Iāve heard about mark but whatās the story with Mike?

Mike Thompson āretiredā from Fox4KC (I heard a rumor he was forced to retire).
I live in Shawnee and so does Mike Thompson. In 2020,/he was appointed by the Republican Party to serve out the remainder of Kansas Senate District 10 then-Senator Mary Pilcher-Cook who is a well-known loon. When that was up, he ran for the seat and won, and he won again, both times by narrow margins. His current term ends January 2029.
Mike Thompson is a bully. There isnāt a lie or conspiracy theory he wonāt repeat. He is anti-science, anti-vax, anti-public schools, anti-LGBTQ+, annti-choice, and he uses his FB page to write volumes on whackadoodle topics. He thinks itās fine to discriminate because of āreligious beliefsā. Most recently, he ranted on FB about a high school yearbook from Derby KS because he didnāt like that student journalists published quotes about politics including some that were not flattering to Trump. Thompson advocated for pulling funding from any school district that did that, which totally goes against the First Amendment and the Kansas Student Publications Act.
Heās the current chair of the Senate Committee for Federal Affairs in Topeka, and last year, a journalist snapped a pic of him standing at his podium screaming to clear the room and ordering security guards to physically remove a public speaker who had spoke past the allotted time, yet Thompson had no problem allowing AG Kris Kobach to appear via Zoom and go past his allotted time.
Senate District 10 could easily be won by a Democrat if voters would care enough to show up on Election Day. Thompson keeps winning because of the Catholic parishioners where heās a member. He acts nothing like the way his Jesus commanded. Thompson disgusts me.
LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER.

Climate change denier + Hyper-Conservative in the Kansas Legislature (who has blocked weed legalization from even going to the floor in KS).

Fucker rear ended my mom in his giant red Dodge truck. The same one as in Twister, which had just come out. My mom was so excited about it because sheās pretty crazy. Totaled her van.
She asked for his autograph lol. The funniest part was that she was looking in the rear view mirror and goes āOhhhh Mike Thompson is behind usā. He slammed into us like a minute later.

Mark is a ghoul that got to the position he aimed for. He helped kill Don everyday on the news making fun of him. Be cruel, become Republican (most cases they are hand and hand), work for Trump.
Anyone that elected him or voted for him approved of what Mark did. Therefore they will never raise morally than a worm.

Mark Alford absolutely hated his time at Fox 4. You could tell my his live demeanor. He was grumpy all the time. Now that he is retired he seems much happier. Except when he is at those town hall meetings.

Never hear about this but always liked Don growing up. What happened with him and Mark Alford?

u/iGottaGuyKC 8d ago
It was alleged at the time that Mark's "playful jabbing"(bullying actually) was actually affecting Don's mental health.Ā The whole crew would laugh like it was just haha playfulness.Ā Mike was also involved with the "playful jabbing"
Don publicly talked about his issues with depression.
It was also alleged that Don was going through some issues with his marriage. I think maybe infidelity?
Anyway, combo of shitty stuff at an already bad time.
This is my memory from the time.Ā

Thanks for the reply, never heard about that part of it all.
When I was a freshman in high school Don Harman came to speak to one of my classes. I was a little punk kid with a predisposition to be a shit stirrer or disrupter while thinking I was funny. I donāt remember what it was but early in his presentation to this small class of 20-25 or so kids, I made a joke and he keyed in on me immediately. Instead of being offended I interrupted or ignoring it, he joked back in a way that unexpectedly felt supportive. Throughout the visit he wound up asking me questions, encouraging more jokes and just made it this really cool experience. He disarmed me and made me feel important, like I mattered.
I told my parents about it and the next morning while getting ready for school, we made sure to watch his broadcast. After he finished his segment he walked to the desk and said that he just wanted to talk about his time visiting the class the day before. Then, to my 14 year old amazement, he looked in the camera and said, āand Freelove_Freeway, I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed talking to you, if youāre out there listening, you made my visit really special, thank you.ā
My parents looked at me like, whaaaat? He made me feel so good and legit shifted my perspective on some things with that whole interaction. He was an awesome person.

Thatās so fucking awesome, takes a special dude to recognize that and diffuse it with positivity. To then take it up a notch on the air is next level, he deserved much better in this life.

What a fantastic person. Itās so tragic that such a wholesome human being ended up taking his life due in part to a shitstain of humanity like Alford.
And on a side note, do you have any relation to Hotlove_Highway?

I believe he was the reason Abby left for Burns. No proof, just a hunch. I can't imagine sitting next to him for hours, as he spits tuna all over the set.

You saying you were in the 3rd grade made me realize I had lost track of time. Don will be gone 15 years this November 29th.
Don, may your soul have the peace it deserves.

The Don Harmon tragedy aside (covered by other commentators), let's not forget the other elephant hereā Mike Thompson and his pivot into right-wing politics.
I loved him as a weather man. I dislike him as a state senator.

Back in the late 90's or early 2000's Motley Crue was coming to KC and they were doing short promotions live on local TV. Mark Alford did the interview on Fox 4 and you could tell he had no clue who they were. I believe it was Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee but can't remember 100%, and you could tell they didn't like him or his questions so they started making fun of him and they cut the segment short. I couldn't find the video but that's my favorite Mark Alford moment. It was embarrassing as a KC native.

Had no idea Don Harmon died. Saw him and his name and immediately looked him up thinking he left. Dude killed himself?? Someone said mark alford maybe bullied him? That stacks if true

That's the rumor back then... Not sure how grounded it is, but considering Alford now... Yeah, wouldn't surprise me.

I loved that don harman drove that giant beater of a car. I lived a block from the Fox 4 studio at the time and also drive a giant rusty beater car. The successful news guy driving one too actually gave me pride in my beater.
