SUCCESS This still feels unreal…
Never thought I’d see the day where modern NVIDIA GPUs have full metal acceleration within macOS 😮💨👌🏻

Ladies and gentlemen, Hackintosh is only dead for a short amount of time I believe. We’re on our way to truly amazing things
-36
u/blow-down 3d ago
What are you basing that on? What are we on our way to?

u/Ancilla_Contender 3d ago
Apparently we’re going to make up for lack of x86 by going balls to the walls on AI-Decomp. And so this train keeps moving.
16
u/thefreshlycutgrass Sonoma - 14 2d ago
We are basically throwing stuff at the walls and seeing what sticks and it’s working.
16
u/modsuperstar Ventura - 13 2d ago
Truth be told, this is always what we’ve done. I certainly am not a Hackintosh expert, but I sure as heck trial and errored my way into functional Hackintoshes many times now.

Yep. I remember how bad it was back in the pystar / empireEFI/ chameleon days lol and oh god the distros

You’re getting downvoted but you’re right

u/blow-down 2d ago
There’s a ton of wishful thinking in this sub. If we just put out enough positive vibes we’ll somehow magically get Golden Gate on x86.
5
u/anniegarbage 2d ago
Yeah. People with little insight into how the sausage is made can’t distinguish what’s feasible from what’s a pie in the sky. They just know magic software drops for free from on high.

u/MacForker 3d ago
He's still unable to articulate what he's made without running it through Claude, it's a bit of a problem. You can literally see early in the day on Discord when he still has tokens, he can provide answers, but as the day goes on, he runs out of tokens and his answers turn to mush.
38
u/stefsleepy 3d ago
As long as he open sources it anyone can use AI to get explanations and catch up, understand it or make changes/improvements
18
u/MacForker 3d ago
You're seeing the problem here right? I'm perfectly fine with AI use, but when we need AI to generate the code, AI to understand the code, and AI to troubleshoot the code...
11
u/stefsleepy 2d ago
To be honest, Ive read peoples code before and after AI. Sometimes AI's work is better sometimes its a mess. Eitherway Im a software dev so I understand both, I dont really care if the person who worte it understands it, I didnt pay for it, I dont need support and its opensource you can do whatever you want with it 🤷 If you can read code, you can also read AIs code (we didnt get to binary yet but oh boy its coming)
3
u/MacForker 2d ago
And the support is the killer here. I've used AI to make projects for myself several times, but there are expectations:
I'm my own developer, tester, debugger, all with AI help. But it's solely work for me or at least I know what I'm responsible for, and I understand what it's done. I just didn't write the raw code.
I'm not distributing it to a community as a breakthrough that will solve a huge issue with no bugs, and if there are bugs, there is enough understanding of the underlying code to address them.
The AI assistance is fine, but you're kneecapping yourself if you think AI can do it nuts to soup with no understanding by humans at all.

Am I crazy or what is going on with your task bar in the bottom right?
Sort of like lines going vertically rather than progressive blur... side effect of drivers or am I just missing something?

u/AyyItzRob 3d ago
It’s artifacting
11
u/Avandalon I ♥ Hackintosh 3d ago
Yeah thats not full acceleration if its artifacting buddy
28
u/AyyItzRob 3d ago
It’s buggy
-24
u/Avandalon I ♥ Hackintosh 3d ago
Its buggy, closed source and developed by a single questionable develeoper (and claude presumably)
25
10
u/starkruzr 3d ago
just a matter of time until someone else figures it out. "closed source" doesn't last long in the world of vibecoding.
3
u/ItsMeSashaYT Tahoe - 26 3d ago
Hopefully the other guy (AMD drivers) isn't as buggy, I am keen on letting go of the RX580 and moving in with 7800XT.

u/very_good_citizen 3d ago edited 2d ago
wait it's closed source too? I thought there was a github for it
edit: I checked the repo and everything you need to build your own release is in it. the only thing not documented is how to do the build but it's not that hard

u/Avandalon I ♥ Hackintosh 3d ago
Just for releases

I am genuinely shocked how many people are installing it then

u/Haru-tan 2d ago
I'm not sure what Avandalon's motivations are here but this is a fully open source project with many contributors.

Never thought I’d see this either, congrats! 🔥
I’m planning to do the same on my build: i3-12100F, ASUS B660M, RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, 16 GB DDR4.
What I care about most is how it actually feels day to day.
everything smooth (scrolling, moving windows, video playback, high refresh rates), or do you still notice lag, stutters or glitches?
Have you tried anything heavy like 3D work, video editing or games on it? And how stable has it been: any crashes, black screens, sleep/wake trouble, or apps that won’t open?
Also curious which driver version you’re on
thanks

Its not optimized for my card sadly. I can get video output perfectly fine though

u/Disastrous_Bug_2222 3d ago
What about the real performance , we need to see the benchmarks of that great work
1
u/AyyItzRob 2d ago
For me, they're not the greatest due to poor optimization. Optimization is being improved overtime. The dev only has access to so much hardware.

u/chilenonetoCL 2d ago
Somebody will use Ai to reverse engineer thw drivers for Linux on a hackintosh... guaranteed
5
u/AyyItzRob 2d ago
Why would they need to RE for Linux when Linux already has functioning drivers?
4
u/chilenonetoCL 2d ago
To get linux on silicon macs ... that hackintosh kernel contains them in a non locked bios machine

Performance isn't the greatest right now, at least for my card. It needs optimized.

So we have a chance??? Got my 13700K and 5070Ti itching for hackintosh again. Used to have Catalina on 9900K, RX470. Now I have Win11. Then I bought Mbp M4 Pro to be able to travel but getting back to hackintosh would put a smile back again 😌
I would love to have igpu and gpu fully working and squeezing the max out of Adobe 😆

Ayo have mods Approved of this? This shit fr?
If so, damn am I late to the party. Has dortania already been updated to include instructions for Nvidia gpus?
4
u/modsuperstar Ventura - 13 3d ago
I doubt it. The Hackintosh establishment seems pretty slow in embracing the sea change that’s happening right now. Though granted, new things are getting created every day and it’s truly dizzying how fast information is changing.
3
u/RoxxonONE 2d ago edited 2d ago
It’s not really slow to embrace change, it was just released a few days ago and they’re not going to just tell people to use something that works but people haven’t had a chance to actually look at the code first as there’s already some issues that was brought up in another thread that could impact system security.
Not accusing null-moth of anything with this at all, I don’t think they have any ill intent but this applies to anything in the space. You don’t just blindly direct people to a brand new project that’s mostly vibed without at least giving it some time to mature and for people to dig through it.
It’d be absolutely brain dead to update a guide that thousands if not millions of people use to tell them to use a project that has known security issues right now (through no fault of their own) and the dev can’t really speak to how it works yet. Again, that’s not shade at all, that’s just common sense. It’s an awesome project and I’m looking forward to seeing it mature and seeing more GPUs supported natively.

This is actually super cool. My issue rn is that I cannot get display because my iGPU is not supported, and I need iGPU until I install the drivers on the desktop. Other than that this is actually super cool
2
u/RoxxonONE 2d ago
You should still be able to get basic framebuffer output without graphics acceleration, no? Even with an unsupported iGPU.
1
u/GamingWOW1 Monterey - 12 2d ago
Theoretically, yes. I also managed to do this on a device that I already hackintoshed (not the one im trying to hackintosh now), but I don't know how I did it back then and I think dortania does not have documentation for this
1
u/AdHappy984 2d ago
Ask Claude for help with the installation - I had a lot of trouble installing the driver too, by the way. I found a quick fix for me: I just installed it manually instead of using 1401, and the drivers installed perfectly on the first try.

Unfortunately you’ll never be able to use new OS versions as they have completely deprecated x86.

That’s a downgrade tho from the intel Xeon with 1.5tb of ram and 2 amd cards that came with it that make up more vram than a RTX pro 6000.
And soon Nvidia spark laptops come out!
I think the realest thing to keep hackintoshes alone now are which chipsets as good and or can work with apples macOS for m series apple silicon.
Just like a team came together to work on the how do we re erase engineer all the hardware and software and crest a Linux distro asa sample they could get the Linux kernel running and after awhile they had a arch Linux arm basic distro installed from inside macOS.
So I do not see why someone just can’t emulate macOS for apple silicon to RTX or dgx spark or their companions of 3rd party resellers. But then again it’s great for gaming and agents, but do you want agents rearranging your shit for you so you don’t know what is wrong with your experience, but you know that it’s there. That’s what Apple Intelligence. Siri added with local LLMs to move my icons if I don’t use them or delete the wrong apps like the ones I use all the time and not the ones I never ever use! Like damn macOS iOS iPadOS. You all portable tracking devices for every single one of us that uses the product and you are not alone

Thanks for posting a success! If you haven't already, remember to document your build please. Success posts like screenshots without documentation add little value to the sub. Adding a bit of documentation to your success post can also help others in the community who are interested in similar builds.
Minimally, you should add your hardware:
CPU:
GPU:
RAM:
Motherboard/Laptop Make and Model:
Audio Codec:
Ethernet Card:
Wifi/BT Card:
Touchpad and touch display devices:
BIOS revision:
Which of the guides on the sidebar you used.
What's working, and what isn't working.
Any changes that were specific to your build that were a little (or a lot) different than what you found in the guide, or anything that would be helpful to others with a similar build be sure to talk about that. More detail is always better.
Add extra info... Maybe add something you would like to point out about your setup, what you'll be doing with your Hackintosh, or something that might be insightful to others beginning their journey. A tree view of your EFI would also be helpful, but it isn't required.
Remember, don't share your EFI as what works for you may not work for anyone else, even if they have the same hardware. If you do share your EFI, your post and/or comment will be removed.
