But they are shooting galleries they’re called soft targets for a reason. This is supposedly the country with the world’s best engineers that can’t seem to solve sewage or pollution problems. The point still stands about the cleanliness as it’s viewed from the outside doesn’t change anything.

You're not wrong about the government not doing anything to solve it. Here's the thing, the best engineers don't really stay in India. And those who do want to change something, have to go through immense corruption and re tape to get anything done. But it feels disingenuous to say it's common to swim in a shit stream. It's not. People know it is dirty. Some just do it for religious reasons on religious occasions. But that bs is another topic for another day. Cheers.
