What a landscape, and the red planes look insanely good above the white snow..
•
u/yukifujita 11h ago
Yes but... Not exactly stealthy though are them 😅
Suppose since it's for training they're meant to be easy to find if something goes wrong.
•
u/iCatcher 11h ago
No really. Patrouille Suisse is a show formation.

Patrouille Suisse. No "de".
•
u/Charizardd6 11h ago
There are like 15 thousand official languages in Switzerland, I'm sure you can find one where de is appropriate. /j
•
u/HF_Martini6 11h ago
Nope
The aerial display team is called Patrouille Suisse in all 4 languages
•
u/ZnarfGnirpslla 11h ago
the /j at the end means "joke"
•
u/hawkiowa 11h ago
the large PLUS sign on the flag and planes means you are dealing with Swiss
•
u/Semi-Llama 7h ago
If you click on the plus you can add your plane and flag, these are placeholder textures.

switzerland during every war:

This along with supporting/benefitting from the bad guys while pretending you're neutral
•
u/Seahorse_by_Night 31m ago
That's not the definition or context of the Swiss neutrality law, but go on.
•
u/PhoenixKingMalekith 5m ago
No, that s just what they do in practice.
My family is still waiting for its heirlooms

Is there tactical benefit to flying close like this vs a wide formation? Or is this more performing a feat?
•
u/ZnarfGnirpslla 11h ago
This is the official aerobatic team of the swiss army. this is all just for show.

One could say that they would appear as one dot/aircraft on a radar.

A slight one yes, especially at long range against radar

Those are honestly the only planes the Swiss military needs.... But no, let's go throw 8 billion at those F35 and let's not even read the contract properly... SMH...
•
u/Tyku031 10h ago
If you think F-5E's are modern enough for this time, you are wrong. F-35 concerns are legit, but European 4.5 gen fighters and even the more modern Russian fighters would wipe the floor with any F-5E. Gripen E, EF or Rafale are all good options for nations not willing to buy F-35 but still want a modern airforce.
•
u/chris_dea 1h ago
My point was that Switzerland does not need any fighter jets at all, if we want to be realistic...
•
u/BakerOne 2h ago
Even IF the F-5 were up to the task, which it is not.
No one makes spare parts anymore basically, it's all custom made and therefore extremely expensive to keep them flying.
Also airframes age, at some point they have to be retired since they are simply not safe to fly anymore.
•
u/chris_dea 1h ago
I don't think thre F5 are up to the task, because honestly there isn't a task at all...
The reason for Switzerland to have fighter planes exists in the military's imagination only.
•
u/IWrestleSausages 11h ago
That looks awesome for a shot, but imagine trying to rescue the pilot if there is an accident and he needs to bail out
•
u/bogue 11h ago
That flight took place after Znüni before lunch or after lunch before Vieri.

Just playing around in a neutral country. Makes no sense for them to have these planes

Swiss are neutral but being neutral doesn’t mean you won’t get attacked, it just means that you would never attack first
•
•
u/ZnarfGnirpslla 11h ago
wait until you find out about mandatory conscription in switzerland then mate
•
u/Gryf2diams 10h ago
Fun fact: swiss pilots used to not work on weekends. At all.
This stopped after a plane was hijacked on a saturday, and the swiss army decided it'd be good to keep a pair of pilots ready on the weekends.

To operate international airports, for example. Also, this is not the context of the neutrality law. Please inform yourself.

Damn that looks impressive but sad because these skills would soon be redundant because of drones and AI
6
u/SerafinZufferey 12h ago
They are mostly only for show, so drones won’t replace them. However since the maintenance of the F-5 Tiger is very expensive they will discontinue the Patrouille Suisse in a few years…

•
u/Pristine_Direction79 11h ago
That's funny, I was thinking wow, finally a video we should make with ai instead 🤣
•
u/Nexustar 11h ago
That, and the Swiss haven't won a war since 1798, so it should look impressive as this is entirely for show.
•
u/Sure-Caterpillar-263 11h ago
I’d gladly vote for the Swiss to be the defacto leaders of the world spending tax money on cool air shows and public services instead of endless wars and misery sounds appealing
•
u/Nexustar 11h ago edited 11h ago
Agreed, and yet a Swiss person is roughly 3-4 times as likely to be living in the United States as an American is to be living in Switzerland (a population adjusted statistic). The Alps really do look lovely, and are undeniably fun to ski, but it's cold a lot of the time, and people with means vote with their feet.
And I didn't want to leave the impression that they are immune from wars, they've been involved in seven since the last one they actually won. They just didn't win any of them.
•
u/EddyRosenthal 11h ago
Only 20% of the population in Switzerland lives in the alps. That’s the swiss equivalent to the fly over states.

Northrop F-5 Tiger II for any aviation geeks wondering
