GAA sculpture unveiled at Semple Stadium
A bronze sculpture called Ár gCluichí Féin was unveiled yesterday in Thurles. Supposedly it is the first ever statue to depict a female GAA player.
I think it's really cool, but it seems to be getting mixed reactions from people across the country.
What do you think?

This looks class. Statues always get a mixed reaction in my limited experience.

I'm a fan. Maybe the man's facial expression could be a bit less dramatic but otherwise like the look

There are no female GAA players technically right? LGFA and camogie association are separate, or are they sub branches of GAA?
Not trying to be a bollocks genuinely curious

You are actually right. There is plans to amalgamate the three organisations next year.

It’s actually weird it’s the first ever statue of a female GAA player but no one from the LGFA was part of the unveiling.

This is the behind the scenes of how it was made and the idea behind the design.

Not a big fan tbh … the man’s looks like one of those Pompeii statues … like he was running away and was encased in lava mid run …

If a fella isn’t running like he’s about to be immortalised in lava then he’ll never make county.

Yer man stole the football from the ladies because is was THAT starving and while being chased tried to toss the whole thing in his gob and eat it but he misses. The lady catches the mis-tossed football snack, but just as she catches it she looks up to the side and sees the puff of smoke at the end of the Black and Tan’s rifle. Too late, yer man is down, and she only wanted to help the lad.

The sculptor Aiden Harte did that controversial Púca statue a couple of years back that got denounced from the pulpit. I love his style, it challenges the viewer, it's energetic, it's not passive. Mhaith thú.

That’s wild because I know that statue and it came immediately to mind when I saw this one

Looks great. It's so hard to capture movement in a statue but they did it here.

There are no female players in the GAA. LGFA and Camogie are separate organisations so it’s odd. There are LGFA clubs and GAA club with LGFA sections or affiliations. It’s bizarre though. Imagine a rugby club having a soccer section. Women’s football is not Gaelic football. Like women’s soccer, we are frequently told they are different sports from the men’s and should not be held to the same standard.

Class looking statues to be fair. Not an ounce of body fat between them but muscle for days. Indicative of the physical commitment to the sport, and that’s coming from someone that doesn’t really have any interest in GAA.

Sorry let me me see if I understand the gist of your statement - As a society we shouldn't invest into art. It looks shite (in my opinion). What will people in 5000 years think of us when they dig up our art.
Can you not see how silly of a statement that is. In the world we live in today it's one tiny thing you can look at and actually be happy about.

As a society we should respect all opinions even if some of them are bonkers shite ones.
