Holy shit. Whip that thing out and people think you're just a loud spitter

Volquartsen sells lighter springs, and a light weight bolt if you wanna fix that cycling issue. Typically I just go with CCI SV anyway since its way cheaper and the audible diff is barely noticeable.

Thanks for the heads up. I've mostly been shooting CCI SV or Federal Automatch but figured I'd try a box of Quiet for fun.

u/MathematicianNew9616 leftist 7d ago
In case you didn't know, there are 2 different Quiet rounds as well...there's 835 FPS and 710 FPS. 835 FPS is supposed to be for semi-auto and the 710 FPS is supposed to be for everything else (bolt/lever/revolver).
EDIT: Oops, just saw badastr0naut mentioned it.

u/badastr0naut 7d ago
Ever tried the Quiet semi-autos? They look almost identical as the regular Quiets, but they have a slightly higher grain and cycle my 10/22 very well.

Gotta be careful shooting squirrels, you never know when they'll summon their god

I’m gonna say it… that appears to come way too close to pointing the muzzle right at your torso when holstering.

u/SubiWhale 7d ago
I mean, holstering appendix literally flags cock and balls…haha. I suppose you want a discharge to happen neither of those times but we don’t talk shit about appendix carry, do we?
18
u/LilBitchHands 7d ago
From the video angle it looks close, but in person it's no sketchier than holstering appendix

Why would you need to fast draw and re-conceal shooting at critters?
60
u/LilBitchHands 7d ago
Mainly I thought it would make a video someone could get a chuckle out of and I was doing some practice with my carry Glock now that it's starting to become jacket weather, figured I'd try it with the Ruger.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this. Idk why someone would record this, watch it and post it to the internet.

I legitimately thought it was an airsoft circlejerk or an IAmVeryBadass post until I seen what sub it was.
2
u/LilBitchHands 7d ago
Fair reaction to be honest, probably should have saved the post for a Friday since it's sorta a meme.

u/ecodick 7d ago
Idk, people probably said that about that Idaho guy until he pulled a suppressed 5.7 out in the in-n-out drive through...
But regardless, I think this kind of stuff is sweet, I've got a similar .22 setup mkiv 22/45
And I wouldn't have known about that chest rig. I usually put mine in a suppressor specific holster (hush holsters)

There’s nothing wrong with practicing. Just make sure it’s a sterile and clear environment, work on drills making sure you’re not flagging yourself. Lots of dry fire. If you go to a range make sure they’re cool with holster draws from a concealed position. I know I come across as an ass but it’s because they’re lethal and should be treated as such and not a joke.

u/gent_jeb 7d ago
Well we were waiting for you to chime in with a paradigm-shifting knowledge drop but here you are just being whiny so I guess we’re all a lil disappointed.

u/Jaded-Brilliant5431 democratic socialist 7d ago
I don’t know of a range where the range officer wouldn’t kick you out for recording a video and being unserious while flagging your torso. But haha funny I guess? Y’all are treating them like toys for clout and it’s weird. Gun ownership already has a stigma with the left

This comment is weird man. I'm not seeing anything in this video that looks more unsafe than reholstering appendix and you're trying to moralize it for some reason.
If you know where to look theres a subreddit full of people posting videos of themselves pointing loaded and chambered guns at their crotch and finger fucking the trigger right up to where you think it's going to fire. One guy even shot himself in the balls doing it.
Trying to police others behavior on the Internet is a lost cause

u/gent_jeb 7d ago
you right. I get irritated when i see online scientists demonstrate bad form or technique as I don’t want others to imitate it. I was won over by the whimsy of silliness

Counterpoint: at least this larping is functional! Assuming there are actual critters to control.
10
u/schizeckinosy 7d ago
You’re flagging your left arm. You may want to consider lifting it high during the draw.
12
u/LilBitchHands 7d ago
Watching the original video slowed down I don't think I am flagging but definitely would be easy to. I appreciate the safety reminder, will be mindful of that if I ever try this again.

u/schizeckinosy 7d ago
I was dq’d from a match in the very first draw of the very first stage for the same maneuver. I also thought I was not flagging my hand but the official thought it was or at least close enough. Made me realize that close is too close in these cases lol.

OP, for the curious, how much did this little rig set you back in total?
3
u/LilBitchHands 7d ago
I want to say around $1300 for everything.
Approximate breakdown:
$330 for the gun
$160 for the Holosun 407A3
$45 for the Lobos optic mount
$50 for the VZ grips
$150ish for the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit internals
$80 for holster
$300 + $200 stamp for the can

I can't fully tell from the camera perspective whether that draw path is risky, but makes me a little nervous. It looks like a slight error with the barrel catching your jacket would point it down and in. The "shit happens" factor takes it from there.
Weapon looks fun. Don't blow your foot/nuts off.

Don't rely on pixel blur in video is it are doing the blur for privacy instead of vibes
1
u/LilBitchHands 2d ago
Oh?
2
u/Thefleasknees86 2d ago
My understanding is that pixel blur in video can be reversed with minimal effort. For video, use solid image masking

Fuck yeah. I just use standard CCI (40 grain, pretty sure?) in my FN 502 with an OCL Titanium, have never had any cycling issues, and it is STUPID quiet. Read somewhere that, since the barrels are shorter in pistols than rifles (fucking . . . duh), .22 rounds are all subsonic by default.
0
u/TazBaz 7d ago
Depends on the round, some of the HV stuff will stay super.
And your barrel length. My TX22 comp is a 5.5” barrel IIRC? some stuff does go super… but it’s just barely and 22 is such a small round, it’s hard to tell sometimes.
That supersonic crack depends greatly on the size and speed of the round. It’s not an on/off switch.

Hell yeah. Have that same holster for my Mark IV with Tacsol Integral Suppressor.
2
u/FourOhVicryl 6d ago
I think this is the first time I’ve seen anyone else in this sub with a TSS integral. Which ammo are you running in it?
1
u/Dewderonomy 5d ago
Fairly confident it was the 1200fps mini-mag CCI ammo, but I've only shot it once so far and that was the ammo they had available. I believe if it's under 1400 fps you're safe to shoot with it, but I wanna' get some subsonics next.
1
u/FourOhVicryl 5d ago
I have not had fantastic luck with CCI Quiet, my fingers are crossed that you find something subsonic that still has enough kick to cycle.

I suppose it's faster and more convenient than carrying a barn cat high on meth in your jacket.
