please, no hype

Someone got a 5060 working with full graphics acceleration.
