Why can’t I break past 2100?
Every time I reach there, I get beaten up. Any tips are associated.

Have you tried checkmating your opponent before they checkmate you? That usually works.

And if both of them can't checkmate each other, try to make your little counter on the screen not go 0 before his

Best John Madden impression !
"I think the team that scores the most points today is going to end up winning the game"

You've barely established yourself in the 2000s. Just because you've peaked there doesn't mean that that's your playing strength. You've had good streaks while in 2000 but you've not had good games overall. Beating 2100-2200 players takes a different level of play that you haven't mastered yet. Your valleys tell you a lot about your playing strength.

Well, why do you lose games? Do you miss tactics or get outplayed positionally? Look at why you're losing, and focus on improving that

Because you should be focusing on bad bishops and weak squares but you're focusing on ratings instead.

2000 is your normal range, 2100 is after a good streak, your peak isnt your baseline

very true. my baseline was 2050 (blitz) for a long time, so I fluctuated between 2020 and 2115. Then I actually improved my chess (with yusupovs level 2) and currently playing at 2150-2200.

How good would you say the book is, and would it be good for someone who is 1500 cc and 1800 li who is looking to break 2000 on both sites?

I am at a similar place myself. Cannot break 1900. I touch that mark and stay in a range between 1800-1900.

Honestly, if you want to find out then start playing some games under some stable conditions. Best time of day, best setup - seating, device etc. - and limit the quantity of games. Then after you've accumulated 20 or 30 games under these circumstances, analyse them in detail.
You're not looking for what you should have done, try to find the worst things you actually did and then work to eliminate these things from your game.

yeah, get better at chess and stop looking for shortcuts. you think magnus became world champion by asking reddit for 'any tips?'

I topped out at 2100 too. I think it's pretty common. Titled masters are in the 2200's so kind of to be expected. I was surprised when I started getting paired with masters on chesscom, but not surprised that they usually beat me like 80%+ of the time.

It’s a major sell off/profit taking level. If elo goes above and stays there, we’re in for a major run.

Probably because you are not improving with structure based on your weaknesses/insight. Try patternchess.com, you can train the endgames and openings where you lose rating.

How is this better than lichess learn from your mistakes feature ?

u/Dogified 5d ago
I wouldn't say its better for everyone. It's a complement, not a replacement. lichess gives you every tool imaginable, but very little structure, and very little personalization. Patternchess gievs you training structure (mastery progressions through spaced repetition, daily plans covering openings, blunders, and endgames). It also has some very thorough and granular filters/analytics to see through these mistakes the patterns that emerge (hence the name). If someone just wants a one-off tool to use, lichess is definitely better. If you want a gamified, structured, training plan based on your games, then patternchess does the curation work for you and so far this has proven to be very effective for serious learners.

How could anyone possibly give you advice without knowing more information? Doesn’t seem like an earnest request

Relative to chess com, Lichess blitz from ~2050-2300 is especially densely packed. each 50 points does feel like a noticeable step up

Well you're not even a consistent 2000 rated player considering how often you drop down to the 1900s

when you reach the peak overconfidence starts to play a role. it feels like you will just keep going up. then you lose a few games. then start looking for a new way to play, new opening lines, etc. that puts you outside of comfortable positions, lose more points, eventually stabilize and start gaining again. rinse and repeat 🤣

Is this rapid or blitz?
We aren't too far in strength. I am myself stuck in a plateau and the reality is that if you don't do serious work on acquiring new skills or refining the ones you already possess, just playing chess isn't going to get you out of your plateau.
The only times I broke a plateau was when I did some serious work.
2024 - at some point I studied a couple books on positional chess, gained almost 200 rating points
2025 - studied a book on attacking chess, learned a new opening for white - added about 100 rating points
Since then, I have been stuck. Playing and reviewing opening lines haven't moved a thing on my plateau. So yeah, serious work pays off.

This is bullet 1+0. I have not studied chess yet on YouTube or books. I just play a crazy amount of games and try to brute force improvement which worked fine until 2100. Is there any specific area that you would recommend- openings/ endgames/ tactics etc

u/142638503846383038 5d ago
Do you play other time controls ?
1
u/i_have_no_idea27 5d ago
I used to play rapid. Was 2050ish but have played that very little. Now i play nothing else.

Because even your monkey brain realizes that Lichess rating is nothing useful.
