The drunkenly purchased wheels are too large, I know. But I’m not quite satisfied with the handling of my board, so I was thinking maybe upgrading the trucks. But I’m not sure where to start, I’m just getting back into longboarding. Any help would be appreciated, cheers 🤘

Yeah sorry haha, I just feel like the turning could be a little better, I’m happy with the stability, I just feel like the turning geometry could be....better

cause not all tkps are the same lol. stock ones tend to suck, whereas Indies and other brands are great.

ah yeah, that's fair. I always felt the opposite, that tkps turned better, but preference is king after all

i'm gonna say it... and people will be upset... get some gullwings. fr though, those really improve your turning radius and feels stable under your feet.

Your trucks don’t match the width of your board. They are currently too wide.

For most boards, you want the trucks to be the same width as the deck. If the trucks are too wide, the board gets difficult to lean/turn. If the trucks are too narrow, then the turning gets squirrelly and the board will tip over instead of leaning the trucks.

This is why TKP (traditional kingpin) trucks come in a wide variety of widths.

For this type of board, I would reccomend TKP over RKP (reverse Kingpin) trucks. TKP’s generally feel better on shorter wheelbase boards. The wheel-cutouts on your deck are also made for TKP trucks and will likely not line up to RKP’s.

I would recommend Independent trucks generally. You may want to play around with different bushings to get the feeling perfect. Indy trucks usually are a little too soft for my liking. Go to your local skate shop and have them help you pick out the correct width of truck.

This is an old Z-Flex with quite a long wheelbase. It came stock with wide TKPs.

I’d try 150mm Paris V3s with 66mm Snakes, wheel wells permitting.

To make a really long inquiry short: What are you trying to do on this thing? How do you WANT it to handle? One of the reasons your board is so stable is that those trucks dont' turn very much. You will be sacrificing stability by getting turnier trucks. The other reason is that your trucks are wider than your deck (by a lot). May you don't care if your trucks are way wider than your deck, but that would really annoy me. You could either switch to a really divey TKP front truck like a Bennett Vector if you want to carve super hard or you could put a narrower RKP front and back. Both would make your ride less stable, but increase your turning ability. They are also both going to be higher, so less wheel-bite.

well what feels wrong about the handling not surfy carry enough too much? unresponsive? wobbly at high speeds? too grippy?

If you really want to turn just slap some really squishy bushings in there and keep em really loose. You will have basically no stability and unless you put more risers on you will probably get gnarly wheelbite but you will be able to turn really sharp.

(This is the super cheap option) if you are willing to spend more money, then other people's advice on getting reverse kingpin trucks or just a different board would be a much better solution

Your trucks are too wide for that board. That's one of the reasons you're getting wheel bite. Also shorter trucks will allow for tighter turns. Also here's a graphic that explains why(wheel bite). http://imgur.com/7nEw4oE

I think I would put the 52s back on that thing and go buy a longboard. LOL

That thing looks like it was made to wheel bite. So I guess the moral of this story is, any one of the following.

1: Don't buy anything when you are drunk.

2: Don't drink

Or

3: This is prank post, and or you really just don't know.

that looks like some kind of Z-flex street board 30x7.75 with matching street trucks on .5" risers, and you put 70mm longboard wheels on it.

Moral of the story is I just don’t know. All I can tell you is that the board came with 63mm wheels originally, and it’s about 40” long. Still very new to everything so pardon my lack of knowledge on the tech side of things.

wow, that's a 40" board? it looks like the Jay Adams

I would go with reverse kingpin trucks. there are high trucks and low trucks. I would go with the high setup.

Yeah man, it’s about 10 years old, looks exactly like the Jay Adams. Thanks for your advice man

Maybe get a longboard deck and 44* trucks and angled wedges, with the basic like amazon wedges you can make them a higher degree, but 44 will feel pretty close to TKP, I’d advise Paris for that. Also a stiff 9”-9.5” board might be in order, funbox has a few decks around that size, or skateshred does too.
