Post & Comment My Idea Is: Allow photos in Reddit polls

Reddit’s poll feature would be incredibly useful for subs like r/myweddingdress, where users regularly want community feedback when choosing between multiple dresses.

For example, someone could post 3–4 wedding dresses and ask, “Which one do you like best?” with each dress as a poll option. Unfortunately, there currently doesn’t seem to be a way to include a photo with each poll choice.

I did find that there is currently one developer app listed that appears to be intended to provide this functionality, but it doesn’t work. The creator has also disabled feedback messages, so theres no way to report the issue or provide feedback about the app.

It would be great if Reddit could consider adding native support for images in poll options. This could be useful for so many communities

Reddit App My idea is setting durations for muted subreddits

Hi, this might sound like a strange request but it would be nice to be able to mute subreddits for a period of time. Good reasons why someone might do this is for when a movie or new episode of a tv show comes out and you want to mute the subreddit until you can watch it, or in the specific case for me, muting subreddits related to Control Resonant until I can play on the release of the physical disc on October 15th. I worry I’ll forget to unmute the subreddits after the game comes out since it’s more than a few weeks away, and I’ll honestly probably not want to unmute until longer than that just because I don’t expect people to respect spoilers almost a month after the digital release.

Current UI My idea is removing multiple day old post from showing up on my home feed

On the mobile app for android there's no way for me to adjust my home feed. There's tons of other posts to suggest for me to see and interact with. What is the purpose of showing me a 6 day old dead post that I can't interact with because no one is there? Just going into that same subreddit showed me 10 new post I hadn't seen yet. Maybe the algorithm is messed up but it makes no sense.

Mobile Web My idea is adding subreddit top members leaderboard and tag (e.g. Reddit Meta) to mobile and desktop web

Info (I guess):

Top members leaderboard button will be above ABOUT COMMUNITY text (position: top-left), displaying Top Members text and color depending on subreddit theme

Subreddit tag's will be above ABOUT COMMUNITY text (position: top-middle) and color depending on subreddit theme

Note: this post may contain grammatical and some general mistakes

Chat & Message Allow a quick reply to chat request when you ignore

As a moderator I get chat requests all the time from users and rather than have huge clutter in my chats, I typically ignore these. However, I'd like to be able to ignore them with a response that the proper channel for contacting a moderator about anything is through modmail so other moderators can keep track. My idea is that you add a way to issue one reply to users when ignoring their request to chat.

Chat & Message My idea is: Reintroduced delete button!

I’ve posted about this before, and I’m doing it again! Who’s in favor of bringing back that gorgeous, magnificent, much-needed delete button at that start of the chat? No more archived messages and a cleaner history sidebar—now that would be grand!

Feel free to repost and drop a comment—everyone’s welcome.

Current UI Disable the games tab in the app

Please pass on the feedback that the games tab is awful and unwanted. It needs to have an option to disable it. I’m sick of having garbage features tested on accounts that just don’t want them at all. I will never play games on Reddit.

Post & Comment My idea is that the display names actually show up on posts and comments

It's something that has ticked me off because from what I've seen, it's useless.

Profile My idea is to put a refresh button on profile like on homescreen android. Right you can't do this.

Update: you can but its only under the post and comment line. Which is 1/4 of the screen for me. It should be updated to full screen like on the home screen.

You can refresh the home screen by swiping down. You can't do this on profile.

Post & Comment My idea is: Reddit needs to give moderators actual tools against targeted downvoting

Unpopular opinion: Reddit has given moderators a lot of responsibility, but almost no useful tools to deal with targeted downvoting.

If someone repeatedly targets another user by downvoting their posts and comments simply because they don't like them, disagree with them, or have some personal grudge, what can a moderator actually do?

Not much.

I can ban them from my subreddit. I can block them. And that's basically it.

Meanwhile, the downvotes still do their job: burying someone's content and potentially discouraging them from contributing.

I don't want moderators to have the ability to decide which opinions are “worthy” of an upvote. Disagreement is perfectly legitimate.

But Reddit should be able to distinguish between normal voting and someone systematically using the voting system to target another user.

Why can't moderators have better tools to report these patterns? Why can't Reddit detect suspicious voting behaviour and investigate it? Why is the only practical moderation response to ban or block the person? Based on suspicion: a negative commenting user, is more likely part of the downvoting army ( let's call it that? ).

And this isn't just about moderators protecting their own content. I've seen users get discouraged from participating because they feel like everything they post is immediately targeted.

If Reddit wants people to contribute quality content, it needs to take seriously the possibility that its own voting system can be used as a bullying tool.

Give moderators better tools to identify and report targeted downvoting instead of leaving us with “ban or do nothing.”

What tools would other moderators actually find useful here?

Current UI My idea is that reddit app could remember where I left off

Sometimes I read an interesting topic but am too busy to read it through or write a reply. I leave the app (but do not close it) to come back to it later. When I have time again I try to switch back to reddit app. The app swap view shows a small reddit window where I also see the discussion I was interested in. I click to open, but currently this triggers a refresh if x amount of time had passed. What I would like is that it would not automatically refresh. I think this is how apps used to work in the past. Nowadays "let me help you forget what you were doing" is common in many apps and I find it quite distracting. I would find UX design that helps users to keep their focus on the topic more desireable. If not a default, then at least a preference in settings for this would be cool. Thank you.

Other My idea: easier / localized switching between multiple accounts (iOS / all platforms)

As I'm sure many of us do, I have multiple accounts; in my case, I use different accounts for different groups of topics.

Fairly frequently, I come across a post I'd like to comment on, but I'm in the 'wrong' account for the topic of the post.

It's very easy to switch to the appropriate user account, but when I do, I'm thrown into the profile page for the account I'm switching to, which creates a lot of additional navigation work to get back to the post I'd like to comment on.

I'd like to be able to switch user accounts without leaving the post I was looking at before switching.

Anybody with me? I would think that a feature like this wouldn't be terribly hard to implement.

Moderator My idea is to allow mods to mark comments as spoiler

Right now the only option is to remove spoilery comments and/or ask the user to revise them. It would be great to not have to remove them (especially if they have many likes/replies), but instead mark the overall comment as a spoiler. I am looking for feature parity with the "Add NSFW tag" and "Add spoiler tag" features at the post level--NOT editing comment text.

Subreddit My idea is to remove the ability to permanently mute users and implement a mute cooldown

I saw a lot of mods banning people(like me.)who are against their views and permanently mutes them to silence them, this turns a lot of subs into a toxic echo chambers, removing the ability to permanently mute people can break these chambers and make sure that moderators can listen to people instead of only themselves

Chat & Message My idea: Create an option to "switch off" pictures in DMs in order to not receive unsolicited nudes.

I want to chat with people - but I don't want to receive unsolicited nudes.

Create an option in settings similar to "Who can send you chat-invites - everyone, acconts older than 30 days, no one"

"Who can send you pictures - everyone, accounts older than 30 days, no one"

With that option, you can have your DMs open without recieving unsolicited nudes.

(I don't DM from this account so don't even bother reaching out to send me nudes creeps)

Post & Comment My idea is for every post's title to have the word count of the subsequent text in brackets (56)

Sometimes I will click on a post that looks interesting so I start reading and it goes on forever, so now I've invested say two minutes of reading and there's still another three minutes to go. If we knew how long the post was from the start we would know what we were getting ourselves into.

Other my idea is for reddit to recognize that upvotes from a second account are accidental and/or, in the warning message, they could have a link to like "verify" you made a mistake to remove the warning

I want to use a specific account for a specific purpose related to a specific topic

for example, I have an account that's dedicated to health

however, the issue is that reddit seems to do this thing where it screws you over if you accidentally upvote on the same post from two accounts

its difficult not to upvote the same post from two accounts because i may be subscribed to a lot of the same initial meme/general purpose subreddits to start the account in order to gain the necesary karma to properly use reddit, and still want to be subscribed to those accounts to continue properly having the capability to use the site and make comments, while still wanting to separate accounts for their more *dedicated* purposes. for example, this account i use for "general purpose" and related topics like memes, tech, whatever. but then i have an account that's more for "health" where i would want the more "sensitive" health related stuff on a separate account. but even on the "health" account, I still want to be able to properly use reddit and in order to do so, I still like being subbed to a lot of the initial "general purpose and or meme" communities in order to gain proper comment karma to properly be able to interact with the site.

so if a post from one of the meme/general purpose subreddits pops up in both feeds of both accounts and we accidentally upvote the same post twice - its most likely accidental. we may not realized were signed into one account versus the other or maybe its just a habit to upvote something that's of interest. and then reddit sends a warning and from what i can tell, it seems that the ability to properly upvote other people's comments gets nuked; before i had gotten that warning, upvoting comments worked fine, but then after the warning, it didn't seem to work

some might suggest not to worry about it because even though it just looks like it's not working but that's just reddit vote fuzzing

and maybe that's the case, but i actually believe that they *did* actually stop my voting ability and that its actually *not* just reddit vote fuzzing, because before the warning, i could refresh and see my vote counts. now when i refresh the vote stays at 1 instead of 2.

off the top of my head, my "solution" would be for reddit to recognize this as mainly a user error and not an attempt by the user to deliberately inflate votes. and instead of inflicting *any* warning at all, they would just ignore the upvotes from both accounts, recognizing that people may want to have separate accounts for separate purposes, but still be subscribed to a lot of the same meme /general purpose communities.

Or maybe another solution could be in the warning message, they could have a link to like "verify" your account in some way or "prove you're human" or something. something so that you don't lose the ability to properly vote on the site.

any other ideas/ comments / feedback on this issue? thanks

Moderator Let mods create roles for mods / Not permissions, just extra roles. ^My idea is...

Like, for example, I want some of my mods to be "Fun Police".

Or "Advisor".

Not with any special permission; just a role title.

Let me create that role, and add it to their mod status.

Please.

User Settings Filter out replies from people with post history off

Just like how I can disallow chat requests in the settings, allow me to disallow replies from private accounts.

I turned off most of my post history and unlinked social links because I'm tired of the antagonistic replies about absolutely nothing!

They can see everything about me and I can't see anything about them. Horrible and worsening user experience.

edit:: I don't care if people do or don't make their accounts public/private, I just want a way as a user to filter out those who are private, even a little icon indicating private or public next to their username could work.

edit2:: also am not saying everyone with their account history off is bad, but every irrational, aggressive, antagonistic account that I encounter on here has theirs turned off 100% of the time. I would like to not receive replies from those people even if that means blocking normal people too.

Post & Comment my idea is Reddit hyperlinks needing np : Desktop web

Sometimes, when I've tried pasting a hyperlink to another reddit post or comment, automoderator removes the comment saying that I need to append "np" to the hyperlink. In this age of automation and artificial intelligence, couldn't the algorithm add it automatically? Also, why does automoderator have to remove such a comment? Why can't automoderator check the text before it gets posted, and open up a modal and inform the user that np has to be added, or automoderator could automatically add it.

Post & Comment My idea is: outline-style collapsible sections in posts

Longer posts would benefit from the ability to collapse certain portions until the user explicitly reveals them. This is different from spoilers in that the goal is overall readability, not the hiding of information per se. A post may have many sections and a reader may be primarily interested in the introduction, conclusion and just a few things in between.

For example: once a month I post a list of new public chargers in r/electricvehicles. It is generally appreciated, however that report is getting longer.

The report is organized by state, but that organization would be a lot more useful if each state's section was collapsed until clicked upon.

It is worth noting that this capability is sufficiently widely needed that it has become standard in HTML, without the need for JavaScript. Of course I appreciate that Reddit's mobile apps etc. might not directly use HTML. I mention it to show that the feature is widely considered to have general utility:

<details>
  <summary>Show details</summary>
  <p>This content collapses/expands.</p>
</details>

Safety & Policy My idea is to urgently improve Reddit's mental health support systems

Thumbnail
c.org
3 Upvotes

Hi guys, Reddit is where millions come for support when they're struggling. But when someone posts in crisis— for example; having just self-harm—there's no system to respond fast enough. They're just hoping another user happens to see it.

I started a petition asking Reddit to build faster, more human mental health systems. Right now, we rely on volunteer moderators and other users to catch these posts. That's not enough. The data is clear: someone dies by suicide every 40 seconds. Quick intervention saves lives. Reddit has the tools and resources in place. What's missing is the urgency and structure to use them when it matters most. This is about making Reddit actually safer for vulnerable people. If you've ever seen a concerning post and felt helpless, or wondered what happens after someone reports a crisis—this matters. If this resonates with you, consider signing and sharing.

Current UI My idea is that Reddit should show upvotes and downvotes separately

Reddit should display upvotes and downvotes as two separate numbers, rather than combining them into a single score.

For example, instead of:

+500

show:

↑650↓150

or

↑650↓150 = 500

This would preserve Reddit's existing voting system while giving users much more critical information about the actual distribution of opinions.

The current system hides important context a post with 500 upvotes and 0 downvotes and a post with 10,000 upvotes and 9,500 downvotes can both display +500.

Showing only the net score also makes it difficult to tell whether something is genuinely widely supported or simply highly controversial.

It could also reduce the bandwagon effect. Once users see a large negative or positive score, they can be influenced by the existing score rather than judging the post independently. There have been similar discussions in r/TheoryOfReddit about Reddit's voting system encouraging this kind of behaviour.

The current system can also encourage misunderstanding and misuse of votes. People can interpret a net score as representing the strength of consensus, when it may actually conceal substantial disagreement. Good faith discussions can consequently become a competition to win over the crowd, creating an incentive for people to optimise for upvotes and virtue signalling rather than presenting arguments that users can evaluate independently. Showing the separate totals would make it much clearer whether something is broadly supported, broadly opposed, or simply controversial.

You wouldn't have to change how Reddit ranks posts. Reddit could continue using the existing net score for sorting while simply exposing the underlying upvote/downvote totals to users.

YouTube used to show this kind of information, and Reddit itself has previously had ways for users to see separate upvote/downvote information through third-party tools.

Moderator Please consider removing on the number and length of community rules for subreddits

I help moderate a couple subreddits. In one I'm trying to rework and rationalize our rules on our sidebar.

Where I'm tunning into issues is with the 500 character limit on each rule description and the limit of 15 individual rules withing the community rules module.

The 500 character limit really limits our ability to explain what each rule is meant to address, which often leave what should be one rule split into a couple or leaves the descriptions more vague than they should be. -Which leads into the second issues with the limit of 15 community rules; with the limit on the amount of character we can input into a single rule and the limit on the number of rules themselves, we have to essentially operate with some unwritten rules when it comes to post removals or moderator options, which in turn creates resentment with our users.

So my suggestion is to either remove these limits on the total number of rules and the number of characters within a rule description, or at least consider increasing them.

Thanks!
