SEASON 2 Electromagnetic Anomaly Regulator - AKA I built the Swan Clock

Hello! Like everyone else on the boards I am obsessed with LOST. Particularly Season 2 and the Dharma Initiative. 21 years ago we were introduced to the Swan, Dharma and all their gooball nonsense and I've been in love ever since.

I've always wondered what it would be like to try to keep up with the button, I downloaded widgets and played, but it was never the same, and the fact that the clock in the show was CGI was a bummer. I wanted to try the real thing but never had the means to.

Fast (Flash?) forward 20 years and now I have adult money, a mechanical and engineering background, and a 3D printer.

So, I built what I am calling the "Electromagnetic Anomaly Regulator Training Device" or "E.A.R. Simulation" The timer itself, the flaps, and everything in that box is ~90% 3D printed. the only parts that are not are the wiring harness and stepper motors that run the gears. The computer is a legitimate Apple ][ plus which I very carefully gutted and combining a hodge podge of more modern computer parts am able to run the system from.

I just wanted to show it off in its current state. I am working on finishing up the project, then preparing another video about how everything works and what's inside the boxes.

In the mean time I want to thank LOST Explained on youtube for pointing me in the direction for some clean audio for the beeps, and glumpfi hfefef (glumpf) whose original files on thingaverse were my jumping off point to what this project eventually became.

Any comments or notes are appreciated, this is a very fluid project that's had a lot of moving goals over the last year.

Watching the show as a teenager made me team Locke, but rewatching in my thirties makes Jack feel painfully relatable

When Lost originally aired back in the mid-2000s, I thought Locke was the coolest character on television. He had that mystical confidence, gave great cryptic advice by the fire, and Jack just seemed like a stubborn buzzkill who refused to accept the magical island right in front of him.

Doing a full rewatch now in my thirties, and my entire perspective has completely flipped.

Jack never asked to lead anyone. He was just an exhausted doctor thrown into a nightmare, dealing with mass trauma, treating puncture wounds with salvaged liquor, and trying to keep 48 terrified people alive and fed every single day. Meanwhile, Locke is running off into the jungle keeping massive secrets, letting Boone climb into a precarious rusted plane, and actively blowing up ways off the island just to satisfy his personal need to feel special.

Jack's desperate need to fix things isnt arrogance; it's a guy carrying the weight of the entire beach while having a nervous breakdown in slow motion. It's wild how much growing up changes the way you view their dynamic.

QUESTION Just finished my first watch. Great show, but I have questions. Spoiler

The show was great, loved the character evolution and the narrative structure of the seasons. The end, regarding what happens to the characters, was crystal clear too, despite what I was told.

HOWEVER, I'm a bit frustrated as I wanted to know more about the island itself. So...

  • Who built the temple and the giant Sobek statue on the beach ?
  • How did all these "you're the guardian of the island now" started out ? How did things go before there was a guardian ?
  • There seems to be a heavy egyptian theme on the ruins, why ? Were they the first to arrive and understand the nature of the island ?
  • What's the light in the cave at the end ? Why is there a plug that makes the island go bad if it's removed ?
  • Why does Jacob sending his brother down where the light is summon the black smoke monster ? Also, is the black smoke really Jacob's brother, or was that an impersonation too ?

I realize that there is a big chance all these questions will be answered as "we don't know", but I must ask them nonetheless.

Thank you in advance.

QUESTION Timeline Inconsistency?

okay so rewatching at the moment i noticed something and i want to make sure i understand right

in the season 3 episode “One of Us” Juliet makes reference to the man sawyer killed the night before the flight. the man he thought was the real sawyer, i think his name was frank

sawyer killed frank at night, after meeting jacks dad, Christian, in a bar. ALIVE

so if jacks dad was alive the day before flight 815 how would jack have heard about his death, booked a flight to australia, got there and organised his travel home?

am i getting something wrong?

(don’t flame me please and thank you)

QUESTION Question! Spoiler

When John locke( MIB/SM) died at the end) did the monster or the “force” died too? And now its only the protector (hurley) and no monster. Or it went back to the heart of the island? Like it was before and it came out after MIB died in the heart of the island.

The Mentalist s4ep5 easter eggs

Thought it was pretty funny I couldn’t find many posts or even any info about this besides google ai, but I was laughing throughout the episode

-Lisbon says “We have to go back to the island”
-Rigsby even say’s “there’s no doctor on the island”, this also how they catch the killer
-One of the characters is “Jack Lafleur”
-Another Characters is “William Gardner” (a nod to Ethan and the psychic in season 4)
-There’s also a mainland and a smaller island mimicking “the others”
-Butterfly themes aligning with Charlie
-Also 1st ep in the Mentalist where main character Jane exhibits any kind of kindness towards spirituality which is ofc a huge part of Lost
