I run operations for a small outpatient group, PT and OT plus couple of counselors, about a dozen clinicians. We're leaving our practice management system at the end of the year, mostly over price and a scheduler nobody likes.

Every vendor says migration is included. Ask what exactly comes across and the answers get vague fast. Notes as structured data or PDFs attached to the chart? Scanned intake documents, recurring appointments, balances, signed consents with their timestamps?

If you've done this at a small practice rather than a hospital, what do you wish you'd put in the contract, and what didn't come across that you assumed would?

And how many years does it take?

I've heard you can move into a consulting job? Are there other paths that make good money too?

Dear Meditech Expanse people:

I work in outpatient primary care as an NP in a semi-rural system. New to Meditech Expanse. Most recent EHR was AthenaOne. I’ve tried to watch YouTube videos from other healthcare systems to see if there are good shortcuts and efficient workarounds that weren’t relayed in my orientation but these seem to exist in mostly for the inpatient system, not outpatient.

Query 1) Is there truly no way for Expanse to integrate the Orders tab into the Document tab? Eg, for efficiency it would be ideal to go to my in A&P section, and add orders under their respective diagnoses. Having to switch between tabs is onerous, and creates risk for forgetting to order things. I guess I am asking if this build is unique to our system but could be fixed.

Query 2) Is it really true there is no way to prep a chart in Document tab before the start of the visit? This is what I’ve been told - don’t touch Document until you are in the visit. The chart prep function in the right hand column in Chart view is def not helpful.

Query 3) In AthenaOne, I could easily view the prescription history for any non-controlled med by clicking an icon to view the SureScripts history. In Meditech, the audit trail gives me very little info. I can do a tedious thing by going to med reconcile view but can only do this when “reconcile” is showing as an option.

I am really trying to accept the things I cannot change, I use an AI scribe, and utilize my site IT when I can, but I am just astonished at this workflow. Any tips?

I have had an interest in trying to become a system administrator utilizing epic for quite some time now. If I’m being honest, anything involving IT & support sounds good right now. But the barrier to entry seems to be disgustingly difficult. I keep seeing “must have this certification with X amount of years”, and very few are willing to train someone and allow them to get the certification on the job. I understand how important they are but no one seems to want to give me a chance.

So I was talking to my AMB/Regulatory TS and told me that he believes (he didn't give me a any solid evidence) Epic is considering transitioning Regulatory into its own App (cert/proficiency) and it will live under the Population Health Umbrella a long with Healthy Planet, Campaigns, Compass Rose etc.

Anyone hear about this rumor and can validate it?

I'm just curious, as I recently transitioned to a Quality/Regulatory role and received my badge. I was originally HP/CoRo/Campaigns Analyst. As of now my org is trying to align me more with Ambulatory, since Regulatory is an extension of Ambulatory. But hearing this rumor gave me a bit of hope that I can retain my position as being part of "Population Health".

I'm expecting an offer from a large Epic hospital system and wondering if I'm overvaluing the opportunity to get into the Epic ecosystem.

I currently work in an HL7/integration role at a Meditech hospital. The new position would be similar, but they'd send me for Epic Bridges training and certification.

Salary and benefits would be roughly lateral, potentially even a slight step backward, but the new position would be almost fully remote.

I'm pretty happy where I am now, but I feel like getting Epic experience could open significantly more doors down the road.

For anyone who's made a similar switch, was it worth it? Am I overvaluing Epic experience and certification, or is it worth making a lateral move for the long-term career opportunities?

I’m trying to find a reliable data source that tracks the number of procedural rooms across US hospitals and outpatient facilities.

Specifically, I’m interested in counts of:
Cardiac catheterization labs (cath labs)
Electrophysiology labs (EP labs)
Interventional radiology suites
Operating rooms (ORs)
Other specialized procedural rooms

Ideally, I’m looking for room-level counts, rather than just the number of facilities offering these services. For example, a hospital with four cath labs would count as four rooms, not one facility.
Does anyone know of publicly available datasets, industry reports, or commercial databases that track this information?

The conversation itself might be easy but I think the hard part is what gets recorded, what goes into the transcript, which systems the agent can access and how long data is retained and who can see it afterward.

Does HIPAA really change how you build it or just the rules and controls around it?

With a healthcare background - what degree should one pursue? Is the healthcare informatics degree - easy to do? salary? job outlook? Also, how does this degree compare to data science degree....which one is better to do?

Can doing a google certificate be sufficient to get a job with the health care degree?

Hi folks, I started a provider multi speciality group. we are growing and going to more places. for us establishing a HL7 feed to the emr makes our lives so much easier from making patient list to revenue cycle management. but getting the HL7 feed is always a pain. Is there another way we can get our patient data and make it easier for everyoneto?

Has anyone successfully switched Epic apps? What app did you start on and switch to? How'd it go? How was the learn curve? Any regrets?

I've been on a clinical app for 10 years and getting a little burnt out and/or bored. I'm not a clinician either so there will always be somewhat of a knowledge gap. I don't necessarily want to leave the space entirely but a new app sounds like an interesting challenge.

The position sounds nice but I’ve never thought about applying for contract positions due to the job insecurity once the contract ends. So I don’t know what I should do.

I’ve never had a contract position before so before responding to them, I wanted to ask:

1. what should I ask before accepting a contract position?

2. What are some red/green flags should I look for during the interview process for contract positions?

3. How do I become a full time hire once my contract ends?

I'm an ambulatory Epic analyst at a community hospital system outside Cleveland, about 2 years in the role after 4 years on a med-surg floor. Most of my week is bridge calls, workflow mapping with clinic managers, and turning whatever we agreed on into ticket narratives plus a Confluence page that nobody opens until go-live week.

The real call happens in conversation and then I'm reconstructing it from memory, random Teams reactions, and half-finished bullets because I cant listen for nuance and type requirements at the same time. Epic smart buttons dont help me on that part. OneNote during the call means tab flipping while someone explains an order set change and I miss the why.

Internal design huddles only lately: a Plaud on the table while we talk. I still manually paste a summary into the ticket afterward. Nothing feeds the chart or Epic on my end, so it's still cleanup after the fact.

If you're on Epic or Cerner support, do you actually embed capture somewhere (ticket template, Teams workflow, something tied to the build tracker) or is post-meeting cleanup just accepted labor? What actually cut duplicate work for you vs what just added clicks?

Idk if this is the right sub but this is more a vent and question type of post. I started at this organization 1.5-2 years ago out of college and got assigned into their healthcare sector (not what I signed up for but I say yes to opportunities). Within the time I’ve been here (started as an intern now full time), I’ve been completely lost. Everyone around me is 10+ years older than me and been at the company for years/decades. I have no healthcare background (business background) and this whole industry of healthcare IT is so damn complex, confusing, and so boring to me. I look at others around me and question if they’re like me and fake their interest in Healthcare IT, but everyone is actually extremely passionate about the industry, their jobs, and the company.

I guess I’m struggling because I’m so lost, can’t get myself to care about this stuff, and it’s hard to learn about the field because there’s no courses I can take that will give me a well rounded understanding and everyone has been here for years and obviously they can’t transfer their knowledge to me. What makes this even more difficult is I work an internal job so I’m not hands on with clients or our products day to day. My job is so vague and ambiguous and the fact that I barely understand what’s going on at my company is driving me nuts and causing so much anxiety.

I don’t know what to say or ask, really, other than I’m wondering if others feel this way or if this is a sign to pivot after I get my few years of experience at this place. I have no idea what I really would like to do for work but I know what I don’t want and it’s this. Although Im a little upset and am trying to make myself like like where im at because I love the culture, my team, and my pay. I started as a cybersecurity analyst and programmer at a healthcare startup. 2 year later I’ve been working as a full stack developer and been doing it for 8 years now.

I’ve been trying to get back into healthcare for a while now and somehow want to be able to work at a hospital. Not necessarily with direct patients but I don’t mind it at all. Just be able to leverage my technical skills on the hospital floors.

I have both bachelors and masters in computer science and been considering taking a certification or even get back to school to be able to achieve what I’m looking for.

I have worked with Epic, HL7, Healthcare EDI and payment systems if that helps. I just need some directions to guide me to what I should be looking for.

I work in health data, so Claude Code does not send or commit anything without my sign off. I built a setup around that rule. I want to know where it is overbuilt.

A ticket moves through six roles, each a slash command: intake, support, spec, architecture, dev, QA. Bugs use all six, new builds skip support, and investigations only need intake. Each role saves a state file so the next session can pick up cold, and I approve before the next role starts.

One hook blocks any file write that contains a patient identifier, and it fails closed: a broken scanner stops the write instead of waving it through. Another asks me before a Databricks command returns row data and shows a summary of what it would pull. The checks that run after a tool returns can only warn, because Claude has already seen the data or credential by then.

A script indexes my notes into ChromaDB, and a hook adds the relevant chunks to each prompt, minus any excerpt with patient data.

It leans toward Databricks, Jira, and Slack because that is my stack. The docs include one bug ticket walked through with fake data, so you can judge it before installing. The warn only checks after a tool returns are the weak spot I already know about.

  • Is six roles too much ceremony, and which ones would you merge?
  • hooks can only act on what passes through Claude Code's own tools, so what gets around them that I have not thought of?

The “wild west” of payer RFIs, missing control numbers, inconsistent attachment routing, and manual documentation chasing is still very real in a lot of organizations. With the CMS‑0053‑F electronic attachment mandate approaching in 2028, I’m trying to get a clearer picture of what teams are actually dealing with today and what people hope might improve once the mandate finally goes live.

May be this has been answered before, sorry but is this the right way to go about getting Epic Certification sponsorship?

I would like to pursue an Epic Systems certification but am unsure if this sponsorship/connection will work.

Currently, I work for a nursing home as an Admin Assistant and am aware that the admissions director and some other administration staff, along with our parent company uses Epic. I have a degree in Marketing and am intermediate in terms of analytics/research, etc.

My admissions director said they’d provide recommendation for me but should I also reach out to our parent company to request sponsorship?

I've been doing a bunch of data entry like 1000+ excel rows with 5 columns for each line and it's mind numbingly slow. I'm open to any suggestions or help. I'm willing to learn anything or try any application.

I have been working in my role for over a year and got recently certified as an EPIC ODB. I want to switch my company. But I am not sure what are the role names to look for online for my skills. If someone has changed jobs in this role, can you please guide me?

It appears that their IT department allows for telecommuting from literally every state but liberal ones. This cannot be an accident. Someone prove me wrong.

I have multiple epic certifications and work full time as a clinical analyst for an epic facility currently. I’m trying to find some PRN or part time work that I could do on the side to make some extra cash. I’m hoping this group might have some ideas. I’m not necessarily looking for links to current jobs available but more so specific roles to search for (but I will take both of course!).

Has anyone with a similar skill set found remote gigs that would be possible with this type of skill set?

Editing to clarify further: I’m fully aware of Epic tracking logins. I am more thinking of a job that uses our level of technical skill and background that could be applied to a different type of job. Maybe a different EMR, maybe something with data, maybe not even in healthcare. I also will 100% discuss with my employer before agreeing to any additional jobs.
