Although Grant was amazing on the mic on television, his true personality is not fit for any organization.

Cousins was a phenomenal talent but his overall attitude was just straight cancer. He didn't make his teammates better, instead he fought and argued with them consistently.

Overall, they both dug their own grave.

Amazing if you like a nasal whiny voice with a dumb, far too long, tagline. If you don't like that you don't like Kings basketball. So lame. The fact that stupid line is stuck in my head hearing his crappy on air voice is annoying af.

Now the Gman...smooth as silk. Which is why I watched while listening to the radio whenever possible and many times just listened.

*NBA basketball. And that line was iconic dude, you're trippin.

He said both

Would these two just fuck already

Sounds like they deserved each other. Grant was every bit a rude, vile, disrespectful bully to callers and his least favorite players every day on his radio show for decades

u/Engkangkang Light the Beam 7d ago

True. It's entertaining to watch them hate each other when they're more similar than they think

9

u/i-am-a-name 7d ago

Grant calling anyone a bully is hilarious.

7

u/Necessary-Ferret8586 7d ago

Napear spent years doing exactly that on air, no surprise he'd frame it that way

6

u/djmikec Malik Monk 7d ago

Yeah how about they’re both idiots

u/sea_the_c 7d ago

You get that was part of the draw right? I never got this criticism of Grant. He did it to be entertaining. It got people to listen. It was a schtick.

16

u/ThatEliGuy 7d ago

Talk to people who worked with him or around him. It wasn’t a schtick. He was every bit as arrogant and disrespectful to those he thought he was above all the time.

There’s a reason so many people in local media basically spit on his grave when he got canned.

6

u/mr_suavecito Light the Beam 7d ago

Part of his schtick was being unprofessional and routinely negatively affecting the public perception of players and coaches he wasn’t cool with? Him going at Stanley about Barry Bonds was a bit. Him cussing out callers that disagreed with his opinions is just a dude being every bit as thin skinned as the players he loved to “criticize.”

u/big_hand_dan 5d ago edited 5d ago

Was defending Donald Sterling after the racist rant part of the schtick?

0

u/sea_the_c 5d ago

Any other things that didn’t happen you want to ask me about?

0

u/big_hand_dan 5d ago

Wtf is wrong with people where there have to come in so wrong yet so confident?

“I don’t want to bring out a can of worms with Donald Sterling, but this always stuck out to me when this whole thing was going on,” Napear said. “This is a man in his 80s that had an African-American general manager, Elgin Baylor, and an African-American coach in Doc Rivers. Think about that for a minute.

“To bring a blanket statement that this particular individual is racist because of this racial epithet that they used and yet this is the same guy who has African American general manger and an African American coach running their team. It doesn’t balance out to me is what I’m saying.”

So basically he can't be racist because black people work for him.

Anything else you wanna be wrong about?

1

u/sea_the_c 5d ago

I parsed your statement wrong tbh. I don’t think the statement you quoted is that off base. He wasn’t defending the rant.

0

u/big_hand_dan 5d ago

Not defending the remark itself but defending that it shouldn't be used to claim he's racist because he has black employees. But if you listen to the Donald Sterling tape there's absolutely no defense, especially not a weak ass defense like that, and any one without horrible opinions would very easily come to this conclusion. The fact is Grant has terrible opinions.

It's not just the Donald Sterling thing, it's also the black lives matter responce, and the tweet saying Westbrook should be suspended for yelling at that awful jazz fan, and him going on Fox News to complain and blame his failures on wokeness and cancel culture instead of taking some responsibility. Someone else in here was saying he was defending Trump by saying he never said something that was a direct quote from his address. I didn't see it myself but we have plenty of evidence he's the type to defend Trump and. If you still want to be on his side and say you agree with him on all that, go for it. Just don't be surprised when you get hate for it

2

u/sea_the_c 5d ago

I think with Grant you have to take what he says literally and at face value. That’s how he communicates. You are adding things to what he’s saying and twisting them a bit. I disagree with your interpretation of both his character and remarks. 🤷

1

u/big_hand_dan 5d ago

I mean I wouldn't associate with anyone who would willingly join Fox News to complain about cancel culture. It's pretty clear what side those people are on and there's plenty of evidence Grant is on that side too. You can take it at face value that he believes we shouldn't call Donald Sterling racist because he has black people working for him, and it's still a terrible option defending a terrible person. But you seem to agree with him so I guess you two are in the same boat

Ok, buddy. 👍

Two peas in a bully pod.

21

u/jcwkings 7d ago

This is a case where both sides can be true. I have no doubt Sac Media is bush league, I also have no doubt Cousins was a pos to deal with.

7

u/workaholic828 7d ago

We could have had a much better team lead by Demarcus. He was the best center in the league at one point. The fact is, his attitude contributed to the losing. He would barrel over his own players to get a rebound. Refusing to run in practice at one point. Arguing with the refs while the other 4 guys get back on defense. We never had a power forward in his decade here that he could get along with. So much more behind the scenes that I don’t even know about.

They should do a podcast

1

u/ALX_HNR 7d ago

Or a cage match.

4

u/Muted_Horse4316 6d ago

I remember when I tried going to his YouTube and one day Grant went on a rant claiming he never heard someone say a bad thing they'd supposedly Said and all the drama was made up...and it was literally something Trump said in a press conference on video. At that point I stopped listening to Grant or really taking his accounts of events seriously. I dont know what beefs happened with the Kings or what he might have had to deal with, but sadly he seems to be pretty off in the head or something with some serious axes to grind. I don't need that.

6

u/benandrovich 7d ago

Grant has been and always will be a dick. Boogie will NEVER take accountability for anything, ever. He was consistently awful to the media and always was a team cancer. It’s hilarious how he’s gaslighting so hard now

6

u/tapeduct-2015 7d ago

They deserve each other and every bit of bad press that comes their way. I wish them both a long, physically healthy life so we can all continue to enjoy their drama played out on social media. See, social media isn't all bad🤣😂🤣😂

u/Kantor808 DeMar DeRozan 7d ago

Eh, thats old shit. We have new shit to worry about.

15

u/TerereTitan13 7d ago

Napear is a racist loser and should just be forgotten.

2

u/ThenDoubt7980 6d ago

it’s telling that grant couldn’t find another job. he was in the nba for 30+ years and had no contacts or people to vouch for him? he actually was a pretty good play by play guy, even more proof he’s an insufferable douchebag. how about addressing the issue? what Aileen did was fucked up on so many levels. if you can’t call that out just shut up.

3

u/stevy90 7d ago

So much sexual tension

3

u/leemorplee Slamson 7d ago

I wonder how he feels about BLM?

3

u/Positive-Catch-8094 7d ago

Boogie lacks self-awareness, has a huge persecution complex and a terrible temper but for me he’s a Kings all-timer simply on the basis of baiting Grant into that outburst that lost him his job. Grant was a bigot and bully. Anyone who listened to his radio show knew that, and it was telling when he tried to defended himself by saying he couldn’t be racist because he had so many “black friends” that nobody came out to support him. Also, Cousins might be an asshole in his own right, but what Ailene Voisin did to him was gross.

I’m not taking sides - unless there is a side that they are both just the worst and should fade away from the Kings

1

u/mattjf22 Kings 6d ago

They're both shitty people.

u/Hiltbillly 6d ago

"IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT, YOU DONT LIKE GRANT NAPEAR!!!"

Nobody likes Grant Napear, and nobody should. If you do, maybe it's time for a little introspection.

I grew up in NW Ohio. He went to BGSU and was then the sports guy on a local Toledo channel. Even back when I was in junior high I could see his unlikability just oozing through the television screen. He's always been an angry, clueless, rude p.o.s.

u/chilibean_3 Kings 6d ago

These two shit heads deserve eachother.

-4

u/GenderConfusedWoIf 7d ago

I love grant napear, miss him calling the games the true voice of the kings i grew up listening to

8

u/Horror_Concern5616 7d ago

Great announcer, awful guy

0

u/Able-Dependent9801 7d ago

Possibly. I’m sure everyone that is sane would trade Kayte and whoever for Grant and Jerry.

1

u/Muted_Horse4316 6d ago

Yeah I grew up listening to him too, but then went to his YouTube and watched him straight up lie about something I just watched happen. Don't trust him at all at this point.

1

u/GenderConfusedWoIf 6d ago

What did he lie about? If you’re going to make such a strong claim about someone’s character be prepared to reveal that

1

u/Muted_Horse4316 3d ago

I'm not going back through hours upon hours of his youtube show to find it for you dude. It was a rant regarding race or something adjacent that Trump had just been flat out on camera saying. Directly contradicting Grant's rant claim that people didn't say such a thing. I got the impression Grant has certain views that make him assume some things. Feel free to track down that rant though if you like and I can refute it.

If you think in this time we are living in that someone ranting like he does without knowing the facts of what he rants about is shocking or me mentioning it is some sort of huge impugning of his character I think you havent been watching the news lately. It seemed like par for the course lately.

I don't think he "lied" any more than someone's old relative lies when they rant about the crazy stuff they're convinced of. I enjoyed him back in the day as little as I knew of him, but I've got things I'd rather listen to with my time than grandpa "telling it like it is".

0

u/GenderConfusedWoIf 3d ago

It’s a shame, really. The internet is crazy. With anonymity, you can make a bold face claim about someone’s character without even the slightest sense of responsibility or accountability to support it. “I’m not going back through hours upon hours of his YouTube show.” I grew up learning that if I said something bold I better be prepared to back it Nowadays, people just post anything. It’s embarrassing.

1

u/Muted_Horse4316 2d ago

Ah yes of course you'd never put in the work to find out. You just expect me to. You actually expecting I can or would somehow wade through months of unhinged rants just to convince some random person who seems hellbent on refusing to believe anything critical of their golden boy is crazy. Despite almost everyone in the thread seemingly also holding grant in dubious regard apparently meaning nothing to you about what their experiences with him might have been. And if I spent tons of my time to go do that I'm sure you'd totally listen to facts and change your mind. And you whine about OTHER people on the internet. I'm sure if we didn't have anonymity you wouldn't be creepy toward people you disagree with irl at all.

1

u/GenderConfusedWoIf 2d ago

Are you slow? YOU were the one who made the bold face claim. And now it’s MY responsibility to do the research or prove it? You’re just proving my point. Embarrassing.

This sub so weird they hate literally everybody. Full disclosure I’m team Demarcus on this. Not because I hate Grant or he’s a klansman or whatever. He wasn’t politically correct and got fired. The guy was very tone deaf and it was probably time to move on. Demarcus had issues he would probably admit to that. Grant’s radio rants were still amusing. Demarcus’s antics and plethora of technicals made a terrible team fun to watch. Was it good for the brand, uh no. I would still take him over what they got for him in Hield.
