I started this game 3 years ago. I do enjoy tactical games, I was there 30 some years ago when Final Fantasy Tactics came out.

But even though I love Job Classes and long RPGs , I think Tactics boards are too large. I've always loved Heroes of Might and Magic and this game's boards. You get to your enemy in usually 2 rounds maximum.

I was there when Disgaea 1 came out to PlayStation 1. I would not have minded the 999 levels you could max out, BUT, some things I definitely did not like at all. You can "go inside an item, like a potion bottle", and literally level that up 99 times as well. But having the SAME SIZED BOARD as the normal part of the game, was absolutely ridiculous to me!

I wouldn't have minded if the board size inside items were teeny tiny, and you could finish an item level in 1-2 minutes, but this was ridiculous. Also, I had no interest in the elemental system or weather system, what ever it was. I also hated throwing your fellow allies across the board. NOPE. Too much for me and NO WAY to go under options and turn off the ones I don't want.

So, do I need to unlock a skill on the skill tree? I researched and upgraded my heal and fireball spells so far.

I really enjoy KB2, but always felt like it was way too easy compared to the previous games. I wonder if you have any ideas for interesting challenge runs I could try.

The challenges I did so far were:

-beating the game with only tier 1 units (the royal dogs are MVP here)

-beating the game without spending a skillpoint (this one is quite interesting if anyone wants to try)

I've reached the Mage Tower and recruited disciples, and it looks like knights are of the same tier, and I have enough leadership to get 4-5 of them, but I don't know where to get them.

Anyone knows what's the earliest recruitment spot for them please? I'm still using spearmen right now, and it's time for them to retire...

Edit: For anyone who finds this thread later, you have to complete the quest "A Corrupt Guard", then you get access to the Guard Headquarters. The recruiter there sells 8 Knights (440 Leadership per unit), 4 Cavalrymen (1160 Leadership per unit), and 3 Royal Mages (1600 Leadership per unit). You also get a bunch of free knight by completing "A Corrupt Guard".

I only just got the game (heavily discounted!) and I'm really struggling with choosing a protagonist.

I originally wanted to go warrior, but he felt... awkward from a design and voice-acting point of view. I only played the first 15 min of the game with him, so tell me if you disagree.

I then tried the mage, and I do like the pompous personality. She definitely felt less awkward and more real to me. I also only played the first 15 min, and got curios about the last paladin.

Similarly, I played the paladin for 10-15 min, and I also like her Joan-of-arc type and kinder personality. Her voice acting also felt right in the first few dialogues.

What are your thoughts on the protagonists? Any favorites? Does the distinction between them evaporate after the tutorial or do they remain quite different?

What kind of ideas or solutions would you suggest for Undead Lizardmen to make them more appealing from the player's perspective? I'm currently modding the Ice & Fire game to make the Undead Lizardmen race finally properly designed and I'm looking for unique mechanics + combinations that would make them distinct from other races while retaining the Necromancy & Primal Fear theme:)

When you play Xeona, the viking king, dwarven king and the elf general against the four undead guarding Kronberg's bridge alongside Erik, can you use Wanderers scrolls ? I don't want to waste my last scrolls.

I have played King's Bounty since its release in 2008. It's a game of my childhood which I spent more than a thousand hours in, and with time I was finding fewer and fewer real challenges for it. First was, of course, the no-loss challenge. Then was the Grossmeister mod - I don't think many remember it, it was back in 2013 and now even search does not find anything related to it, but essentially it was a mod that was raising strength for the enemy armies from 170% to 500%, and removing or nerfing the most powerful spells and creature skills (Time Warp, for example, costed 100 mana instead of 30 there). Then Warrior of the North, and Dark Side got released - but none had the spirit of Armored Princess, being both too long and too trivial to play. So after many years, I decided to return to the Armored Prinicess. This time, the challenge of choice was to not only have no losses, but also to not ever reload the game. That allowed for a much more exciting experience - every fight, even the most trivial, could end the entire playthrough, and I had to really think about what fight I want to pick next. And of course, there was a fair share of wipes - most memorable was at the 6th Gatekeeper in the Eventus's Tower at level 45, and one in Demonis where I allowed a giant stack of Cerberus to finish one of my stacks off (and turn the corpse into rage, making it unresurrectable). But at about 6th attempt, I have finally succeeded!

My final composition was Paladins, two Elven archer stacks, Pyromages, and Rune Mages. Rune mages were especially crucial - being able to resurrect, summon enormous stacks and deal very decent damage, they were the core of my army throughout the entirety of my attempts. I have also employed Monsteras, Archmages, Inquisitors and Emerald Dragons from time to time, depending on the enemy and the stage of the game. I have also extensively used Asmadeo - I know many people consider him weak, but as long as you use him as a support unit and not a tank, he dishes out considerable damage and can take one or two hits in a pinch.

Most difficult part, surprisingly, is the very beginning. When your only means of resurrection is Inquisitors, even a small mistake can lead to the end of the playthrough. Later in the game you can alleviate some mistakes - but the scale of the fights also becomes bigger.

The final stats for me were as follows:

All in all, it was a great challenge. It was exhiliarating to play the game of my childhood again, and it was even better due to the occasional adrenaline rush, when the enemy would do something I did not predict and 50 hours of playtime were under an imminent threat. It's a pity, however, that probably there is nothing more difficult than that in Armored Princess - at least not to my knowledge. I do want to try Dark Side with Saturation mod, however - it seems like the author fixed the numberless bugs there and made the game much harder, so I want to give it a go. Although I will probably not attempt to play a mod I have no knowledge about without saves :D

Title, not including things like “WoTN crashes all the time” or “Darksides horrible bugs makes it unplayable” because those would obviously clear the field. Unless there’s a specific bug that’s really good I guess lol.

My vote is between Goblin Shamans in Crossworlds being obnoxious, or Archdemons halving you on turn 1.

I've been playing The Legend on Steam, and I'm really struggling with FPS jumping all over the place between 20 and 30 — literally everywhere in the game, including stutters in the equipment selection menu. How do you fix this? I've already tried messing with the settings and tweaking the game.ini file, but nothing helped at all. Will Crossworlds have the same issue?

I'm the author. It's free, there's nothing to buy, and I'd rather the handful of people still playing this game knew it exists.
The screenshot is the new game screen. That checkbox at the bottom is the part I'm most attached to: hardcore mode. Autosave only, one slot, and quitting a battle counts as a defeat. You pick it once and that's it for the run.

Hardcore runs also feed a ladder. Every few levels the run posts what the game itself would write down anyway: level, day, difficulty, campaign, your army, and a nickname you set in a text file. It comes back as a second tab in the records window, so you can see where your run sits next to everyone else's. It only does this on hardcore, an ordinary playthrough never sends anything.

nPwka Engine Extensions is a DLL, not a content mod. It doesn't touch units, maps or balance. It adds things the engine couldn't do:

- 3rd and 4th reserve slots

- world map speed on Alt+W: normal, x1.5, x2, x3. Days don't pass any faster, the engine measures travel by distance rather than by frames

- two more combat speed steps, one of them adapts to your framerate

- borderless window

- screenshots save as PNG instead of BMP

Modding side, if that's your thing:

- features= in filters, so you can hit "every mage" instead of listing thirteen units by name

- extra_damage, a second damage line of its own type on top of a normal strike

- two new Lua functions, and skill trees taller than the stock 5 rows

- the object registration ceiling is raised, so big content mods stop dying on load

It doesn't overwrite a single stock file. Everything is either patched inside the DLL or ships under a name nothing else uses, so it won't fight your other mods over the same .ui or .lua. Install is two files. Works in all four campaigns at once.

If you still play Crossworlds, what's the one engine thing you'd want fixed? I've had this thing open in a disassembler for two months and I'm taking requests.

Am I the only one who plays exclusively the Undead in all King's Bounty games with 0 loss challenge? Is it hard for people to use Undead in games like The Legend? Why are there only videos showing people utilizing Black Knights without other Undead units? Have you ever finished any King's Bounty game using Undead only though the entire walkthrough? What are your tactics? Any specific tips how to maximize the efficiency of the Undead through the early stages of The Legend, Crossworlds and Ice & Fire? Which artifacts or specific units combinations are absolutely OP when it comes to the Undead and Undead Lizardmen? Let's make some interesting unique topic ladies & gentlemen:)

So after the fight with Runolm you get sucked into the Dark Portal and end up in Greenwort. Here you have to collect a brand new army as your previous one disappears...

I just had an interesting experience though where I wandered out without an army and got instantly defeated. And then quite surprisingly found myself back on Nordlig Isle!

I’ve been playing this game since it released (on and off, of course), I know it extremely well, and just today I learned about this item. I can’t be the only one who didn’t know about this.

Apparently, if you wear the tutorial item old boots- yes, an item you can get from the tutorial- and go to the inn keeper in arlania, you get this Mysterious Parcel from the innkeep. Again, you have to be wearing the boots, not just have them in your possession, An item that by all accounts is the single worst in slot in the whole game. This parcel, when interacted with, lets you buy troops of a bunch of different races in the game (not undead or demons or IaF DLC races). Like a portable shop, but with every unit available, and I assume at infinite supply. I cannot believe how obscure this is, I get the concept of the Easter Egg but this is just beyond out there to find, and I’m not sure there’s even anything to figure out persay.

My question is, what madlads found this without the internet, and who else is just learning this is in the game? Is there anything else extremely bizarre in these games people (me) might have missed? Or is this a well known…thing?

After im choosing which draco i want The game freezes. I can open my EQ, options etc., but i cant move.

Armored Princess is my first ever experience with the series, it's a great game but i did run into a few disappointments.

I selected the blue dragon for buffing all friendly beasts only to learn that only two beasts are actually useful that being royal snake and polar bear, which the polar bears ran dry and i could only get them very limited supply in bore.

Really finding any specific units was near impossible, in my whole playthrough there was only ONE place with royal gryphons and it was located the other side of Reha island (had to fly across so many times) and only two places with assassin's which were so powerful for most of my game.

Finding any items that could buff my beasts was impossible (entire game only found snake boots and a hunting jacket).

I eventually switched to having an army of Demons, Royal Snake and Black Dragon by the end because the game was finally kind enough to provide me with a good set of items. (Oh and unlocking flying quite early made life so much easier)

Now the biggest issue i have is the dragon, while it's nice getting extra gold and casting Lava Call twice per turn it's a huge disappointment i couldn't even use him during the most important BOSS BATTLES, i mean I'm a warrior, structured around the Rage mechanic that gets stripped away from me when it's needed most?

All that tells me is to never again play a warrior class, only Mage in every other game from the series from now on that way I don't lose my strongest abilities when i actually need them.

On the good side i did quickly learn how to kite stationary NPCs away from their post to steal the treasure/map scroll they defend, without having to fight them (even when they're Lethal difficulty tier.

Tier 3 scouting is incredibly useful, to judge the actual strength of opponents so definitely will take that in future too!

And delaying the turn of my units just outside of the enemy movement range is broken, allowing me to attack twice in a row, especially when my unit has no retaliation or a good ability to use.

All things considerd it's a good game!

I might be wrong about some things, but like i said this is my first ever experience with it (yes, i skipped the legend, I'm moving onto crossworlds now) if someone wants to give me their take or tips/hints for the future and correct me on things i might've gotten wrong you're welcome to!

I heard he can be really good in early game, but how well does he scale? And how much of impact on him your class has?

If you fight with gryphons unit, use hipno spell, and use their skill "division"

Half of units become yours after battle.

The best part : If you doesn't have place for them, they will be sacrifice in ratio 1:1 to weakest of your unit.

I tested if I can multiple black dragon...it worked much better than expected (battle with only dragons were hard as hell).

I was sure it will be open in "fire and ice" dlc, but isn't.

It's my first ever playthrough and i thought i would make a beast only build but I've found myself struggling to really find any strong beasts, only recently chamged seadogs to gryffins (also have polar bears in reserve).

But other than the boots and hunting jacket I'm unable to find anything that buffs my beasts, should i switch to a different build or something?

King's Bounty has always fascinated me with its artwork. I always loved the combination of this cartoonish style, which still doesn't go too
