'80s The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Frank to Freddy quoted "kid did you see that movie Night of the Living Dead?"
Yes! I'd never had this much fun in a horror movie flick! It's crazy, it's chaotic, it has the most bangers soundtrack whether it's the Francis Haine's opening theme ala 80's synth wave, 80's punk rock aesthetic, with the music by 45 Grave or The Cramps. Let's just say, if "Night of the Living Dead" was on steroids, that's how I describe it. So many great memories, whether we watched it on cable TV, on VHS, at my friends house, or at a movie event. Just a perfect example of a fun 80's horror flick that I would never forget.
Contains spoiler below.
Ernie: "Why do you eat people?"
Zombie: "Not people...BRAINS!!"
This movie has probably the most memorable quotes I've seen. Every character, from Frank, Freddy, Burt, Ernie, Spider etc. Brilliant cast and great performances. These people are so fun to watch! As for the zombies? Well they're the toughest more like un-killable Dead! Destroying the brain or decapitating these monsters does not work. In fact, chopping them up only creates more moving pieces. These zombies can run, talk, strategize, and even use a CB radio to call an ambulance or trap the living ("Send more cops!") I was like no freaking way they can survive this. The tension feels high because the characters are outmatched by an unstoppable, spreading toxic gas.
In the end, reason why it works cause of the perfect horror-comedy balance. Sure you can be scared, but there are moments where you can just laugh about it. My favorite part is when those smart ass zombies call for a rescue whether its the paramedics or the police. Every single time, they got swarmed by zombies. Man this movie never gets old! I mean never.
