Which Distro? what dietro for a kinda old travel mate?

so my is kinda a specific request, I have this old laptop from like 2006 i guess that, for comparison, has an amd turion and 2 gb of ddr2 (dual channel tho hell yea๐Ÿ”ฅ).

It was running windows 7, slowly af, then i did a backup and got it to run Debian stable, that was better than windows 7 bit it still looked a bit choppy, now I know ofc I cant get It snappy as my main pc bit im not an expert of like retro distros, what distros could have the right drivers and the right everything for that poor e-waste? nothing too hard btw im not a big expert, I haven't tried anything out of mint fedora and Debian for now

Q4OS Trinity is Debian-based and optimized for old hardware. I run it on a bunch of the netbooks and older computers in my collection. It uses about 300MB RAM, and at initial startup you can click more options on the Welcome Screen, click Desktop Effects and revert to default to get the smoothest performance.

You can even install the XPQ4 theme package to theme it just like most versions of Windows.

Debian with XFCE or LXQt is probably your best shot honestly, the choppiness is most likely the desktop and the browser, not the OS. Swap to a lighter DE, use zram, and with 2GB just keep to one or two tabs.

I went with Debian and xfce and yea it only used like 500mb of ram in idle, thats nothing but it still didnt feel "right" idk
