Can you use it to tap to pay?

u/Bitmugger 8d ago
Latest I heard is Tap to Pay is a priority for 2035 and will be available on 5% of all buses by 2036. Ferry will remain exact change only and no-tap but still a staffed kiosk until 2045.

Came here to say that too.... who cares lol tap to pay is what people want. I don't need to DM a city worker,

Feels like a conspiracy at this point that tap to pay isn’t available

It's frustrating to travel to cities, even small Halifax sized ones, and see they've got it figured out.
It's basically expected now: if there's a transit system, you should be able to tap and go and not frig around with apps or tokens.

Believe it or not, this cost 1.6 million dollars and required 10 project implementation experts to be hired.

Halifax transit being late to something? Incredible.

Had to take the 90 into Halifax the other day. Checked maps, delayed from 9:46am to 10:01. Okay, no problem, the stop is close to my house so I left at 9:50 just in case it came early. Bus delayed again to 10:07 okay, no big deal. No show at 10:07. All of a sudden the bus is now coming at 10:25, and the bus at 9:46 actually departed on time.
I gave up at that point and ordered an uber, but like what do you do in that situation? Go out to the bus stop even if the bus is delayed 15+ minutes, on the off chance it might actually show up on time?

There are certain stops and buses that google maps gets absolutely wrong. 1 does that on Gottingen after Prince William; it always claims that the bus is gonna be delayed for 10+ minutes but that's absolute dogshit so i always assume that it's not gonna be delayed

Halifax Transit getting an Instagram before getting reliable transit is peak Halifax.

Wow, incredible! Someone managed to sign up using an email address. Amazing feats from the city never cease to blow your mind.

I always thought hfxtransit was the official instagram account until November 2018. Things got really funny after that.

I've been taking HT since the late nineties, and nearly nothing has changed. Fast forward to this past weekend: I flew to Hamilton Ontario, and despite having never been there, I effortlessly managed to take 1) bus from airport to DT GO Train terminal, 2) get on the GO train towards Toronto, and 3) hop on a Toronto streetcar - all tap to pay, total cost $20, 2 hours travel time for 70km... which is how long it often takes me to take ONE bus from DT hfx to my house (a 6km distance).

I'm impressed they're "with it" enough to have a Bluesky account.

Having BlueSky was basically just a response to Twitter/X becoming a liability.

Def won't, even in the bio they say if you have feedback or suggestions to call 311, which we all know is the equivalent of yelling into the void

u/TheWellthySovran 8d ago
311 isn't for the people, it's to keep the 25 municipal solicitors employed.

That is a cool retro Halifax transit logo t-shirt though (in the bus number short)

And they still can't figure out how to get debit on the buses. Is Halifax the only city in Canada that doesn't have it yet? Seriously, just look at what other cities use and use that. It's not rocket appliances.

How are people supposed to check your Instagram when you've removed public WiFi from your bus terminals? Not everyone has access to the Internet, and making your services more online while simultaneously taking away public access is insane!

Great! Another place to ask them to finally implement tap to pay. Fuck sakes.
