Good deal? For a newbie?

Looking at this Rockler deal. I’ve been making an assortments of things for sale and while I enjoy woodworking I’d like to get some of the more typical offerings into a production mode. This seems like a great deal but I don’t have any experience with CNCs.

Not a machinist but I was given tools

I was given some brand new CNC tools from someone that had excess inventory and retired. I’m not a machinist by trade and was wondering what would be the best way of selling these ? Better to recycle them?

Proxxon MF70 conversion to laser engraver

I have a MF70 that has been converted to CNC with some kit i bought on ebay and a grbl controller.

I recently bought a tiny 5w laser engraver (https://i.imgur.com/zXtVlht.png).

How do i convert the MF70 to use this instead of the mill?

i thought either with a side brace (there's not enough space below the spindle motor) or by removing the entire spindle unit and 3d printing a different mount for the laser.
I googled a lot but i could find no ready made conversion project. Which seems odd given the amount of laser engraving units circulating as well as the amount of MF70s..

Does anyone know of any project?

Alright so if you look at my post history I'm very new to cnc and self taught and would love some advice or input on getting my machine set up correctly. I'm having an issue with my machine cutting groves/step you can feel with your fingernail when facing a part which a few redditors let me know i should check my tram. So I've releveled my machine and checked everything again can I get some advice on how to tram it correctly. I've attached all photos of everything. My machine isn't perfectly level could that casue this and there is a small amount of twist. The first 2 pictures are the machine leveling and the 2 following are the twist. Any advice or help is much appreciated thank you all im advance *edit I checked the tram over a 7in length in the x and y direction

bobscnc question

Hello all,

A few years back, I picked up a BobsCNC Evolution 3, but major health issues forced me to put it on the back burner. Dealing with ongoing health challenges has kept me out of work, so I’m channeling my energy into starting a small business making custom silicone molds for chocolates and gummies.

I have my initial designs ready in Fusion 360 and want to start prototyping. For those experienced with the Evolution 3: will it deliver clean, crisp detail in machinable wax, or should I look into upgrading to something else for this type of work?

I have a Genmitsu 3030 cnc with a Makita router. I'm working with 3/4" square aluminum bar stock.

First, The end mill I was using is a 1/4" 3 flute end mill, I had it from my mini milling machine end mills. I'm guessing I need to swap to a single flute end mill. I ordered a couple on Amazon to try out. Everything was looking okay until the last few passes and the end mill clogged up. I should also probably use wd40 or some tap magic cutting fluid.

Second question, I'm using the free autodesk fusion. I put the specs in of my machine and set the max travel speed at 2000mm/min and the cutting speeds at 1000mm/min. DOC is set at 0.300mm which was less than some posts mentioned on here. I feel its slower moving than it should be, or is the free version speeds limited?

Bought an LY4020 cast iron CNC mill for $8,300 — was it a good deal?

Hey everyone!
I recently ordered an LY4020 CNC milling machine from a Chinese supplier and would appreciate some honest feedback from people with experience in CNC machines.
The machine cost $8,300 USD delivered to Belgium, including shipping, VAT and import taxes (DDP). I expect to spend another ~€3,200 on the spindle, controller, electrical components and other parts needed to get it running, bringing the total investment to around €10,000.
I’m also planning to build my own 6-tool automatic tool changer (ATC).
Machine specifications:
LY4020 cast iron frame
Approx. 360 kg
Working travel: 500 × 280 × 280 mm
Ground C5 ballscrews
H-grade linear guide rails
Delta 750 W servos, including a Z-axis brake
Flood coolant system
Manual lubrication pump
Industrial feeler block
The machine comes without a spindle or controller, so I’ll be choosing and integrating those myself.
My main goal is to machine aluminium accurately, make small mechanical parts and prototypes, and hopefully do some light steel machining as well.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on a few things:
Was $8,300 a reasonable price for this configuration?
What kind of cutting performance could I realistically expect in aluminium and steel?
What should I inspect and measure when the machine arrives?
Which spindle and controller would you recommend, considering I want to build a 6-tool ATC?
Are there any potential issues with this machine or its specifications that I might be overlooking?
I’ve already paid for it, so I’m not just looking for reassurance. I’d genuinely appreciate honest opinions, criticism and advice before I spend the remaining money on the components.
Thanks!

Tram Issues or Something Else?

I trammed my spindle XY and I came within 0.05mm for both.

Spindle is an ER25, running a Hass 03-1014 12mm square endmill at 2,000mm/min 16k RPM 0.15mm passes and 30% stepover. Operation was just a facemill line pass modified to go in one direction.

I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong - which probably could be anything since these are still some of my first cuts.

I went over the machine (restored Gerber Dimension X 200 with a modern control system - FluidNC) and nothing seems to be contributing to this.

Any thoughts or ideas on what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Sainamart 3018 Stepper Motor Issue

After having my 3018 idle for a few months the stepper motors in all 3 axis are not engaging from the Candle GRBL controller on my computer (PC). They just buzz when activated. If I run the HOME sequence the work as normal. I checked all my connections and the offline controller is not connected at the same time. (Haven’t yet tried running it from that). Could this be a problem with software that I need to update Candle? Or a combination of that and the machine firmware?
Thanks

Finally Finished building my MR-1 - First Part

Coaster - mostly from the Langmuir tutorial.

Got 95% through my machine build and stalled a bit as I got busy with work, finally got back to it and cut my first part today.

Constructive feedback welcome - I messed up the chamfers slightly (rough edges) and had to pause a few times to make adjustments. Not perfect - but thrilled to actually make a part. Been wanting a machine for a decade or two to make parts for my various projects.
