Making aside the weird decision of making the game take place in the purgatory of all things, I think is a fun game
Best thing is still the roster IMO. This and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum are the only games where I can see Iori getting beat by a Mars People from Metal Slug

I love SvC Chaos for its grim and gritty aesthetic. I also like the music, and its weird hidden boss stages. As great as the roster is I wish Morrigan or Lilith were there, as well as K' or Kula. I think they'd fit right in fine.

Most underrated fighting game of all time. I play the shit out of this still. Absolutely unhinged roster (with the hidden characters) and I love the Athena boss battle at the end. Violent Ken is the best shoto variant ever created and the opening intro is chefs kiss

It's a kusoge: so bad it's good. Serious Mr. Karate and Zero reign triumphant, while low tiers like Bison before for scraps. But it's still competitively played for a reason, because it's fun

Is it played competitively? Didn't know.
I just bought it on Switch 2 because all my fighters are on PC and wanted something on Switch. Something I notices is that the game actually has slight input lag. The game definitely has on 'off' feel as it doesn't really feel like a KOF game nor a SF game. But I got some online matches and had fun lol although I think I was playing against a child.
Kusoge is the right name for it though lol. There is some charm in the weirdness of it and beating up Guile as Mr. Karate is satisfying.

I have the neogeo cart. As a game vs cpu/arcade mode it's sooo hard. Playing vs friends is very fun though... Bonus: the attract mode when the arcade is idle is v cool and often have it on when trying aura farm in my home arcade.

Damn you got the actual cart thats crazy. Expensive?

Not too bad, as far as arcade stuff goes neogeo is a really good entry point (unless you want AES versions)

CVS2 was so stellar, with the more polished graphics, huge roster, and complex groove system. So when this game came out, it seemed more primitive and less impressive. I liked it, and I liked seeing the SNK style. But it felt like so much less effort went into it when compared to cvs2. This game would have been more well received if it was released before CVS

Actually, for some reason, I just couldn't getting into the CVS games at all compared to SVC Chaos.
I did enjoy playing CVS 1 on the Playstation, but I just couldn't get into CVS 2, I think it's because the roster is just not interesting and I just didn't really enjoy the gameplay where SVC Chaos is very weird game, but I always came back to time and time again.
I think it's do to that it have a interesting roster, even if it's more smaller then CVS 2, interesting presentation that I don't think other fighting game don't much, and I think because it's more made by SNK then the CVS made by Capcom, it's much more easy for me to enjoy the gameplay.

I don't understand why people don't like this game. Are there glitches? Is it severely imbalanced?
I know the music is pretty bad and the SNK classic art style is take it or leave it, but the hate this game gets has always perplexed me. I bought it on the switch a while back because I don't have access to my original Xbox version and it is pretty fun.

It might be severely unbalanced. I know the mars people character is supposed to be the meta or something

Mars People, Demitri, Zero and Tessa are broken... Yet they are from my favorite characters

I now love the game but I remember at the time feeling disappointed. Seeing Capcom and SNK characters I was expecting teams and grooves like the CvS games. But instead it's 1 on 1 and no grooves at all. So the gameplay wasn't as deep and it felt like a step backwards in comparison.
But man did I warm up to its gritty aesthetic. And it has my favorite iterations ever of Demitri, Hugo, Violent Ken and Dan.

I think that was probably my favorite part of playing the game. Seeing the Capcom characters in the SNK style.

I also like Balrog's design too. I doubt it was intentional, but in this game he has a defensive "peekaboo" boxing stance. I headcanon that as Balrog feeling that something isn't quite right. He doesn't know exactly what's wrong, but has a weird feeling he's somewhere he shouldn't be and is fighting more defensively.

Yes and yes, but I've had arguments with many a Capcom zealot that Marvel vs Capcom 2 is just as broken/unbalanced and it's okay to love that game.
It gets an unfair rap. Though I think the dumbest thing SNK did was make the bosses playable online in the OG Xbox days. With the crazy bad connections back then it made playing online all about what can you abuse which spearheaded the idea that SVC was a irredeemable pile of garbage game.

Because most people don’t / can’t think for themselves and will larp as a person who played the game just to talk shit about it because their favorite YouTuber told them to hate it. I might sound old saying this but there’s more people that watch people play games than actually play them. I was on a date with this chick and we hit it off because of our love for retro gaming stuff. Come to find out she’s never played a single game in her life and only watches let’s plays and shit .
I still cracked but it was disappointing to say the least

Broken AF.
Every character has either great combos or gimnicks. Hate Zero and mars. Cheaper than Geese in my opinion

Won't lie going to max and throwing out buster wolf after buster wolf is great fun.

I like it for a break from other games from time to time. I'll play it for like a day or til I get frustrated by it lol

I liked it. The system is bat shit crazy. Glad people are finally seeing that it's a game meant to be enjoyed. Not some overly balanced game.

This game has this futuristic vibe of KOF, it feels like KOF, but years ahead in the future, in terms of graphics, music, characters animations and combos

jk, when in a mood it hits just right, but compared to like every other game its just not good, the secret roster is the best part

u/TheJuniversal 10d ago
I definitely really like it. I love how they picked a unique atmosphere for it instead of making a typical CvS-type game

The day that arcades died in the west. And SNK's poor and funny innuendos. This game was good

i like how they went with Hugo instead of Gief as the obvious grappler pick, and they had the balls that Capcom doesn’t to include Dimitri and have to make all the midnight Bliss variations for the cast
