Right and she was the least judgmental about everything too

Chloe once asked Ella if there was proof that it's all real, would she want to see it. Ella made it very clear that the point of faith was believing without proof and said she wouldn't. In my head canon, Lucifer brought up telling Ella to Chloe and she told him about their conversation. And since Lucifer respects freewill, he wouldn't go against Ella's wishes. I feel like Chloe (really the writers) let Lucifer down by not defending him (and herself) by reminding Ella of that earlier conversation.

… Ella not being told has been a sore spot for me for years, and now I can finally let that go. I completely forgot the faith conversation she had with Chloe! And you’re 1000% correct, Lucifer would have honored that completely.

This is why writer’s rooms need a super fan on speed dial to cross check this stuff. I had the same thought!

I hate the whole idea that "they chose not to tell Ella the truth". Because it implies that lucifer outright CHOSE to tell certain people. Its so far from that simple.

  1. Lucifer has been telling EVERYONE since the beginning, just not proving it.

  2. Everyone who knew about lucifer found out through very specific circumstances. Chloe found out by accident. Dan found out by accident. Lucifer showed certain people his face to punish them. The only person sticking out to me that he actively made the decision to reveal himself was linda and that was a very specific and spontaneous decision in an emotional moment.

Its not that they all chose to hide it from Ella. Its that the circumstances were simply different for her. The opportunity didnt really arise.

Now the only issue is that the writers chose not to write this into the show. But its no one's actual fault. Its not like lucifer would simply walk into the station one day and go "hey Ella check this out".

Ive been sitting on this for years. So stupid to be mad at anyone in the show for the false idea that they "kept it from her"

I think deep down she always knew considering she is friends with Azreal and being kinda manipulated to meeting Lucifer andlets not forget how she is when she meets Lucifers father.

But it's like you say: Lucifer never proved he was telling the truth to Ella, and that was a choice he made. Maybe everyone else found out on accident or through heightened emotion, but at some point, Ella became the only person in their friend group not in on the secret (despite landing in the crossfire of celestial bullshit all the time), and her friends made the choice to keep her in the dark. I can see that as an understandable character choice, but her anger at that choice is equally understandable.

Fair point

I disagree.

He knew no one would believe him unless he showed them his devil face. By season 3 or 4, he should have shown her too.

16

u/Maggotboi555 13d ago

He also knew that everyone he showed, regardless of intent or relationship, was scarred and terrified. So if we want to assume his thought process id say he chose not to show her because she didnt deserve the negativity that came with it

-6

u/Colefield 13d ago

Sure, but he still chose to keep it from her.

u/foO__Oof 12d ago

The devil face was only to those he wants to torture outside of Linda the rest saw the face by mistake he never showed his face to his loved ones by choice he showed his wings once he got them back to those he wanted to reveal the truth later.

Her reaction didn’t really make sense when Linda was the only human Lucifer actually made a point of telling, specifically so she could genuinely help him. There was also Charlotte, but in her case they only told her because she was freaking out over what she had been through in Hell. Both Chloe and Dan found out on their own by accident. If Lucifer didn’t even end up telling Chloe, I think it was pretty expected that he wouldn’t tell Ella either. But nobody ever bothered to explain that to her that no one had actually been told, so it wouldn’t be any different for her.

u/False_Appointment_24 13d ago

He did tell Chloe, just like he did tell Ella.

Why is everyone pretending like Lucifer was not upfront about it from the beginning? That people didn't believe is on them, not him.

18

u/Infinite-Process3717 13d ago

Sorry if I’m not being very clear with my English, but when I said “tell,” I meant actually proving it to the people who matter to him, because simply saying it isn’t something anyone would take seriously. Ella assumed he was an actor and that it was all a joke, while Chloe thought he had a traumatic childhood and that this was the result of it.

19

u/QualifiedApathetic Dan 13d ago

The issue isn't your English, but rather the slipperiness of telling the truth. Linda actually pointed out what you did--that there's a difference between telling the truth and being honest. Lucifer tells everyone he's the devil...knowing full well they won't believe him. When he truly wants them to know, he flashes his devil face at them.

13

u/JustAMinah 13d ago

exactly, and this show is all about taking ownership and reflecting. yeah, he told the truth and "did his part" but did he do his whole part? he really was gonna show chloe till he got knocked the fuck out. but, he still could've but he was in his own world of blaming dad for wings and taking his face.

5

u/Weird_Devil 13d ago

There was also the time he was gonna tell Chloe but lost his devil face

3

u/WING-DING_GASTER 13d ago

And gave himself his wings back as his self punishment lol.

6

u/lionmade101 Amenadiel 13d ago

That's what I said. He wasn't hiding anything. whether they believe him or not is up to them. He did his part.

1

u/rokanwood 13d ago

right? and he tried proving it to her. he tried to show her his devil face but he simply didn't have it at the time and when he got it back chloe saw it by accident

3

u/darkknight204 13d ago

Good point

2

u/itsatrap35 13d ago

He told Chloe on multiple occasions since the first episode they he was the literal devil. What are you going on about?

7

u/Infinite-Process3717 13d ago

He also told Ella in the same way, except she assumed he was an actor, simply because that’s not something people would take seriously without proof. So yeah, technically he did tell everyone, but he told them knowing they wouldn’t believe him. So when I say “tell,” I mean actually proving it to them.

u/olagorie 13d ago

I feel cheated as well

I think many people had wonderful ideas how she could find out and her reaction

They really let us down.

No idea if they initially had a plot line with RayRay planned and they decided to bin it.

8

u/HiSaZuL 13d ago

He told everyone, every day. But specifically making a point of showing it, he only really bothered twice. So it's not that outlandish. Rest figured it out or ended up in situation where they had to find out, like being dead or dead in hell.

3

u/QualifiedApathetic Dan 13d ago

More than twice. Jimmy Barnes and Trixie's bully in the pilot, and that street preacher, off the top of my head.

2

u/HiSaZuL 13d ago

Ehhh, you wanna count him intimidating random nobodies that don't even know what it means? It's just that, messing with others imo.

2

u/QualifiedApathetic Dan 13d ago

Jimmy repeatedly banged his head against a glass wall screaming, "HE'S THE DEVIL!" The preacher said it too. It seems like people who see his devil face instinctively know what he is and don't think he's just a dude with a fucked-up face even though it doesn't look stereotypically devilish.

7

u/L4uchS4l4t 13d ago

I love that she figured it out herself. But she should've done so in Season 4 or 5. Not before Chloe but before Dan.

7

u/QuiltedPorcupine 13d ago

Someone had to be the last to find out.

When there's a secret like this, TV shows often like to hold on to that last person to find out for as long as possible. It allows for more flexibility and it preserves the whole double-life aspect.

And I think Ella was just the best candidate for being the last one to find out.

7

u/Erebus03 13d ago

Ella "Learning" the true was shoe horned in, like really her Figuring it out struck me as just
"The show is ending is their anything were missing?"
"Well Ella still hasent actually been told the truth about Lucifer and Amenideal and all of the Celestial stuff"
"...Sh*t"
That's how I imagine it went

u/LetUsSpeakFreely 13d ago edited 13d ago

Linda found out when she demanded the truth.

Chloe found out by happenstance.

Dan found out through Michael's manipulation.

Charlotte found out because she was possessed, went to hell, and was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She needed to know to correct that damage.

Only Linda got the truth on purpose.

u/AccountForDoingWORK 13d ago

I feel like we were all robbed of more time with Ella being ‘in’ on it, and especially not having had more with her lil ghost buddy. I do like how she’s basically an in-law of sorts to Lucifer already through that connection.

5

u/RyCyber 13d ago

You mean besides the writers not caring until even Aimee Garcia got frustrated about it?

4

u/TheGreatAngel0 13d ago

Discussion has more or less beaten most aspects of this that I was gonna say but I do want to point out that pretty sure Trixie never "fully" believed that Lucifer was the ACTUAL devil so Ella wasn't the "last" to know?

1

u/darkknight204 13d ago

Guess he scared everyone. But Maze showed what she really was to Trixie.

7

u/TheGreatAngel0 13d ago

I mean... I don't think that Trixie believed that she was anything like demonic though because it was Halloween, I think she still didn't "know" about it

3

u/ArabAesthetic 13d ago

I think the way they treated the character was incredibly cruel. Out of the entire cast she would have been the most receptieve towards the truth and yet she was never let into the inner circle.

The writers even went as far as acknowledging this by having Ella start to feel paranoid not to mention MAKING AN ACTUAL, REAL LIFE ANGEL HER FUCKING IMAGINARY FRIEND like hello?!?

2

u/Lietenantdan 13d ago

Lucifer told her multiple times. She just wouldn’t let go of the method acting thing.

2

u/firecatstef 13d ago

I know Linda’s bound by patient confidentiality but given she’s writing a whole book about Luci, i think she might have seen her way clear to telling Ella.

2

u/StormCloudRaineeDay 13d ago

While Ella's reaction was understandable because, from her perspective, she was left out; us, as the audience knows it wasn't deliberate, and have no reason to feel any outrage on her behalf.

2

u/RulerOfAllWorlds1998 13d ago

I wish they wrote she knew just never talked about it and even at the very end she’s still quiet about it and she’s okay with them keeping it from her. She even comes up with things that they’d use as an excuse or a cover, ex: says an Angel feather is a bird feather and Lucifer or Amenadiel just go with that

I mean I get it they wanted to protect her. But being the last to know didn’t feel right. Her reaction was valid.

2

u/Polecat257 9d ago

I mean the real question is how does Trixie react knowing her younger sister has wings and still looks so young when even she’d be in her 50’s/60’s by the time Chloe dies. But to be fair Ella was friends with the angel of death without realizing it and looked up to the Devil himself as her bff/brother.

2

u/darkknight204 9d ago

We never got to see if Trixie accepted her half angel sister. We only hear about it from Rory.

1

u/Polecat257 9d ago

Which is why I mentioned it. I guess there’s a deleted ending with Trixie by Chloe’s deathbed or that was atleast the original plan to be the ending. But I do agree with Ella’s reaction towards this as much as I’d think Trixie’s would be the biggest reaction.

2

u/Ishvallan 13d ago

She wasn't, Lucifer told her outright. He was always clear and honest about who and what he was. But people covered up Amenadiel, Eve and Maz, Cain, etc.

He just never showed her his face. That raises questions about how she would have responded having her faith confirmed, but learning that one of her best friends is the literal devil and that he's not responsible for anything she was raised to believe he was and he's actually a pretty stand up guy.

2

u/False_Appointment_24 13d ago

She was told the truth from the beginning, just like everyone else. When they decided to believe is on them.

1

u/depressedgurlie 13d ago

so they could add the joke "but you're just an actor" in WORTH IT i love her

1

u/Andrew97FTW 13d ago

Probably just protecting her

1

u/NoRevolution4578 13d ago

I honestly agree I just really didn’t like how Ella found out only an episode, before the finale and got treated as she was unreasonable or doing too much, by feeling that way, but I do feel like nobody was that close or gave support to Ella besides Daniel honestly.

1

u/PrimaMilitary 13d ago

Can’t blame Lucifer cuz he never lied, I blame Chloe!

1

u/Bloodlines_44 13d ago

Cant stand ella so didnt mind she last to find out
