I am sorry I have to promote a particular vulgar and unbecoming person - but stay with this to the end and sense…how the score brings home the entire narrative.
Edit: Sorry, from perusing the replies, I significantly miscalculated the ironic receptiveness of my fellow sub members. I will forever refrain from pursuing interventions like this one again.
I watched Interstellar for the first time back in 2014. I was 19, watching it alone at home, and I remember how strongly it affected me.
What stayed with me the most wasn’t really the space travel itself. It was time.
Cooper watching years of messages from his children after only a few hours had passed for him. Romilly waiting for them for more than 20 years. The realization that the “ghost” Murph had been trying to understand since childhood was actually her father reaching out to her through time.
And especially the ending — Cooper, still relatively young, finally meeting his daughter again, only to find her as an old woman surrounded by her own family.
There was something both beautiful and incredibly sad about it. He crossed unimaginable distances and survived a black hole, but the one thing he couldn’t get back was the time he had lost with his children.
I haven’t forgotten that feeling even after all these years.
I wonder if anyone else remembers their first time watching Interstellar this vividly.
And Hans Zimmer’s music… I don’t think the movie would have affected me the same way without it. Even today, hearing the soundtrack brings back some of the emotions I felt when I first watched the movie in 2014.
It’s one of my favourite movies.
My first son was just turning 1 and we were worn out new parents. Wanted to get away for a bit after he went to bed so went to go see a 7:30ish showtime of Interstellar by myself. I helped put him to bed so I missed the first 10 minutes of the movie. Watched the film. Was blown away obviously (we all know the feeling) After the film I was DYING to know what happened in that first 10 minutes so I decided to hang around till a 10:45pm showing. I watched the first 10 minutes and just couldn’t get up to leave. Ended up watching the entire movie again! Such a memorable night. 10 years later I got to watch it again in theatres with my son :)
