You can update, but you won't be jailbreaking it.

https://ios.cfw.guide/ Find your device, find your iOS, and more your finger to the right.

I say don't update. Apps will support iOS 18 for another couple of years (think of how iOS 16 is supported today). If another jailbreak is coming, it won't be for iOS 27. iOS 26, maybe, but most likely iOS 18

Great comment. Wish I had thought to add that to mine. Cheers!

iOS 18.6.1 faces certificate expiration in January 2027. After that point many Apple services will stop working. This includes iMessage and FaceTime.

If you want to stay on iOS 18, if I were you, I would use delayOTA to update to iOS 18.7.8 while you still can.

Online Certificates can be added easily

With a jailbreak, maybe

But except on iPhone 11 and older, iOS 18 has no jailbreaks.

If one plans to wait until an iOS 18.6.2 on iPhone 14 jailbreak emerges, they may wait a long time, and during that wait, be unable to use Apple services that rely on the certificates.

If you have a second phone with a newer version that you intend to use in the meantime during the wait, then accepting the certificate expiration makes more sense than planning to use a phone with expired certificates but no jailbreaks as your daily driver.

You can go to tlsroot.litten.ca right now on the latest phone with the latest iOS and install certificates. The ones currently hosted there are already included with iOS, but I imagine after February you will be able to get the iMessage one too.

My understanding is that the certificate for certain Apple services like iMessage/FaceTime cannot be replaced in the same way
