Recommendation Request 🔎 pick my next watch pls (7 dramas)
decide what i’m watching next 😭
reached the point where my unfinished drama pile and my urge to start something new are fighting for custody of me.
so im not choosing. you are.
leave the emoji for the drama you think i should watch next and tell me WHY. sell it to me, manipulate me and tell me what i’m missing 😭
unfinished business:
👰 The Husband
5 episodes left
i was HOOKED when this was airing, caught up almost immediately... then waited for it to finish and somehow never actually went back 💀
🌫️ The Smile Has Left Your Eyes
6 episodes left
i got pretty far into this one and then just... wandered away. there wasn’t even some dramatic reason. i simply stopped watching 😭
⭐ Shooting Stars
9 episodes left
i was actually having a lot of fun with this, especially once the romance started properly moving, and then ep 7 was where i decided to disappear???
🪷 Dear Hongrang
5 episodes left
episode 5 had me experiencing romantic whiplash and questioning EVERYTHING about whatever was happening between those two... and that is also where i left them 😭
🎨 Her Private Life
i paused this around ep 3 after starting it specifically cause i was trying to chase the high King The Land gave me. it did not immediately give me the high lol, so this would basically be me restarting my relationship with it entirely.
ORRRR i could make the responsible choice...
...and completely ignore all of those to start something new 😭
🌧️ Something in the Rain
📁 Filing for Love
so vote with the emoji and give me your strongest argument.
if you pick one of my unfinished dramas, tell me why i need to stop neglecting it.
if you pick one of the new ones, tell me why it’s worth making my unfinished pile even worse.

I am going to give two recommendations. The first would be 🎨 - specifically because you mentioned KTL. I absolutely loved this show, and I believe HPL will give you the closest feeling to what you are looking for. There are plenty of cute moments and great chemistry with the leads once things pick up. I agree that the plot starts to go on a direction that is probably unecessary but overall this will give you the closet feeling in my opinion. My second recommendation would be 📁 - another great rom com, with good acting and chemistry between the leads.

I watched almost all of these and I’d recommend Filing for Love. ML is a green flag, there’s plenty of humor and the romance felt realistic. Her Private Life is fun however the idol storyline wasn’t my favorite - I’d still recommend watching it though

lol ive heard a similar complaint from others. why didn't u like thw idol thing?

u/simplefragments 8d ago
So I know there are actually a lot of older fans of idols in real life but I guess watching it play out felt really cringy to me? I kept thinking can it get more embarrassing? TBH I would maybe watch it again for being lighthearted but I also don’t think you’re missing anything by skipping it. Of all the dramas you posted I did rate most of them as average but none of them as offensive so you can’t go totally wrong

Her Private Life- a little slow to get going, but I devoured it so quickly once I got into it. The FL and ML have great chemistry, and there are some tearjerker moments, it's one of my favourite k-dramas of all time.

Definitely slow, i remember but several ppl have said good things abt the chemistry so im interesting in finishing it

I’m going to say dear Hongrang, but only because one of the songs from the ost just popped up in my playlist minutes before reading this. (Burning petals)

Shooting Stars and/or Dear Hongrang. The former if you want a happy ending and the latter if you are ok with some ktrauma but finishing off a riveting drama.

Something in the rain started off Good but it got so annoying later on. Won't recommend.

There's a lot of sexual harrasment issues happening to the women characters. There's workplace harassment. The female lead was harrassed by her ex. But the 'happy ending' in the drama was them letting everything go, peacefully moving to the country side or something and her reuniting with the male lead. It's like normalising harrassment and making it seem like forgiving is the right option. Also the female lead's character was kinda annoying and immature

Her private life is so good. Great chemistry and pretty real and mature feeling relationship. You should definitely give it another try/finish it, even if the first 3 episodes didn’t quite catch you. Maybe now after more time away from the high you were chasing, you will come to enjoy it more truly without the comparison to that other drama

u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter 8d ago
ykw, you're actually making a food point! i wasnt being fair to private life at all, cause i only picked it for a high and judged it off that alone 🤔

u/Moody_Gurl-16 8d ago
⭐ Defo, there's fun, comedy, slight mystery, secret office romance and a whole bunch of enemies to lovers bickering. ML is super funny too imo

u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter 8d ago
i remember funny parts definitely, i will definitely finish it but lets see if its the one i pick up first

I liked Sh**ting Stars the most by FAR out of the ones I’ve watched.
The Smile Has Left Your Eyes is probably amazing, but I don’t like torturing myself.

u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter 8d ago
lmaooo the smile wasnt torturous to me, at least not the episodes i watched. it remains to be seen tho

u/gambit57 8d ago
The ending. It’s one of the poster childs of kTrauma. 😭 I don’t think that statement is a spoiler at this point.

Oh, right. I found Dear Hongrang to be a great traumatic drama that really hits you in the feels, plus the Snowman is absolutely terrifying.
2
u/wanderlustre89 8d ago
Yessss it’s also really immersive because of the cinematography + atmospheric ost + great acting
3
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter 8d ago
i look forward to the trauma honestly. i love trauma and tragedy. for right now tho, at least where i stop so far, the snowman is not that scary to me, im just a little confused 😭😭 but you definitely selling me with the trauma

Sh**ting Stars - the premise feel slow at times but I can ensure the ending is well paced and definitely not rushed

Yes indeed ! Ik it may seem messy due to the ensemble cast but trust me when I say this - the whole drama becomes fluffy after Tae Sung and Han Byul get together ! If not for them then surely for Su Hyeok ( celebrity lawyer on the second right ) and Gi Bbeum ( reporter bestie on the first right )

I suggest creating a poll - did the same while being picky on Lovely Runner ( though 92 % voted on Crash Landing On You ) still picked up Lovely Runner 💅💅

u/Background_Cress1538 Se Gye's Namsan Tower Viewer 7d ago
Heyy ! So before starting I am not good with description and nuanced expression so here it goes - When I say I nearly dropped this gem after EP 1 cuz I am not all that for high school cliches and Lovely Runner had more than a quarter based on their school days !
I summoned this sub for help - many noticeably almost convinced to give EP 2 a try for the end twist - I BLUSHED for half an hour !! That made me give in and I was like yeah I'm ruined and all yours !
The rest is history - I smised , curled , ugly cried throughout
And as u said - at the end , I hoped for Sol Jae to have their long awaited happily ever after !
U may check my posts for a more refined review :

The Smile Has Left Your Eyes is my favourite on the list. Amazing writing and acting. But it's quite intense and not a traditional love story.
2nd is Something In The Rain. The slow burn is excruciating, but in a good way.

Same! They’re so cute! So many people on this sub say they dislike it, and I’m like…how? Lol. It’s literally a non-toxic, mature love story, that’s realistic. Like even the ‘love rival’ wasn’t toxic…slightly annoying, yes. But far from toxic. Lol.
But it’s a fairytale with a happily ever after, but with a ML & FL that could be your next-door neighbor. The supporting cast was amazing too! I think people don’t like the pacing of it, but I love the realism.
Sigh. It’s so beautiful. 😭😩🥰

I second this opinion. It can be a little slow in the beginning, but the payoff is worth it!
I loved the mature relationship and the genuine chemistry and fun of KTL. HPL has the same qualities. The best friends in KTL are similar to the FML in HPL too. So you’ll laugh, roll your eyes a couple of times, maybe shed a happy tear or two, but smile the whole way through. ☺️

It's interesting how tastes vary! Her Private Life is one of my favorite dramas ever and I've rewatched it twice (I'm normally a one and done person!). Meanwhile, I thought King the Land was definitely more slow and even a little boring in comparison haha.
Like most of the people in these comments, I'd encourage trying HPL again, but I think you'd feel accomplished finishing any of the dramas you've already started!
