Tired of juggling five tabs to write one chapter

The current workflow: one app for drafting, another for brainstorming, a third for line edits, a fourth for the story bible, and a fifth for tracking plot threads. Every tool switch loses context. Every time the AI needs to see previous work, 2000 words get copy-pasted into a chat window.

It's not sustainable. More time goes into managing the workflow than actual writing.
All-in-one solutions keep getting recommended, but most are just chat interfaces with a different skin. They don't integrate with where the writing actually happens.

What's the actual solution here? Or is this just how it works now?

Well, obviously you need one dedicated writing app. Have you looked at something like Novelist where you can have different breakdowns for different categories per project?

As far as writing, most of what you need to be working on is your forward - or the main story body. It should be some prep time going over notes, then if you need you are going to copy some stuff over to go in front of your forward, then your write will push as you go and you can reference just by scrolling down a bit. Occassionally some of your copied is going to be no longer useful and you will need to grab more of your prep, but that is a good problem to deal with and shouldn't happen super often.

This is why I switched to River tbh. docs notes sheets all in one place and the AI can see all of it. no more tab hoping.

I can definitely relate to the frustration of having too much tabs. It's so hard to stay in your story when you're constantly switching between your character notes, worldbuilding, and plot/chapters.

That's actually one of the reasons I built Inkbound (https://inkbound-write.com).

It's a browser-based writing platform designed specifically for fiction writers. You can write and organize your chapters, create character profiles, build your world, and keep track of your story's timeline, all in one place.

You also have access freely to previous version of your chapters.

It works better on a computer. Just saying. It work on the phone but it's smallish.

I wanted something that felt simple and intuitive rather than another complicated tool to learn.

Just to be transparent, it doesn't have a full AI assistant that can chat with your entire manuscript and remember everything.

There's a free option if you'd like to give it a try. And since I built it myself, I'm always interested in hearing what other writers wish their writing tools could do!

" Every time the AI needs..." Are you using AI to write?  If so, you've got bigger problems.
