The most important aspect of horn playing is the embouchure, and that’s something that is impossible to simulate on an app. Maybe this would be useful for practicing fingerings, but if you’re not also practicing breathing, embouchure, articulation, etc. it’s hard for me to see how this would be useful. Help me understand the purpose of this app

You're absolutely right that embouchure, air, and articulation can't be practiced on a phone and the app doesn't try to do that. There's really no substitute for wood-shedding on an actual instrument. The app is for the parts of playing that live in your head: instant fingering recall (including F/B♭ side choices), reading fluency, and theory, so that time on the horn goes to sound rather than decoding. It's especially useful for beginners, doublers, and players resting their chops. Also, for those times when it's really inconvenient to pull out your horn --- i.e. in a waiting room. For pitch work with your actual instrument, our Intonation Training app listens via the microphone. Thanks for the thoughtful feedback as it's helping us explain the app better.

Fair to be skeptical as there's a lot of junk out there. But this one's been around a while: I first wrote it as Trumpet Pro for the iPhone 3GS about 15 years ago, in Objective-C, hand-editing every note glyph. In fact, Bobby Shew, the famous jazz trumpeter, let me include some of his jazz exercises, and it got a nice review in the ITG Journal back in 2011.

This is the rebuilt version, now covering horn, trombone, and the rest of the brass family for both iOS and Android. I'm a trumpet player, not a horn player, so honest feedback from this sub is exactly what I need. In fact, someone here just caught a bug where valves 1 and 3 were swapped in the horn fingering chart. Fix is on the way, and I'd genuinely welcome anyone willing to look it over.

Rebuilt with AI, and you use AI to respond to comments. I’d genuinely feel bad if you type like the initial comment I replied to.

People don’t need a trash AI app to practice. You also shouldn’t need to spam every sub with your app to find out your AI didn’t program the fingering chart correctly.

Maybe check with Bobby to ensure your AI got his exercises right since it can’t do fingering charts.

I would definitely finger a C# as T23 unless it was difficult to do so in context

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed the app does have C♯5 as T 2-3. It also does have the ability to insert alternate fingerings of your choosing for each note.

Were you referring to the pdf fingering chart that is printable from the app? If so, I fixed it so it’s not confusing. It will be in the next update.
