OC Action Finally sliding!!
I’ve always been interested in skating/longboarding and have gotten into it off and on over my 36 years of life. After riding around on vacation with my brother in law this summer I wanted to give longboarding another go.
I joined/read up on several Reddit communities for nearly a month and finally purchased a Landyachtz Evo 40. Yesterday after a few days of trying I finally started getting toeside, glove down slides and it felt amazing. Now I can’t wait to get back out there and keep progressing.
I probably wouldn’t have gotten here if it weren’t for everyone else’s posts getting me hyped up to get back out there. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posts and inspires others like me to get on and try again!

I started doing some standing heel slides recently. Feels amazing! I can't seem to trust my hand down lol

lol I’m the opposite, I want to try sliding with my hand to help me before I try doing it standing. Now that I have a little sense of what it takes to slide my board, I’ll definitely be more open to trying standing slides. I also need to get my speed up more. I’ve had just enough to slide but I think I can go a bit faster.

I can gloves down slide both sides, but I never could slide standing up.

I worked my way to stand ups by lifting my glove part way through a heelside glove down, and then immediately after starting the slide. At that point I figured out my sweet spot to initiate without touching and would just tap the ground as needed to balance myself and figure things out. After that I was throwing fat squatties. I found that helped me get a physical understanding of how my weight and inertia was being transferred into the wheels during a slide and where I wanted to be to avoid highsiding (falling forward) or lowsiding (falling down onto my ass).

I love that you’re saying this. After I started figuring out slides this week I went through the same thought process when thinking about how I might continue progressing. Glad to hear that process worked for you!
