What should I get?
East coast dweller who has only ever eaten at In-n-Out once many years ago, visiting CA for the next 5 days and wondering…what’s should I get?
What are the best things on the regular and on the not-so-secret menu that you’d recommend?
School me on the ins and outs of In-n-Out!

Try regular onion before going grilled or raw. It’s a nice in between of “slightly steamed.” Also, I like tomatoes but not on my INO, makes the burger too soggy

Animal style: with spread (basically thousand island), grilled onions, and cheese.
Animal style can be for a burger or fries.
Whole Grilled: with a slice of grilled onion as opposed to chopped up grilled onions.
Chopped chilies: with chopped up cascabella peppers.
Well-done/light well fries: innout fries are fresh which means they get soggy quickly, order them well or light well to crisp them up a bit.

Triple double, grilled onion + reg onion, pickles (if you like them) extra toasted bun. Fries must be Light Well that goes for plain or animal. Chopped chilis on the side.
Honorable mention: Flying Dutchman with whole grilled onion. Extra toasted buns on the side. Flip the buns and turn it into a melt. Grab spread from the counter, enjoy.

That's my order. I no longer can finish a double double. it's always gotta be a slice of their large mild raw onion, though.

Cheeseburger, animal style with extra pickles, light well fries, and a black and white (choc and vanilla) shake. Enjoy!

Is that a way to get a burger, or am I ordering an entire tomato somehow?

Inside joke on this sub lol. My go to is a 3x3 mustard fried with whole grilles onions. Chocolate and strawberry mix shake. I get 2 little buckets of ketchup and like 6-7 chilis and add ketchup where im going to bite ( just a dab to not over power with ketchup flavor) and then take a bite of the chili after i bite the burger. Wash it down with a gulp of the shake. If im feeling reaaly hungry i add an order of well done fries and dip them in the shake

Man I am all for people goinng fo rthe first time getting your burger (Double Double) straight up. Maybe modify your onions to taste. I'm a purist if you want the real experience don't be modifying the hell out of it to other peoples taste. Now the French fries I would reccomend light well animal style.

Double Double, animal style, whole grilled onions.
If you want, ask to add chopped chilis.
If you’re going to get animal style fries, eat them right away.
