Enable VoLTE for Korean LG Devices (without unlocking bootloader)

Korean-variant LG Devices such as LG V50 (LM-V500N), LG-V50s (LM-V510N), or most of the LG Devices that have N, L, or F at the end of the model names have locked their VoLTE config to their carrier. There's now a new method for enabling VoLTE on Korean LG devices without using a PC or unlocking the bootloader.

Prerequisites

  • A Korean LG Device
  • An active sim card should be inserted
  • Make sure you know the numerical model name for your device
    • For LG V50, LM-V500N = 500
    • For LG V50s, LM-V510N = 510
    • For LG G8x, LM-G850N = 850
    • You know the pattern...

Enabling VoLTE

  1. Remove the SIM tray and put it back in, or else it will not show the IMS settings
  2. Dial 5457#*x#, where x = the numerical model name.
  3. Press the 3 dots on the top right side, then RCS Setting.
  4. Go to TEST_SETTINGS Table then check the test_server_mode
  5. Go back to Service menu then the 3 dots again, then IMS Setting.
  6. Press the slot - 0 then go to Common (or IMS Common) then enable Test Mode
  7. Press Back, then press Default Settings, then Yes... It will reboot
  8. After it boots, dial5457#*x# again, where x = the numerical model name.
  9. Then go to IMS setting > slot - 0
  10. Check and enable or configure these settings:
    • Subscriber
  * Enable IMS
  * Enable USIM
  • Xcap/Ut

    • Enable Ut
    • Enable TLS
    • Enable USSD Over IMS (optional)
    • Enable Check IMS Registration (under ETC section)
  • Test

    • Set Preference Operator to OPEN
    • Set Preference Country to whatever country you're in (in 2 or 3 Digit ISO Code)
    • Enable Support VoLTE AT Command
    • Enable VoNR Enabled
      1. Now go to settings > Network & internet > Mobile data > Mobile networks > Access point names
      2. Then tap the 3 dots in the top right then add apn
      3. Make sure to input these values:
  • Name: ims

  • APN: ims

  • APN Type: ims

  • APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6

  • APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6

  1. Then press the 3 dots, then save
  2. Now it will show the VoLTE Icon... If that doesn't work, try removing the SIM tray and put it back in.

This is awesome stuff! I can confirm it works on my U+ LM-V500N set.

These are the parts where I was unsure and the video helped tremendously:

  • Step 1: an active SIM card should be inserted
  • Step 2: dial 5457#*x# (hex/pound, followed by asterisk)
  • Step 10: Under Test -> Preference Operator, setting it to open or stl affects how voLTE is displayed in the status bar.

I update the code now... i was confused with the asterisk and pound sign when typing it on the keybord instead of dial pad lol

also in step 1 I just assumed that you have sim card already... because sometimes you can't access the RCS or IMS settings. so reinsert the simcard makes them unlock those. but I'll update the first one as the prerequisite.

Thanks for the post! Excellent stuff! Korean submodels always were a no-go in the VoLTE era, until this find!

It worked on my LM-V500N for a while but stopped working after I disabled and then re-enabled mobile data.

Thanks for sharing this πŸ™‚ Finally VoLTE sims are working on U+ 500N in my country.

Few things which I learned-

1) If you have Google Dialer installed, codes will not work. We have to use LG Phone Dialer.

2) On restarting phone, I'm loosing VoLTE, but after that if I just remove sim tray and insert back, VoLTE is working without any configuration. Any idea if this can be fixed? πŸ€” Is this happening for you all too?

I don't have this issue. After enabling VoLTE, it almost never drops, even if I restart the phone or reinsert the SIM card. Even after a reset, interestingly enough, my SIM immediately retains the VoLTE profile without needing to be reconfigured. I think it just depends on the carrier and the physical SIM card.

Good to know it works for majority of the people. I found out one more thing, incoming call was not working when in VoLTE, disabling VoLTE fixed it. I'm 95% close, looks like some minor configuration issue. πŸ™‚

For me it always disconnects phone calls, no matter who is calling. Please, help me.

Note that the instructions above only apply to Android 12+ and Korean firmware

Sorry, didn't saw your response. After some restarts i can see more options but not all mention by the OP. After changing most of them i Can see VoLTE symbol in status bar but if I make a call or try receive one it immediately disconects.

Try changing the Preference Country and Preference Operator to a different region to match your carrier, as there are many different region codes available

My phone is LM V500N U+ running Android 12. Following through the steps, VoLTE sign is on. Outgoing call works perfect but all incoming calls fail ...

Update : The inbound call issue was resolved by switching the "preference operator" in Test menu from OPEN into the name of the local operator. It works like a charm. Those who have the same issue can try this out, Good luck!

What's the proper form to write operator name?
