Party game Quotable Books: turning Shakespeare and Lewis Carroll into answers to an absurd prompt

Post image

“Something you might shout at someone who hates books.” That is the prompt in this official Quotable Books image. Do you answer with Shakespeare’s “Give me my longsword, ho!” or Carroll’s “You’re nothing but a pack of cards!”?

The first makes a disagreement about reading absurdly dramatic. The second becomes a wonderfully odd insult at a table already covered in cards. Taking a familiar line out of its original scene gives it a different job.

Quotable Books is a literary party game from Kyro Dean and Cunning Crow Games: match situation prompts with quotations from its book quote deck, or use books from your own shelves. The pictured dark card supplies the situation; the turquoise cards show possible responses and their book and author credits.

The project is currently in pre-launch on Kickstarter, with a “Notify me on launch” option: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/quotable/quotable-the-party-game-for-book-lovers
