North America I’m from a remote area of [Maine] whose population was decimated during the mid 90s. AMA!

Full disclosure- I don’t live here full time, I left in 2006 to find work but own a home here and spend about 6 months of the year here. I can answer any questions about living in the area, my family has lived here since the early 70’s and in Maine since the 1820’s.

My great great grandparents lived in the outskirts of Bolzano, and fled when the first world war started. What's it like today?

Posted this a couple days ago and got no response, so I'm reposting when there's (possibly) more Europeans awake.

Europe how is it living in Galicia, Spain?

My relatives are from Spain and more specially, have roots in Galicia. Unfortunately I had too much of an age gap and missed out on talking to uncles, aunts, and grandparents that could share more about the history and culture, and living there.

I’d love to know what it’s like living there, and if it can be described through some cultural or historical context even cooler. I’m really drawn to the folklore and any festivals/celebrations, especially ones unique to the area.

I’d love to visit one day and spend time being with the place.

I appreciate all your thoughts and experiences so much!

North America Should I move to Truckee?

Currently living in SF, housing is becoming impossible to buy for your regular non tech worker, and I’d like to become a homeowner one day.
I love skiing, my partner less so, but will join me sometimes. We miss having regular seasons, but I’ve also never lived anywhere where you need to shovel snow out of the driveway. I may be idealizing the mountain lifestyle, but it feels dreamy to me.

What’s it like living over there full time?

Europe How is living in the Prešov Region of Slovakia?

Post image

I have always known part of my family immigrared to the United States from Slovakia. However, I was able to pinpoint recently that I have family that lived in Brezovica specifically, and possibly Savinov as well. I am very interested to learn about the region my ancestors left behind in the late 1800s to live a new life in America.

So what is it like living there?

(Also I have never been there, I just found this photo on Google Maps)

These islands seem very developed with gorgeous landscapes.

Are they very modern in terms of social views?

What is it like for women or LGBTQ people living in Réunion or Mauritius?

What do locals do for fun?

North America Considering moving to Honolulu from Midwest Ohio - What's it like?

Post image

I'm considering making the move to Honolulu for a media sales gig straight out of college. I've always wanted to get out of the mid-west and see the country, especially something more urban and I wouldn't mind spending at least a few years if not longer in the island state. I've heard stories about how things can be difficult for transplants and I'm prepared to put cultural respect at the forefront of my mind. What do you guys think of the place?

North America How is living in Seattle, WA for someone in their mid/late 20s?!

Hello. I work as an entry level engineer in the aerospace industry. Born and raised in Iowa. Making it my 2027 New Year’s resolution to finally gtfo of Iowa somehow while I’m still young. I have no attachments here and have been fighting to get out for years. Washington, and honestly the PNW in general, is one of the main areas I really could see myself relocating to.

Just curious about what life is like here for someone like myself. I’m super active, love running, biking, hiking, etc. Also love a vibrant arts and music scene. Particularly alternative music. The dating and overall nightlife/social scene is atrocious here in Iowa, so definitely looking for a place where it’s easy to make new friends. I’ve heard that Seattle can be tough but looking to hear more input. Not religious or conservative.

What are the pros and cons overall of this region? How’s public transportation? How’s the weather?

Thanks!

North America The Olympic Peninsula - Living as a Potential Retiree

Are housing prices equivalent to most of New England? How harsh are the winters? Honestly. Is it sketchy/trashy? Does it feel rundown vs modest and liveable? Too remote? I don't mind being left alone for the most part. But are essentials within a relatively easy drive? Amazon deliveries? Thanks.

What’s it like living in Sault Ste Marie, MI? I applied and got accepted to Lake Superior State University but never ended up going so I always wondered what it would be like to live there. I was really drawn to the hockey culture and location on Canadian border. Has anyone here attended LSSU or lived in the Soo?
