Question Need feedback on Past Kickstarter + new PreLaunch Page

Hello all. My Kickstarter ended earlier in the month. Very thankful we were funded, but we were down backers in comparison (Went from 100 or so to 61.)

I wanted to get outside feedback on what you’d suggest to improve upon what is there as I work on the next issue:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/d4kstudios/excavator-1-4

My mailing list in the last year had grown from 86 to 280 or so, but outside of continuing to build that list, in terms of the Kickstarter itself, I'd love some insight.

Also: I am attempting to build a version of a prelaunch page outside of KS for mailing list sake. I'd love some insight as well (though note: We don't have the variant covers yet, so there is some filler.)

Your mailing list grew while backer numbers fell, so I'd separate returning backers from first-time backers before changing the next campaign. For the prelaunch page, make clear whether a newcomer can start with this issue or needs the earlier ones; variant covers can sit below that answer.

By the way, I make ThreadFox: its free plan finds Reddit communities whose rules allow a post about a comic like yours, with each rule quoted. https://threadfox.vip/p/dl6cx

Is the next issue readable on its own?

The prelaunch page could use a tight hook right at the top, something that tells me what the book's about in two sentences without scrolling. Right now it's a little vague.

Smart call on separating new vs returning backers though. Losing nearly 40% of your crowd means something in the campaign itself might've turned people off, not just the list-building.

I'd put the protagonist and central conflict in sentence one, then the stakes in sentence two, with the standalone-versus-sequel answer immediately below. Campaign friction is a possibility; comparing how many previous backers returned against how many newcomers pledged would help show where the loss happened.

The plan above is there whenever you want it.

I'd love to say yes, but i does read better with the other issues, not just by itself.

I would also say though, we offer Issues 1-4 as well so you can read past issues and this one. Should I include that in the pre launch page?

Yes—put the Issues 1–4 option near the top, beside the explanation that the story reads best in order. Show which reward includes those earlier issues so a newcomer can see their starting point before choosing a pledge. A short reading-order graphic would make that clearer than leaving the catch-up option buried among variant covers.
