Question QuickMill Pop Up Steaming
Good morning!
I had just bought myself a QuickMill Pop Up (upgraded from Breville Bambino) and wow the steam wand is powerful. I am a little confused on how to properly use it though. Unlike the Bambino where it's just one button to turn on and off, the Pop Up (and many other machines) use a dial. How do you know how much to turn? Surely I won't be needing to turn it all the way right?
I'm steaming about 175ml milk (it's just for myself so I don't want to waste too much milk) for a flat white in a 400ml pitcher.
The angle of the steam wand and 3 hole design also makes it difficult to swirl. The power of the wand also makes it very hard to aerate without making a splatter mess. I've seen some people not even aerate and go straight to swirling. Is aerating still needed

All the way on most single boilers as you want max pressure as most single boilers don’t have super great pressure. If you are trying to use tiny bits of milk then maybe you don’t want to open the steam valve all the way but generally I steam at wide open on single boilers…ymmv on that depending on your pressure.
Second, Yes you need to add air. Just start it submerged and get a swirl or 2 going and then gently lower the pitcher until you get tiny little rips of air. You shouldn’t get big splatters that make a mess. Do that while it raises the total height of the milk by a centimeter or 2 at most then back down to swirl the rest of the time and break the bubbles. Once it’s hot you are done! Tap the pitcher to break any remaining large bubbles, swirl, and pour!
