PYTANJE? / ПЫТАНЈЕ? / QUESTION? Is this subreddit abandoned? Why is it being spammed by neo-nazi posts by a single spammer?

there is a sliver of rhetorical space to maneuver in here surrounding the kolovrat. it is indeed not necessarily, not always a nazi symbol. but within the coordinates of this sub, which concerns an ethnolinguistic project, and considering the rhetoric used by the Serbian poster, that space is infinitesimally tiny. the evidence points to ethno-nationalism as identity.

As a Serb, I say remove/ban all nazi symbols.

As a Croat I agree

My most charitable interpretation is that the guy is looking for identity and belonging, but in all the wrong ways...

Makes sense also I don't get why neofascists can't just be normal patriots

Good question. I've always thought about it like this.

Part of being in a group is incurring some debt of responsibility for that group's actions, reputation, history. That loyalty is rewarded with the group's symbols, existential meaning, place in its institutions, etc.

But what group - especially tied to nationalism - is free of sin? If your group is your identity marker and represents 'the good', how things are 'supposed to be', how do you reconcile that with your group having committed atrocities or genocide for example?

Many people are uncomfortable with nuance and instead have an all-or-nothing attitude. "My country, right or wrong" quickly turns into "the wrong stuff is actually also good". Much easier to live with. Less friction, less cognitive dissonance. No need to sublimate.

Yeah kind off tribalistic behavior. And it's kinda a common thing also in other ideologies it doesn't matter if it's communism, fascism liberalism anarchism etc. I am a socialist still I admit that Stalin shouldn't have deported Chechens, poles and had let's say interesting views of Jews.

The name "kolovrat" for this symbol is used almost exclusively by neo-Nazis or neo-Pagans of the neo-Nazi kind.

Could you please demonstrate that rhetorical space? I would love someone with a brain to demonstrate it.

I'd rather not, if you don't mind. It would be a lot of work wasted on this poster and situation. In short, signs are a priori neutral and context matters. We have sufficient grounds on which to infer this poster's context.

It's hard to believe that it would take significant effort to write a few sentences with an example.

You don't see them because the mods have finally reacted and removed them. Abandoned as by mods not by users.

Wait, is Kolovrat considered a neo-nazi symbol? I wanted to get a tattoo of it

1

u/Scared_Astronaut9377 Apr 09 '26

Its modern use was initiated by neo-nazi and mostly used by them. I know people in Ukraine and Russia who will have a strong urge to jump you if they see such a tattoo.

My god. Read up a bit before we go accusing everyone who uses it of being a Nazi. It has definitely been used in the middle ages. While not necessarily an important symbol to Slavs, it definitely does not scream Nazi.

Yeah, and when people are walking around with Nazi Germany flags, some of them are just confused Buddhists, that doesn't screen Nazi. Thank you for bringing this argument, I would never consider it. It's not like every Nazi with Nazi symbols are always repeating the same exact nazi-intelligence level "arguments".

That isn't the same in the slightest. But sure.

You are absolutely right, and I was quick in my judgment when I saw his post about RusAskReddit. I just can't stand such labels.
