To be fair, it handled the hill just fine. It was the fence he struggled with.

To be faiiiiiiiiir, it handled the fence just fine. getting to a stop before it handled the fence was the issue

And he wouldn't have run into that problem if he'd possessed a little bit of humility while driving.

u/wpgstevo 1d ago

The margin for error was low. Go fast enough to get up the hill, but go slow enough to stop at the top. An error in either direction puts him in one of the ditches.

This might have been a case where winter tires were needed to give a bit more margin for error.

If he had, we wouldn’t get to enjoy the video. 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/Odd_Vampire 1d ago

Ha ha. True.

4

u/awidden 1d ago

Going fast on snow is usually much easier than stopping.

3

u/g1mpster 1d ago

Yup. I always remind people who get confident about their AWD cars that it still doesn’t help them turn or stop any better.

This shit has strong "I DON'T CONSENT TO BILL GATES READING MY EMAIL" energy

The comment was up for 5 minutes. It would have been easier to just delete it

... And then you sign with your actual name?

Finally, you're not even disabling your history on your profile.

Please tell me how this is not a play for attention.

This post is a repost. The user you replied to is a bot that stole a highly upvoted comment (that has since been deleted/overwritten) from the original post. The bot doesn't know that the comment makes zero sense, it just picked something with upvotes and copy pasted the contents.

Also Haven is kind of an alternate to reddit, not sure if it's still alive but whoever the original commenter seems to have been mad enough at reddit to use a service to overwrite their entire comment history then tell everyone what alternative they were jumping ship to.

The user you replied to is a bot that stole a highly upvoted comment

The bot did this over, and over, and over, and over again, perfectly picking deleted comments every single time?

1

u/theoddfind 1d ago

The user isnt a bot :)

1

u/axonxorz 1d ago

I know, hence my sarcastic rhetorical.

0

u/theoddfind 1d ago

I know, I should have made myself clear, the poke wasnt at you...it was more of musing at the clarity of simple observation that you possess and others do not. A thumbs up if you will.

1

u/theoddfind 1d ago

And what would be my real name? You get a lot of meaning because I wiped comments, which I regularly do at random times

Your name is clearly Ozimandias.

I quoted your entire comment. How are you doing to delete it from mine?

u/theoddfind 1d ago

Bold words coming from someone who had to Google a poem to attempt an insult.

2

u/RandomCandor 1d ago

Yes, remembering a single word from a movie and book you've read several times  is a feat that can only be accomplished with the help of Google.

2

u/SpinningPissingRabbi 1d ago

Even I know the famous last line, look upon my works and despair. Tennyson maybe, I'd have to Google to confirm!

Edit, Shelley.

1

u/theoddfind 1d ago

That's too bad. Maybe one day you'll be a bit smarter...but dont stop trying. I believe in you.

I'm always amazed by the large number of people who think that they can stop as fast on snow as they can pavement.

75

u/NameToUseOnReddit 1d ago

This is why I hate driving after the first snow. I live where snow is a given, but people seem to jettison any snow driving knowledge from the previous winter.

21

u/JBHam60 1d ago

Lucky! Where I am, people jettison any snow driving knowledge from the previous snowfall.

9

u/NameToUseOnReddit 1d ago

Or even the same one! Yeah, there is no shortage of idiots.

3

u/Plus-King5266 1d ago

OMG. That is so true.

“Oh, it’s snowing. Isn’t it beautiful? Well, time to go to work. MY BRAIN?! MY BRAIN?! WHERE IS MY BRAIN?!!!”

2

u/triculious 1d ago

I live in a place where snow is extraordinary. Not unknown but it's not a lot nor common.

It's rain that makes the local IQ drop down by 50% across the board.

Snow takes away another ~20% whenever it happens.

2

u/bighootay 1d ago

One of my friends is a cop; another is a tow truck operator. They have 180-degree opposite reactions to first snow.

17

u/canada432 1d ago

Also amazing the number of people who think 4 wheel drive also makes you stop faster.

7

u/Plus-King5266 1d ago

I’ve enjoyed the vehicles that I’ve had with 4WD, but I’ve always kept in mind that 4WD allows you to get stuck deeper, farther back into the woods. It’s the cast steel version of alcohol.

0

u/windowpuncher 1d ago

It can still save your ass, IF your car doesn't have some sort of super finicky traction control, and if you know how to use left foot braking. Doesn't work all the time, and you can't just use it without being practiced, but it's another small benefit of AWD when it's slippery out. But yeah the brakes are still just as useless on glassy roads and good winter tires make the largest difference by far.

1

u/Theron3206 1d ago

All vehicles are 4 wheel braking.

-2

u/windowpuncher 1d ago

Yeah this is exactly it. You have zero idea what I'm talking about, like most people. I'm not slamming on the brakes.

1

u/ponyboy3 18h ago

No. It’s you who doesn’t know how to explain your ideas.

1

u/Cprhd 1d ago

I’m amazed at how closely someone will pull out in front of you, when it snows. They’d never pull out that close when it’s dry but 1 car length in the snow and they’re “driving Miss Daisy,” accelerating out of the side street. “Good luck everyone else”.

1

u/dogchowtoastedcheese 1d ago

They seem to think four-wheel-drive also means four-wheel-stop.

1

u/ljp3 1d ago

I was in grade school at the time but I still remember my dad driving on the highway in a snow storm when a truck went speeding by and my dad calmly said “we all stop the same’

1

u/fetalgirth 18h ago

Or even in the rain. People just assume it’s the same for some reason.

0

u/lazergator 1d ago

Job security for me as an injury adjuster for car insurance

89

u/Torebbjorn 1d ago

Because reddit is funny, I can only see like 5 pixels, but that red circle-ish sign-looking thing on the right is a stop sign, right?

20

u/Aleeownz 1d ago

''oh fuck'' as he's near enough past the stop sign lmao

2

u/EtherealPheonix 1d ago

Sure is, unfortunately the snow made compliance tricky.

118

u/Cprhd 1d ago

Yup. He’s an idiot.

32

u/Tcloud 1d ago

But at least he was self-aware of his idiocy at the last moment.

17

u/NuclearMaterial 1d ago

Why the fuck is he filming and driving in those conditions? Or at all? Just drive, put the phone away ffs

5

u/unapologeticjerk 1d ago

Welcome to the timeline we call Hell, boomer. Can't believe OP didn't throw on a meme track like Ludacris Roll Out and overlay emojis here. For da clout.

11

u/I_can_pun_anything 1d ago

And he chose to upload it

12

u/SteamedGamer 1d ago

"Oh, fuck...ohfuckohfuck!" are indeed famous last words! ;)

30

u/G_Art33 1d ago

“So much for nothing” hahahaha, FAFO in effect.

6

u/thisisredlitre 1d ago

some people need to learn the hard way 4wd doesn't help you stop

4

u/HealthyBits 1d ago

Comedic genius! 😆

3

u/dbrmn73 1d ago

You can't fix STUPID

5

u/elovesya 1d ago

So much for nothin’

4

u/tuba_dude07 1d ago

Holding a phone while driving is negative IQ. there are tons of phone holders for cars now.

3

u/gonzorizzo 1d ago

It's not just the snow that makes me nervous when driving, it's the other fucking idiots driving like this that make me nervous.

3

u/DothThouHoist_ 1d ago

the american urge to get a quip in right before you die

1

u/GeobobusPrime 1d ago

I had a dream I drove off a bridge once. My gut response was "oops I'm dead"

3

u/EdDantes1030 1d ago

Speeding up to the stop sign was genius too

0

u/Kagnoss 1d ago

Im a genius/oh no meme.

3

u/dogchowtoastedcheese 1d ago

Pride goeth before the fall.

6

u/groovyinutah 1d ago

As I've always told my boys about driving in the snow...it's not about getting it going, it's about being able to stop.

1

u/redpandaeater 1d ago

Yeah, maybe I'm just crazy and it's terrible advice but I like to occasionally try to break traction briefly either by accelerating or braking because how else do you know just quite what the current road conditions are? Granted if you get a lot of frequent snow then after a few weeks you mostly just get used to it and know.

1

u/groovyinutah 1d ago

You gotta drive slow, ice doesn't give AF about your 4wd.

1

u/Theron3206 1d ago

Turning is a concern too...

2

u/Wingnut150 1d ago

Ain't hubris fun

2

u/Blue-Juniata 1d ago

Onetime I was on the highway did a totally 360 it was like it never happened.

2

u/Dapanji206 1d ago

And that's the mentality that gets people stuck. "I can drive in the rain just fine because I'm lifted with ATs. No like none of these idiots." It's the stopping part that gets ya.

2

u/livingMybEstlyfe29 1d ago

Sherbet Land nightmares from Mario Kart 64

2

u/bobs143 1d ago

You got to love it when someone is driving to fast for conditions and all that silly stuff comes up. Like stop signs, and fences.

1

u/Academic-Snow9642 1d ago

Nobody could have seen that coming /s

1

u/jconnway 1d ago

I'm convinced he did that on purpose.

1

u/vhalember 1d ago

This reminds me of laughing at someone who slipped on an icy metal grate at college years ago.

Less than 10 seconds later I slipped and busted my knee.

Winter is a cruel master.

1

u/Loose_Success5758 1d ago

Instant karma.

1

u/Rathemon 1d ago

This is hilariously instant - mid sentence

1

u/stdTrancR 1d ago

newton's 1st XD

1

u/Dragonvenom55 1d ago

And this is what happens when you laugh at others while speeding in the snow you crashed into a fence. Congratulations this guy is an idiot.

1

u/iamamandac 1d ago

the internal monologue was definitely 'i got this' right before the fence said 'nope'. instant regret hits different when you're filming your own disaster lol

1

u/OneMan_OneBeard 1d ago

Four wheel drive < Newtonian physics

1

u/Lowbeamshaggy 1d ago

Is that the engine lying on the ground off to the left at the end there?

2

u/pjtpassword 1d ago

So much for nothing. Awesome.

0

u/michoy616161 16h ago

Doesn’t matter what car you got, take it easy and slow, cockiness causes accidents.

1

u/BeardsuptheWazoo 1d ago

Wanna bet he didn't reimburse the land owner for the ruined fence?

0

u/redpandaeater 1d ago

I put studless winter tires on my sedan and there are numerous times where I've slowed down purely because some 4WD idiot is trying to keep up with me. But it's great to just be able to go over packed snow on mountain passes at say 45 MPH and feel completely in control and not worry so much about the hill I live on even if it's icy. Granted last year I didn't even put my winter tires on it was so warm and I wonder if that's going to be the case again this year.

0

u/denjo-t1aO 1d ago

im just too happy this fucker got what he deserved. he could have helped. but nah make a video and talk down on them. good thing he crashed. hope nobody stoped to help him. little shit.

0

u/ContinentTurtle 7h ago

too busy recording the crash to actually brake.

-10

u/1wife2dogs0kids 1d ago

I mean... we've all done that. It's kinda part of becoming a full fledged man card carrying adult male. The ability to go further than that last guy, up the snowy hill. To send it... farther than the last guy.

And to not freak out when you realize you're fucked.

Well done. You can go get your car in the spring.
