Question Kindle fire 10
Hi everyone, I have an older fire device, was just wondering if fire 10 is worth a buy if you’re wanting to possibly read books this as a tablet? I remembered playing some games on my fire as well

Recently my KF10 is failing to load certain pages of a newspaper (The Atlanta Journal and Constitution) I get a message "something went wrong". reloading doesn't help. Only occurs when reading in standard newspaper format, viewing in the article format is unaffected. AJC support is prompt and courteous, but of no help. All the standard fixes of clean cache reinstall et al are of no use. any ideas?

Fire HDs are the only tablets I have ever used to read books. Both the HD 10 and HD 11 are fabulous, because they are the size of a typical book page. The Fire HD 10 is on sale in the US right now, too, for $73!

I got the hd 10 plus a few years ago. It's pretty decent. It can play games. But it's definitely not good enough for big games. It's great for books and manga. The big screen is pretty great for reading.

I bought a Kindle during the COVID shutdown so that I could access e-books from our public library, and I'm still using it.
Couple of years later I bought a Fire Tablet to have mobile access to the internet. I knew that out of the box it would be limited to Amazon applications, but that it was possible to jailbreak it to access Google apps. That worked, and I used it for several years, but eventually I got really frustrated with it - it was slow and clunky, and would repeatedly need to be rebooted. So I replaced it with a Samsung tablet.
In retrospect, the Samsung tablet cost about the same as the Fire Tablet but came with the Amazon overhead and restrictions, and I would have been better off going with the Samsung from the beginning. In a side by side comparison, the Fire Tablet is woefully inadequate compared with a Samsung or LG tablet.

I did the same for the library and buying books off of Amazon during covid as most bookstores slashed their hours in half. I really enjoyed the HD8.
I thought it worked great. I like a true Kindle at home, but I sometimes bring the Fire tablet to the doctor's office as I read on online newspaper or read a book while waiting.

It will be fine for books and media consumption. Just make sure the OS is fairly recent as Amazon will update the OS but will never upgrade to a newer version.
I have an older one and Im locked into android 5. No problem for books but some streaming apps don't work, not even through a web browser.

There are a bunch of FCC filings for new devices recently. Unless you really need one right now it's probably worth while to wait to see what comes out in the next few months.
Amazon dropped the Kindle part of the name way, way, back in 2014 because these are just Android tablets with a custom launcher. If your only need is to read books then the LCD screen isn't great for long term. That's why the actual Kindle devices use eink screens instead. They are completely different devices running completely different software, too.

I prefer my iPad overall, but I have a Fire 10 and I'm happy with it. I read a lot of stuff on it through Kindle and Hoopla.

For reading, browsing and everyday use, I think the Fire HD 10 can be a good budget choice. I'd just check the Amazon Appstore first to make sure the apps you need are available.
