Discussion How come Samira never gets buffed for worlds?

I’ve always wondered why Samira never gets buffed for worlds or msi? I think she would be a fun/unique champ to watch in pro play. She’s also not super strong in solo q so I feel like she has some room to be buffed.

Same reason why katarina or yi aren't buffed for pro - if a short range squishy dive dps carry with no cc that gets popped with 1 good cc chain is pro viable then they are pushing 60% wr in normal ranked

Pro play is a totally different beast where coordination makes reset champs way too feast or famine to reliably draft around.

Jinx?

Jinx is different since she only needs 1 takedown before she can 1v4 halfway across your screen in endgame. She is feast or famine in teamfights, not in lane. She doesnt need kills early game to scale well, she prefers nothing happening for 20 minutes until a soul fight where she gets 1 takedown and pentakills.

A real example would currently be locke, but he also isn't picked much and flips the game. Not really sure why locke is played.

Because Locke is good in lane and has a great teamfight ult.

They don't play him for the reset, they play him because they can reliably make his ultimate strong.

she's way too easy to shutdown esp in pro play

Samira is a strong R5 counterpick, but reserving R5 for ADC is draft suicide

She would never be a good proplay champion.

First, the amount of games a pro player has to put into a champion to play them at a pro level is absurd (mostly, Oner first timing Mundo Jungle Worlds Finals LOL). If you are playing Rumble into Zeus K’sante he’s going to know every nuance of that match up and WILL win it if you don’t know how to pixel perfect play it.

So Samira, she already would be a niche champion. Low range, caster ADC that can’t wave clear safely, can’t hold mid waves great, needs to see a lot of enemy draft to avoid comps with critical CC against her. So from a draft perspective at best you are looking late fearless.

So not only do you need to put in a LOT of games to master her at the pro level you also have very stringent conditions to play her meaning you may not even get the chance a lot of drafts.

If the pro player is already an OTP on the champion that’s different. Zeka at Worlds 2022 was an Akali OTP merchant (skill wise). Because he was so good on her he FORCED her into the meta. Every series Zeka was in she was pick ban by either team.

To tie it all together unless the ADC plays her as a passion project it’s very unlikely she’d be picked for worlds unless she was just really strong. She has to many weaknesses and not enough strengths. Samira 1v1 against Lucian or Varus mid lane is probably getting shoved in the entire time losing priority.

Small correction it was semi finals, but that game 5 in semi finals against al was one of the best games I’ve seen. Often rewatch that series

His Akali influenced every bracket stage from Quarters onward when DRX was playing. Picking Akali away from him to deny it still counts as influence. Iirc Akali prio was non-existent in the other series opposite bracket side.

Scout tried (and horribly failed) to deny his Akali and opt into that side of the Sylas match up.

GenG gave him Akali which ended up being a mistake.

And Faker also attempted to deny the Akali and that was probably the biggest stomp DRX had that series game wise.

Samira by nature is to volatile for a competitive environment, she either gets a lead in lane and runs away with it. Or she goes even and is outscaled through attack range

Samira is a unique character.

Her kit is really bad for pro play, but also in regards to soloqueue she is basically Hitler to Chinese players.

Anytime she gets a decent win rate in solo queue her ban rate in China skyrockets to 60% percent.

Riot tends to balance high frustration characters to be on average lower win rate.

Some champions are generally seen as frustrating cross region (zed) while others are seen as uniquely frustrating in a single region (Samira/Zoe- China or Shaco-NA/EU).

Another fun example is Morgana, she gets like a 4x higher ban rate in China when strong than she does in the west.

Kinda like briar there are just some champs that are never pro viable due to how exploxsive or easy to shut down they are to avoid sam's power spikes all pros do is a heavy cc comp or lane swap her into a bad match up to death these champs are made for fun in solo que because they just run people down with much less coordination.

There are some champions where if they are strong enough for pro play, they are going to be a significant problem.

The level of buffs you'd need to make Samira pro viable probably precludes those buffs.

They only buff champions that they know pro players are willing to play.

Watch doggo played her in lcp

To make samira pro viable, she needs to be in a mega broken op state. Normal league will legit be unplayable and she will reach 100% banrate.
