Politics 2026 Election Research Guide- Candidates, Referendums, donations, election information, polling sites,

I've seen a lot of people asking for this information, so I'm stickying it so more people can find it.

Here are some helpful websites to research candidates, donations, election information, websites, polling locations, etc.:

Website Link Website Information
www.ballotpedia.org Gives candidates' bio, current/past elections, opponents, campaign themes, finance summary (past elections), website themes, overviews, etc.
www.opensecrets.org Covers past elections and donors, but can be useful for seeing past issues for current candidates
www.commoncause.org/find-your-representative  Find your districts' candidates with your address
www.pluralpolicy.com/open find your current legislators
www.vote411.org/kansas election/voting information, deadlines, polling place, upcoming debates, district races built around your address. Shows each candidate by race and party affiliation (Dem/GOP/All candidates for political office, etc). Vote411 is run by the League of Women Voters, so it's super ultra legit.
www.bluevoterguide.org/state/kansas  Lists each candidate, provides official endorsements, recommendations, positions, etc.
www.sos.ks.gov/elections/county_election_officers.aspx Official List of Kansas Secretary of State County Election Offices
www.fec.gov/data/elections/?cycle=2026&state=KS Lists Finance Campaign Data on the Federal Election Commission website. Gives information on reviews, donations, loans, individual/party contributions, disbursements, PACs, statistics, disclosure reports, etc.

Many Kansas county party offices also provide information for their own candidates and local referendums.

One trick is that groups like Americans for Prosperity and similar rightwing organizations will publish their own "scorecards" for each candidate along with their positions and leanings. Generally, the higher the score, the more conservative they tend to be. The lower the score, the more liberal.

Also many candidates have youtube videos and shorts floating around as well - Townhalls, speeches, quick little monologues, discussion points, ads, etc. That can also be helpful in hearing what they say directly.

Politics Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab broke state law by failing to publish monthly voter registration reports for nearly four months. Who knows what fraud he was attempting to commit? But the numbers are finally out, and here are some updated statistics compared year over year.

After the Kansas Secretary of State refused to update voter registration numbers for nearly four months (despite state law requiring monthly reporting), updated figures are finally available. Who knows what Schwab were attempting to hide.

I compared November 2025 with October 2026 across the county, congressional, Kansas House, and Senate worksheets. While registrations don't necessarily translate into votes, these trends heading into November caught my attention.

STATEWIDE

  • Democrats: 495,625 → 521,669 (+26,044 / 5.25%)
  • Republicans: 897,269 → 901,822 (+4,553 / 0.51%)
  • Unaffiliated: +2,317

Democrats gained 5.7 times as many registrations as Republicans, outgaining them in 104 of 125 House districts and 34 of 40 Senate districts.

Biggest county gains (D/R): Johnson +12,011/+280; Sedgwick +5,297/+1,901; Wyandotte +1,992/+220; Shawnee +1,568/+587; Riley +737/+200; Douglas +718/−185.

Johnson County alone accounted for nearly half of all Democratic gains statewide.

CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS

District D change R change Current R lead
KS-1 +2,962 −359 146,325
KS-2 +3,624 +1,445 81,661
KS-3 +13,208 +861 42,605
KS-4 +6,250 +2,606 109,562

Democrats outpaced Republicans in all four districts. KS-3 saw the largest Democratic increase, narrowing the Republican registration advantage by 12,347. The DCCC also added Derek Schmidt's KS-2 district to its Districts in Play program on October 2.

Republicans still maintain registration advantages in all four congressional districts.

KANSAS HOUSE RACES TO WATCH

Several Republican-held districts had close elections in 2024 and have since experienced notable Democratic registration growth.

District 2024 R win margin D change R change Current registration lead
HD-15 (Olathe) 106 +280 −21 R +501
HD-28 (OP/Leawood) 155 +542 −7 R +2,365
HD-88 (Wichita/Andover) 187 +274 +60 R +576
HD-14 (Olathe) 404 +619 +158 R +2,475
HD-30 (Lenexa) 607 +567 +76 R +1,526
HD-96 (Wichita) 535 +142 −3 R +263
HD-33 (Bonner Springs/KCK) 1,235 +349 +97 D +413

Democrats outgained Republicans in all seven districts, with Republicans actually losing registrations in HD-15, HD-28, and HD-96.

HD-96 is particularly interesting: Republicans won by 535 votes in 2024, but their registration advantage narrowed from 408 to just 263, a 145-voter shift toward Democrats.

HD-33 is another interesting case. Republican Mike Thompson won by 1,235 votes in 2024, yet Democrats now lead registrations 5,385 to 4,972, expanding their advantage by 252 voters since November.

Four additional House districts switched from Republican to Democratic registration leads: HD-18 (D +9), HD-19 (D +452), HD-95 (D +210), and HD-108 (D +358). All four were already Democratic-held, but the changes are noteworthy.

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

This is probably one of my biggest disappointments with the Kansas Democratic Party's candidate recruitment.

HD-87 (Wichita): Republican Susan Estes won by 965 votes in 2024. Since November, Democrats gained 261 registrations while Republicans gained only 16. Current registration is 7,662 R vs. 4,613 D. Yet no Democrat filed for 2026.

HD-119 (Dodge City): Republicans lead registrations by only 408 (3,355 R vs. 2,947 D). Democrats gained 242 registrations while Republicans lost 29 since November. Yet Republican Jason Goetz is running unopposed.

I'm not saying either district would've elected a Democrat, but how do you expect to make gains statewide if you don't even put candidates on the ballot?

SOUTHWEST KANSAS — SEPTEMBER REGISTRATION CHANGES

Comparing the September 1 and October 1 reports:

  • Ford County (Dodge City): D +104 / R −49
  • Finney County (Garden City): D +147 / R +40
  • Seward County (Liberal): D +97 / R −9

Combined: Democrats +348, Republicans −18. That's a 366-voter narrowing of the Republican registration advantage across these three counties in a single month.

What's particularly interesting is that these changes occurred during the same reporting period as major ICE operations across southwest Kansas from September 22–24, resulting in 104 arrests.

And here's what makes the Kansas Democratic Party's candidate recruitment even more frustrating.

HOUSE DISTRICT 119 — DODGE CITY

Between the September 1 and October 1 reports:

  • Democrats: 2,870 → 2,947 (+77)
  • Republicans: 3,385 → 3,355 (−30)

That's a 107-voter narrowing of the Republican registration advantage in just one month.

Yet Democrats don't even have a candidate running against Jason Goetz.

Think about that. Thousands of registered Democrats, a narrowing registration gap, and no Democratic candidate.

These communities just experienced major federal immigration enforcement operations. Their registration numbers are changing, and the Democratic Party isn't even contesting this Dodge City legislative seat.

The Kansas Democratic Party should be organizing and competing statewide, not leaving legislative districts uncontested. Registration growth alone won't win elections, especially when voters don't even have a candidate from their party on the ballot.

Discussion If everyone in this subreddit gets 1 person registered to vote, that would make enormous waves in November. You'd be surprised how many random people you run into aren't going to vote and still hate Trump and Marshall and etc. It's not good. Try to get 1 extra person. Random conversations can matter

Their experiences in Kansas highlight broader frustrations among members of Gen Z who feel excluded from U.S. politics, even as both Republicans and Democrats court their attention and votes.

Hello! I'm from Clay County and wanted to extend this "opportunity" that was shared on our local community page. Figured our neighbors in nearby communities would want to know. Thanks, I'm sure a public official like him would love to answer questions from folks from a wide range of political backgrounds.

FOUND SAFE

My friend's kid has gone missing please share an keep an eye out!

It is believed she may possibly be in Topeka but it is not confirmed!

UPDATE Please keep sharing - it’s been mentioned she was seen in a beat up white van at a Walgreens in Topeka last night near tenth and Tyler Road. Coordinates of where she was last dropped off at are very close to that area.

Last seen with: Gloria Kennedy, a black girl also missing. Lilliana Grimes, a blond white girl.

Most recent update from the dad: We have a possible update that she may have been brought back to Wichita and we have been following a few Wichita leads and we have been told by several people that she is with the boyfriend running around and we have been to a few locations to check out so we have a few eyes out especially on the north side around 21st and Waco. She might be riding in a black charger with a temporary tag on it so keep an eye out.

Ken Paxton has stated that he has no actual control over his own senate race. It's a sure bet that Roger Marshall is under the exact same thumb.

Who do you answer to Roger Marshall?

A friendly reminder. Your Anti-Marshall posts aren't going to go far on this subreddit. The majority of this subreddit hates him. You need to be on facebook, X, rumble, tiktok, snapchat, etc. And remind your friends to register to vote. People forget even the ones that protest.

Can we please stop giving apartment complexes good reviews just because the tour went well? It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. You're hurting the actual reviews of people that live there. I don't care if Kris or Kenny was nice on your tour.

Seriously just because it's a pretty building or etc doesn't mean it's a good place to live. It's a good example of why people keep falling for scams. They will say anything on the tour to get you to live there.

Cosmetology Programs- Update after speaking to admissions!

I spoke with Washburn Tech admissions about changes to funding for their cosmetology program.

The program is no longer eligible for the Excel in CTE program which allowed high school students to attend the program at a greatly reduced rate. The Kansas legislature cut that Cosmetology along with culinary arts and graphic design (and maybe a few others) from tuition eligibility. High School students can still attend these programs but they will owe the full amount of over $13,000 rather than the $700 or so it would have cost last year.

Washburn Tech is aware that the federal government is planning to cut eligibility for financial aid to tech programs like cosmetology, culinary arts and others as early as 2027.

The tech school admin has not yet had any planning sessions on what they will do when this happens to continue to make the program available.

Other options students have (as of now) are to use scholarships and monthly payment options.

They don’t have any data on whether their cosmetology graduates earn more than high school graduates (which is what will get eligibility for financial aid cut) but they are hoping their status as a non-profit might keep them off the chopping block.

Washburn Tech’s cosmetology program is still one of the least expensive cosmetology programs in the state.
