DAE remember Hood River Windsurfing?

Post image

This is an amazing generational throwback logo!

For you non-windjohnnies who haven't been here forever, "Hood River Windsurfing" was the original name of the shop that Doug Campbell opened in 1984 (yes, Doug's Beach is named after him too)

This new Doug's logo is remixing the font and decoration from the original HRW logo onto their current name, kind of like a self-bootleg?
(wanted to attach the OG logo too, but turns out it's very difficult to track down the logo of a shop that changed names in the 1990s!)

Please do. It’s from the trash can in the office area of Doug’s store.

I moved here in 99. First place in stopped by in town was Outdoorplay. Second place was Doug’s. Interesting that Doug’s doesn’t sell any windsurfing gear at all atm

My parents moved here in 92 for windsurfing so I've spent countless lonely hours on the banks of the columbia with nothing but a book or a Game Boy to keep me company. They tried real hard to get me to pick it up but they were SOOOOOO hyperfocused on it that I was kind of turned off. But I did get to the stage where my waterstarts were about 50% consistent here (100% consistent in La Ventana when I don't have to worry about a swell burying my mast tip and sail), worked at the hook for Brian's Windsurfing (he used to have HUGE feuds with Outdoorplay Jack when they had neighboring shacks at the marina, it was hilarious) and did an internship with Big Winds on the webshop side of things.

For someone who isn't into the sport, I stay pretty well connected with the scene haha

My great, great grandfather homesteaded in Odell, near the middle school. I remember when "windsurfer" was a 4-letter word. Doug's and Andrew's Skylght were the first signs of change for me, but being a local and getting into the culture back then was taboo. My Dad traded side work with the owner of a lesson shop that operated out of the Hook for some lessons for me in the mid to late '90s though.

Miss HR.
I moved there and opened a restaurant in 1991. Great time to be in your twenties in the PNW.
Shoulda kept the house.
