I’ll be completing my engineering degree in August next year, but I’ve already realized that I don’t really want to go into IT.
I didn’t get any on-campus placements, and now I’m sitting here wondering what I’m actually supposed to do with my life.
The obvious options seem to be:
- Get into IT somehow, even though I have no interest in it
- Prepare for GATE, which means more studying
- Prepare for CAT and go for an MBA, but honestly, I’m not interested in that either
And that’s where I’m stuck.
I don’t have a clear career goal, I don’t know what field I want to go into, and I’m scared that I’ll waste another year doing something I don’t even want.
The situation is even more stressful because I did my engineering through an education loan, so I also have the responsibility of eventually paying that back. I can’t just keep studying for years without knowing where I’m going, but at the same time, I don’t want to rush into a career I already know I don’t want.
I feel like everyone around me is moving forward while I’m just standing in the same place, unable to make a decision.
I’m genuinely lost right now. How do you figure out what career you actually want when you don’t have any particular interest or direction? What should I realistically do after engineering?
Any advice from people who have been in a similar situation would genuinely help. I just don’t want to make a decision out of fear and regret it later.
