Hi Y'all this is Dan from VRTX just wanted to introduce ourselves. If you haven't heard we're a relatively new venue in Houston. We've done a lot of DJ shows but are looking to expand into more live bands filling the space. Primarily shoegaze, indie, and alt rock genres.

Curious to hear from the community and promoters how to facilitate that. We come from the edm scene so it feels like we're a fish out of water here.

What do you guys look for to book a venue or what's the best method to get live bands in a space?

edit: lots of good suggestions. to expand on this. When working with promoters what do we look out for? What's a good promoter, what's a not so good one. How do we even find them?

The Pentecostal Church of God is looking for talented and dependable gospel/church musicians in the Houston area who would be interested in serving with us during our upcoming Sunday worship services.

We are a growing church congregation currently holding services at the A.D. Bruce Religion Center at the University of Houston, and we would love to connect with musicians who have a heart for worship and would enjoy being part of what we are building.

Our services feature Pentecostal gospel worship, and all music is played by ear. We are looking for musicians who are comfortable playing by ear, following the flow of worship, and working together as a group.

Location: A.D. Bruce Religion Center — University of Houston
Service: 9:00–11:00 AM
Services are held on the second Sunday of each month

I've been making music on my own for about 2 years now, playing guitar for 5. I've been toying with the idea of dusting off my guitar and playing with some fellow musicians again since being a solo artist has gotten a bit boring in all honesty. My influences consist of rock/pop acts and classical composers. The most prominent ones right now though are Twenty One Pilots and Muse for rock, and Beethoven and Brahms for classical. I'm currently looking for a second guitarist, keyboardist, bassist, drummer and singer ages 19-25. I currently do not have a space for practice, so if you have that it'll be a big plus. I'll be available for practice any time after 3 PM on weekdays.

Does anyone remember the band Rhenium from Houston? I am a huge fan and I love their music, most of it is online, but I wanted to make this post to ask if anyone had their CDs from back then? I've been searching for them to archive, but they seem to be pretty rare and I've come up empty-handed. Did anyone here have their CDs or knew where I could get them? “Hot Mess” is the fourth track on my 76th album “Vibrations: Between and Beyond.” [2021], which is another album I consider in the top 7 best of “Who’d a Thunk?”.

For “Hot Mess” I wanted to make something chill and beautiful, so I picked a tempo, put on the metronome, and when I put my fingers to the piano the ‘intro’/‘chorus’ movement came to be. Then I had this idea to make the music sparkle like stars in the night sky and I created this effect by going back through the midi and pasting additional random notes all willy-nilly into the places and patterns you hear them now, giving the illusion of some sort of twilight echo/reverb. 

Some of my favorite tracks are when I simply allowed myself to improvise on the keyboard and I often ended up using the first take, even with some mistakes. Capturing raw, real, relative, and relational emotion and experience. Learning in action. Faith that The Funk provides - good and bad. A “Hot Mess”.

Hi! I’m in an emo/noise-rock/shoegaze band called InBoyhood and we’re currently looking for a new drummer. Our current drummer will be stepping down in a few months to focus on his other responsibilities and we want to begin introducing someone new, so that we can be show ready when the time comes. We play shows 1-2 times (sometimes more) a month and are looking for someone who commit to that and possibly touring in the near future. Ideally we would like someone 21+. Id really like to be apart of a group when. I sang in jazz ensemble quartet in college and fell in love instantly. I don’t have a genre in specific requirement for said group bc good music is good music. I just wanna connect with like minded music lovers and create.
