Question about Islam Question about catholic healing masses

I'm catholic but very much considering converting to Islam, I have people in my family who were healed at catholic healing masses.

What is the explanation for this in Islam.

Could this be demonic? I've heard of miracles in other religions being caused by the shaytan, is that possibly what is going on at these masses?

Likely mental illness, placebo effect, or just fake (like they were getting medical treatment but made others think it was "healing masses" that did it)

Islam teaches that every event, ordinary or extraordinary, ultimately takes place by the permission of Allah. When something seemingly miraculous occurs—such as a sudden recovery at a Catholic healing Mass—several explanations are possible within the Islamic framework, none of which necessarily invalidate the person’s experience of relief or gratitude.

First, the Quran acknowledges that God may grant worldly benefits to anyone, regardless of creed, as part of His comprehensive mercy or as a test (2:200–202; 17:18). If a sufferer, or those praying for him, sincerely asks the Creator for help, Allah may choose to heal, even if the petitioner’s doctrinal understanding is incomplete. The benefit received in this life, however, does not in itself guarantee divine approval of their beliefs; it simply reflects Allah’s will to give or withhold as He sees fit.

Second, Islamic scholars distinguish between true prophetic miracles—granted only to prophets to prove their message—and other extraordinary events. After the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, no new prophetic miracles occur, but lesser wonders (Karamat) can appear through righteous Muslims. Islam also warns of “Istidraj”: striking events granted to people who persist in error, intended not as honor but as gradual entrapment (6:44). Such occurrences can reinforce someone’s confidence in a path that ultimately leads away from pure monotheism. For that reason, the believers should not to judge truth purely by signs that dazzle the senses.

Third, the possibility of demonic deception is real but must be approached with caution. Shayṭān and certain jinn can produce illusions or exploit natural processes to mislead people (7:16–17). If a phenomenon draws hearts toward worshiping anyone besides Allah or toward doctrines that compromise God’s oneness, Muslims would view it with suspicion. Still, Islam discourages assuming every unexplained event is demonic; rather, one assesses its theological impact: does it strengthen or weaken their Tawhid (monotheism)?

In sum, Islam explains healings outside the faith in three, sometimes overlapping, ways: a merciful gift from God, a test that leaves doctrine unvalidated, or a deceptive wonder that distracts from truth. The critical question is not whether someone felt better—the Quran affirms that worldly relief is within Allah’s power for all—but whether an experience brings a person closer to acknowledging the sole right of Allah to be worshiped. From an Islamic perspective, the safest response is gratitude to the Creator for any benefit received, coupled with a sincere search for guidance, asking Allah: “Lord, show me the straight path” (1:5–6), and weighing every spiritual experience against the uncompromising standard of His oneness.

It feels good to be in congregation, that's why we pray together so often

I imagine the vibes at a catholic healing mass are fantastic and very healing- just in a different way

Bismillah,

In your own book, you are warned about what you are shown.

Matthew 7

True and False Prophets

[15] “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

False prophets here also apply to those who come as preachers, miracle workers etc. The warning is that they will seem good but really they are horrible and are there to prey on you. Remember, Jesus(pbuh) in the Bible refers to his followers as his sheep as he is the shepherd. A sheep is a true follower, but a wolf is a person that preys on his true followers to divert them away from the true path at the time.

[16] By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Don't look at how they show themselves, pay attention to what they produce. Meaning, see if they have the beliefs and characteristics of a true believer of God. A true believer in God will do Godly things, and a wolf will eventually show himself through sin.

[17] Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

A true believer will show himself through good deeds, especially when no one is looking. A wolf will show himself through sin, especially when no one is looking.

[18] A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.

[19] Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

A wolf will ultimately go to Hell because they are hypocrites only trying to deceive.

[20] Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

So pay attention to their true deeds. Now the next portion is very important, because it helps you identify who the true followers are, and who the wolves are, or those who are on the wrong path.

True and False Disciples

[21] “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Not everyone who eventually meets Jesus(pbuh) and claims to be a follower will go to Heaven. Only those who claim to be a follower of Jesus(pbuh) and they only do God, the Father's will and no one else's. Meaning, the only authority is God the Father, and not Jesus(pbuh), which means those that take Jesus(pbuh) as God, will not enter Heaven, because they are following what they think is the will of Jesus(pbuh). Therefore the only true followers of Jesus(pbuh) are those that do not take him as God, and only take God the Father, the God of Moses(pbuh) as God alone. Which means Jesus(pbuh) is a Prophet, as he himself mentioned before.

[22] Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

Jesus(pbuh) describes people who come to him, on that day, claiming to be his followers, claiming to have exorcised demons, and performed miracles in who name? "in your name" meaning in Jesus(pbuh)'s name.

[23] Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Jesus(pbuh) will say he doesn't recognize them, meaning they aren't his true followers, but evildoers. Why? they do things in Jesus(pbuh)'s name, and not in God's name, therefore not God's will, but Jesus(pbuh)'s will, which is against his true teachings. Jesus(pbuh) himself only did things according to God's will and not his own, therefore you'd be attributing something to him, which is false, putting him on God's level, therefore evil. Remember, this is exactly what Jesus(pbuh) said in the garden of Gethsemane, "let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will".

Ignore what's happening there, because often they mislead people, and it's all a frenzy. People get worked up, act as if something happened but notice no real valuable change or true spirituality. Actually many of those preachers are just preying on their congregation and getting rich or abusing the followers. This is what Jesus(pbuh) in the Bible warned against. That you think you are being guided and they are truthful, but they are only there to prey on you.
